The Republic of Rary is a titanic, efficient nation, ruled by Darragh Martin with an even hand, and notable for its barren, inhospitable landscape, otherworldly petting zoo, and sprawling nuclear power plants. The hard-nosed, hard-working, humorless population of 15.709 billion Rarians have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

The large, corrupt government is primarily concerned with Defense, although Industry, Law & Order, and Administration are also considered important, while International Aid and Spirituality receive no funds. It meets to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Alesco. The average income tax rate is 97.7%.

The frighteningly efficient Rarian economy, worth a remarkable 5,697 trillion euros a year, is broadly diversified and mostly comprised of black market activity, especially in Information Technology, Arms Manufacturing, Uranium Mining, and Furniture Restoration. State-owned companies are reasonably common. Average income is an amazing 362,714 euros, and distributed extremely evenly, with little difference between the richest and poorest citizens.

The government seizes corporate assets it deems 'scary enough', diplomacy is a foreign concept to Rarians, nerdy teenagers have to prove that they're made of the same stuff as their grandparents, and class action lawsuits have gone up in smoke thanks to government interference. Crime, especially youth-related, is totally unknown, thanks to a well-funded police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Rary's national animal is the Turtle, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to heavy metals seepage into national waterways, and its national religion is Atheism.

Rary is ranked 330,918^th in the world and 915^th in Europe for Most Compassionate Citizens, scoring 8.8 on the Kitten Softness Rating.
