Just had a major increase in intelligence within Cudoocadaa from the last few issues. Kids are using pills to increase their intelligence (We Support TransHumanism Here). Older kids are being trained and tested to handle younger siblings when alone with them. The nation has converted to metric system for accurate measurements. |
General transhumanism is a main course of our society with many factions being the activist and interest groups trying to influence our official political system. Main branches are logically followers of augmentation vs followers of geno-enhancements. Bio-conservatism, conservationism and ludditism are very unpopular thoughts and proponents of these ideas are quite often bullied in society. |
Our society is quite the opposite. Although there's no laws against transhumanist research and it's unlikely that an ethics board would reject a transhumanist research proposal, the general culture of scientific research in ES is adverse to transhumanist ideas with much more focus placed on theoretical and material science. The general sanctity of the human body you were given at birth, with the exception of extreme cases of genetic defects and injury, is almost always upheld. Of course, the people of ES have no ill will towards those who pursue transhumanist ideas, bio-conservatism is simply traditional in ES culture. |
Also based. In other news, I just decided that all politicians have to have information about their donors and business ties available to the public at all times. Authoritarianism went up and civil/political rights went down. I can't believe this game thinks politicians are people. (Nevermind that as an ancap society Violan has no politicians.) |
Hmm transparency in government means increased authoritarianism. Something doesn't track here |
Max Barry's/the general Nationstate community's (or those who make issues, anyway) warped liberalism often creates just such warped reactions to issues. I've learned to just roll with the punches by this point and dismiss issues that I know are screwy. |
Or you know, just ignore the stats |
I do use NS stats. I do not agree with outcomes of certain issues (like now when decentralized taxation [delegated to many local administration units] reduces scientific advancement - uhm.... WHAT?!), but overall I use them because 1. it's simple and somehow competing element and working metric in this game (one of few), 2. I get that issues resolve subjective matter and therefore its outcomes has to be also subjective depending on the writer/writers wits and expectations so after we quickly deconstructed this phenomenon the only issue is the objectivist/like-positivist scale statistics that no-more no-less represents just subjective data and expectations of issue outcomes that aggregate over time within your nation. Edit: but I still do like them nonetheless and despite all of setbacks and disappointments they've cost me. |
To further explain my mindset here: I often do not agree on what issue resolve I have to click on order to receive the stat boost that I desire. But as the time went I managed to build some form of duality... many times from the point of the RP view I use NS stats as a statistic and issue resolve that helped to me to achieve that is simply a mechanic that I do not involve in main RP and story of the nation. So I've sort of inverted the logic of not using NS stats, I do use them, but not using their story most of the time. Not that I do not have to read it right? Otherwise it would be chaotic selecting - I do, and after a while you can simply deduce which outcome gives you what (like Keynesian economic policy reducing taxation, increasing market freedom and somehow boosting economy in the same time which is even in peer-viewed economic theory highly doubtful phenomenon and assumption). As the time went I did accepted some parts of their narrative though... as I started playing I was building this nation as a free-market minarchist research state with political system of classical liberal democracy but this combination I've dreamed of back then didn't correspond with issues and their outcomes as well as I hoped. So after a while I become build nation that was actually like that I was mentioning only formally, but in the reality it was corrupted big government, corporativist, monopolies-supporting and theocratical system. Nation that articulates some values as virtues but is politically and economically unable to produce them. Nation that has both - elements of Utopia and Dystopia combined. (Dystopia often involves totalitarian regimes, while this is more like autocratic regime with oligarchy theme masking itself to be of religious nature type of mandate and legitimacy to rule [unlike totalitarian regimes - autocratic regimes do not try to control you or your freedom and choices up to point when you don't existentially threaten system's legitimacy to rule). TL;DR - I'm using NS stats but not necessarily their narrative contained in resolving issues. I used to play according to my values, now I'm playing half utopian and other half is rather dystopian theme. |
I have a somewhat similar mindset. I tried playing as my actual values years ago and found it's nearly impossible and that it's much more fun to play a character or caricature. For |
