That's because there wasn't really any competition this year. Two monolithic factions stood out, with no equal to fight against.

Last year was far more competitive, and therefore more fun. There was about six or seven major factions, none particularly more powerful than the others. So it was total chaos, and nobody could have guessed what the outcome would be.

It showed that a huge number of nations on one team can crush everyone if there isn't a large enough team to oppose them and they are even slightly organized. It also showed an interesting exploit where a group of nations could join the winning team and stock up on nukes before breaking off and earning a bunch of points on their own.

The event probably needs some reworking.
