From my Dossier: “The Commonwealth of Fosteriaskew is a colossal, efficient nation, ruled by Marko Dylan with an even hand, and remarkable for its museums and concert halls, public floggings, and ubiquitous missile silos. The compassionate, devout population of 4.976 billion Fosteriaskewans have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and look forward to their next free and open election, to be held on an as-yet unannounced date. The medium-sized government juggles the competing demands of Education, Industry, and Defense. It meets to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Fosteriaskew City. The average income tax rate is 49.6%, but much higher for the wealthy. The powerhouse Fosteriaskewian economy, worth 434 trillion Fosteriaskew Dollars a year, is quite specialized and led by the Tourism industry, with significant contributions from Book Publishing, Information Technology, and Retail. Average income is 87,386 Fosteriaskew Dollars, and distributed extremely evenly, with little difference between the richest and poorest citizens. Farm turkeys are given high doses of antidepressants to take their minds off the holiday season, politicians tend to favor bombastic speeches and kissing babies now that they've been banned from social media, judges are all-powerful, and pet loving officers arrest citizens who don't give their dogs enough biscuits. Crime, especially youth-related, is totally unknown, thanks to a capable police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Fosteriaskew's national animal is the Harpy Eagle, which soars majestically through the nation's famously clear skies, and its national religion is Roman Catholicism. Fosteriaskew is ranked 113,330th in the world and 826th in the West Pacific for Most Advanced Law Enforcement, scoring 2,233.64 on the Orwell Orderliness Index.” |
