Guard units are a little too squishy for my taste. I wouldn't mind running Traitor Guardsmen tho as a side detachment, if they would actually get pulled out of Legends.

I ran a decent contingent of traitor guard in my EC force. With Accursed cultists. They were pretty dependable. My biggest issue is that a "true to form" aesthetic for traitor guar should have access to IG vehicles, which the CSM codex obvi doesnt allow.

That would be crazy fun to model and kitbash too.

Supposedly for 10th they added a rule to where I could run them with CK in a similar fashion to how CSM get them, though I generally play 9th so that doesn't help me, and they still don't get vehicles.

I came back right at the cusp of 9th and when 10th dropped. Was playing with my brother and the heavy rule set of 9th was a bit hard to follow through for us (without arguing lol). But some guys at the game store insisted that 9th was a much better ruleset for thematic games- which i love more than anything.

But 10th was much easier to pick up and go, relatively speaking.

10th looks a little dumbed down to me, so I was thinking of trying Horus Heresy 2nd Edition

Horus Heresy would be lit. My only issue has, and will always be, needing to shell out maad ducket$ for new factions to play. If I could just pick a faction without worrying about that... White Scars or Iron hands would be dope. Maybe even Raven Guard? Idk... for some reason, im quite keen on loyalists lately.

I would take Knights and probably either Solar Auxilia, Night Lords, or Iron Warriors, or World Eaters

HH World eater color scheme would go hard in the paint. Night lords will always be top tier- but i think the "grace" of HH is lost on them. Just my opinion. They rock the 40k aesthetic but for HH, World eaters or some other legions who fell harder would be fun to model/paint.

Now that you're making me think of HH, Thousand Sons just after the Rubric, would be kinda wild to put down on a table.

Aesthetic is way better than post-heresy even.

It kinda sucks, Volk... we likely won't live long enough nor have the opportunity to become Astartes... Sad life.
