Hello Forestians! I'm Garbelia, and I would like to present my campaign for this upcoming Winter term. For anyone who hasn't seen me around, I've been a part of Forest since early 2021, and fairly consistently involved in the government for a while, including running the Greenness Index and List of Exceptionally Green Nations since October of that year and one previous term as Forest Keeper in the 2022/23 Winter Term. The principles behind my campaign for this year are around maintaining Forestian RMB culture, some administrative organisation and keeping a low barrier to entry in the government.
Internal Affairs: |
Forest Arboretum My most recent campaign's primary proposal was the  Forest Arboretum nation, a central repository containing reference to all historical dispatches. I was able to partially bring this to fruition as Deputy Forest Keeper, however the project is still only in its infancy. If elected, I will be looking for one cabinet member, well-versed in Forestian History, who would find and curate many of Forest's important dispatches that were missed on the first sweep. Before the end of Zerphen's term, I was in the process of finding and sorting every historical amendment to the Forest Constitution. This will continue, alongside the collection of old research projects (such as 2021s Forest Cultural Heritage Register) and ongoing maintenance. |
Forest Style Guide Directory Some readers of the Arboretum dispatches may also notice that they mention a Forest Style Guide Directory. This was a planned project to collect all advise concerning the Forest 'look', such as the symbols, colours and fonts, alongside templates and updated designs to create a uniformity in new Forestian dispatches, all taking on the same iconic Forest header and footer to clearly mark official Forest dispatches from documents such as this campaign. |
Foreign Affairs: |
Embassy Policy Forest has formed several new embassies recently, with Valaryia, Lands End, Ridgefield and Sol Aeternalis. Many of these were actively sought out by the Forestian government. This is a departure from Forest's historical isolationist approach to embassies and my Diplomacy Branch would seek to build upon and strengthen these relations, rather than continue to overextend our stretched ambassador program. As a result of this, I would not be trying to seek out new embassies, nor will I campaign on the promise of opening any. Any valid requests will of course be considered, however with more regions than ever meeting our requirements, some requests may be vetoed, such as those from newer frontiers with notably informal RMBs and a lack of environmental focus. |
Closures Over time, Forest has accumulated several embassies that no longer meet our requirements. Early in the term, I would hold closure polls for Singapore, Winterfell, Antarctic Oasis, A Liberal Haven and Union of Free Nations. These polls would take a total of 15 days and be held consecutively. Clearing almost inactive embassies allows the Minister of Foreign Affairs to find ambassadors and form closer ties with embassies, so I believe this continuous period, whilst not ideal, will benefit the region in more ways than simply shortening the embassy list. I have omitted Eladen, Haiku and Hippy Haven, as I think they continue to provide either Historical or Cultural value as embassies through the age of the embassies or the region's RMBs, however under Article 6.6 of the Constitution, any Forestian would be free to request closure polls for these regions too. |
Events: |
N/Z-Days N-Day is rapidly approaching, and will take place a short time after this election ends, therefore unless there is significant opposition, then Forest will continue to loosely be a part of JEFF for this event, in a similar manner to recent iterations. I am currently Forest's delegate to the JEFF High Command, and would remain in this position. The Apocalyptic Coordinator would be responsible for relaying orders onto the RMB and discord for the duration of N-Day, and would be expected to play an active role in the event. Prior to Z-Day, the Apocalyptic Coordinator would be responsible for polling the region on the intended strategy, and then devising and communicating orders for the duration of the event. |
Legacy Events The Photo Contest will continue with its 10th anniversary and to celebrate this milestone, I would like to organise, following the event, a further contest of every winner of the Trees category. Ideally, the Trivia will also be continuing throughout this term - I would like to maintain and continue many of the events newer to the region on an annual cycle, and introduce some newer ones to evenly populate the calendar. |
New Events I will be delegating this section to the Events Branch, however I would encourage them to provide Forestians an opportunity to participate in events, whilst not demanding any activity from those who prefer a slower community style. Another of Forest's strengths is the low barrier to entry in regional government or organisation, and throughout my administration, all Forestian citizens would be encouraged to pursue any ideas for events they may hold and would receive assistance from the government in bringing those ideas to fruition. |
Communication: |
Discord My personal interpretation of the Forestian Discord is that it is, and should remain, solely for idle chatter that would be considered spammy on the RMB, and government moderation discussions, and this is a sentiment that has been expressed fairly regularly in conversations about preserving the nature of Forest's RMB and the discussion on it. Under this interpretation, I fail to see the purpose of the 'Serious Discussion' channel, which both anecdotally and functionally seems to act solely to split political or regional discussion, drawing it away from the RMB. I propose the archiving (closing to new messages) of this channel, as any messages which take place there would be better served either moving onto the RMB or the casual discussion channel. I see the discord as inferior to onsite communication and would encourage all longer form conversation, either on government-glade or serious-discussion to move onto the RMB, the preferred place for discussion of any matters at length. |
RMB The RMB will be managed by another of the new positions in the proposed cabinet - the Forest Warden. I believe that given the region's transition into a Stronghold, and the security that comes with it, the job of Forest Ranger has shifted significantly, but still has some importance, therefore the Forest Warden will be in charge of upholding the Posting Culture listed in our WFE. This does not necessarily mean simply suppressing spam, but additionally orienting good-faith nations who primarily post short, one-liner messages towards our discord, or encouraging them to follow this culture more closely. |
Transparency I would like to ensure that the government is as transparent as possible in all its plans and actions, and any decisions are as democratic as possible. Therefore each month, the Forest Warden will be responsible for compiling a Forest Transparency Report, outlining all internal communication throughout that month, and releasing it as a dispatch, added to a collection on the Forest Arboretum. |
Summary of the Proposed Cabinet | |
Forest Keeper/Statistician (me!) | If elected I would serve as your Forest Keeper, alongside remaining the Statistician and representative to the JEFF High Command. |
Deputy Forest Keeper | A trusted member of Forest, likely the runner up in this election. They would have a voice in all notable decisions, and of course be responsible for the government if anything happened to me. |
Foreign Affairs Branch | Fairly self-explanatory, responsible for overseeing all diplomacy, embassy requests etc. |
Events Branch | Also a known quantity in Forestian government, organising governmental events and helping any Forestians with their own event ideas. |
Wise Elder | An experienced Forestian responsible for maintaining the World Factbook Entry and being a voice in any major decisions. |
Arborist | The arborist has existed in the Forestian government before, being the name for the Statistician in Verdant Haven and Chan Island's governments. In this return it would instead refer to the Arboretum Maintainer, responsible for collecting any significant Forestian dispatches or submissions, and categorising them within the Arboretum dispatches. There would also be some element of Historian to the role, as they would be expected to transfer any out of date historical records to the Arboretum and continue maintaining them. |
Apocalyptic Coordinator | A temporary role, dismissed following Z-Day in early November. Responsible for coordinating strategy in both of the sitewide apocalypses. Depending on interest, they may be combined with the Events Minister. |
Cartographer | As ever, continuing to update the Forest Map. |
Forest Warden | Another new role, similar to the Forest Ranger, but more focused on upholding RMB culture than border control, and more involved in guiding discussion. |
