I don't believe you have to, no. You're only part of the event if you join one of the factions. So when it starts just stay neutral and you'll be fine.

Though if you do decide to join, don't worry, after the event it's all cleared up, so your nation isn't actually destroyed forever.

Me when canceling plans for N-Day:
I say I just really like the clicking, but really it's because none of my nations got my preferred type the time I played, and I wasted a lot because of it.

I gave up on attacking because it was easier to pay full price than it was to have the missiles go to waste. At the end of the day, 0 radiation is great, so I can't complain.

That was Rivierenland, and it's my personal belief that the list has aged terribly. Everyone on the list who Riv named ended up being a significant and interesting European character, and the list served no useful purpose in the end.

In fact, the only nation on the list that ended up being justified was Euro liberland, but otherwise none of the names on that list had any justification to them.

N-Day technically begins at 11 PM PST Saturday, but for all practical purposes it begins on Sunday.
