***** Texas March Madness Announcement *****

Texas, March Madness is upon us! Texas, and guests from our friends and allies, we have a new game in town. It is an old and familiar game to most and Texas is proud to offer it again for the sixth time and the first time since 2019. It is March Madness 2024 NCAA Bracket Picking! And, best of all (to some), there is absolutely NO WAGERING! This is just going to be good clean fun for bragging rights. It is just for fun and not for profit. And speaking of those bragging rights, Furry felines of Texas currently holds them as Winner of the 2019 tournaments!

We have updated the web pages we used last year. It is located here:
http://texasregion.net/brackets/

Like Texas Chat, participation is open to all Texans, friends of Texans and all our allies as well. The more the merrier! Please use your nation name when you Create Bracket!

WooHootie, there are no Texas Teams at the moment! Go Texas teams!

Note: Brackets Are Open! Sign-up and bracket picking will end just before the tip-off of the first game on Thursday, March 21, 2024. If we get nobody, we will reopen it, maybe.

Want to know why Democrats should not be allowed to even suggest nominees for the US Supreme Court? Here's why:

"Your view has the First Amendment hamstringing the federal government in significant ways in the most important time periods. The government actually has a duty to take steps to protect the citizens of this country... by encouraging or even pressuring platforms to take down harmful information."

Put in a bracket! Also, you have the south and west regions in the wrong place for the final four. Might want to adjust that.

Dagnabbit IE! You are exactly right. Let us see what we can do. What a mess! Thank you for pointing that out and for submitting a bracket. Three Texans are duking it out. Sorry Gig 'Em, we are suspect of TAMU taking it all!

Brackets are now closed.

I wouldn't know where to start with a bracket, so I never fill one out. I finally got things squared away with Tech support for the pharmacy website. I was using the wrong e-mail address, but the site never told me that. It appeared to log me in, then simply said there was an error. Never told me my username/password was incorrect.

A last second three pointer saved us so we could fall 95-100 but what a game. I now lower my bracket into the ground and bury it 6 feet under.

Results

After the week has concluded, I shall release the answers to the previous week's questions in the same dispatch.

There will also be explanations as to how you could have reached the answers, in case anyone is interested

Alongside this, there shall be a two leaderboards compiled. One weekly leaderboard and one overall leaderboard.

Prizes!

The person(s) who get the most correct answers each week will share the "prize pot" equally which shall be equal to 20.00 DV

At the end of each month, the person at the top of the overall leaderboard shall receive a legendary!

The person who is at the top of the overall leaderboard at the end of the term, shall receive a grand prize of 5 legendaries!

Helpful Tips

If you don't know the answer, just have a guess! There's no harm in having an educated guess, you might just be right!

Watch out for a word question! If the clues seem so random that you just can't find a connection, it could be that it's a word question! The words themselves could be the connection!

If you aren't sure about the answer to the question, when you're submitting them, try to explain your thinking to me! If your thinking is correct but you don't quite get the answer, you'll get half of a point. They all count in the long run!

Take your time! There's no rush... You have a week to answer the questions so you have plenty of time to think and trivialise!

And most importantly...

Have fun!

Unrelated to anything, but everytime I see your name I get excited that I could at some point see a Jaguarundi (assuming they come back...ever) if I ever go back to Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge. I almost had study animals there but couldn't find any during my surveys a few years ago.

O Boy-o! Yummy Tacos 4 Texas! Are you ready for some Saturday Breakfast, still All-Fresh? Bring out the Drones! The NewTexas Happy Taco Stands, in conjunction with the NewTexas Incendiary Corporation, has approximately 1 trillion of the fastest, lightest drones you have ever seen. This fleet is specially designed to deliver tacos to every man, woman, child, whatever, in Texas, all 2,297,243,000,000 of you.

For your dining pleasure, today's special breakfast will Saturday Ham & Egg & Cheese Tacos [COVID-19 Week CCI Edition]! This is your delicious morning wake-up call Texas! We have been baking hams all night so we can dice them up for this delectable ham and egg taco! 100% Texas-born and bred piggies plus Grade AA jumbo, free-range, farm-fresh, brown eggs, scrambled to perfection, equals breakfast taco heaven. The super-juicy ham is flash-fried to give it just a hint of browning on the flat top right before they are gently scrambled into the fluffy eggs. These two simple, expertly prepared ingredients are hand-rolled in a hot, fresh flour tortilla made on the premises multiple times daily. That is all you need right there, but we will spice it up to include the Make It Holler kit, a cup of freshly roasted green chilis you can add to your taco. And, ham just screams for cheese as do eggs, so we are including a cup of Texas' own Longhorn Jack cheese to boot. For a little fun, there is a special red cup of Habanero Jack if you really want to holler.

Today's Special Salsa is a Texas Two-Fer - Chile Quemado - our fiery roasted salsa made from tomatoes, onions, garlic, and jalapeños roasted fresh on the grill. Additionally, we will include another red cup of - Sweet Mango Habanero Salsa - roasted tomatoes, bell peppers, habanero peppers, jalapeño peppers, mango, and a touch of cilantro and lime juice, only to be tried by the exceptionally brave. The tacos are hermetically sealed in a Stay-Warm® pouch that is wrapped in the same ol' aluminum foil we are all so familiar with for our breakfast taco. The Juice Bar will not be possible this week. But, for your beverage needs, a packet of Sanka, Tang and a Lipton Tea bag will be included with every delivery as well as salt and pepper and a napkin. ***** Texas March Madness Update *****

With all the bracket busting in the second and third rounds of March Madness, the Texas March Madness winner has been decided despite the unfortunate error in the Final Four listings. NewTexas is curently untouchable with 51 points. Indian Empire, currently in third with 44 points, has a path to second with an Illinois loss and an Alabama win. Gig em Aggies, currently in second with 47 points, can secure second simply with an Illinois win. Thank you IE and Gig 'Em for playing on such short notice. It was all for you.

Despite all the busted brackets, there are still a couple of #1 seeds alive in the form of UConn and Purdue. And the one non-Top 8-rated team left is #11 North Carolina State. Good luck to all playing at home. Out of the 22 million bracket peeps posted on ESPN, none are perfect anymore. We hope you did better.

Question 1 -

What is the connection between these four seemingly random clues?

- Brezhnev

- Andropov

- Gorbachev

- Medvedev

Answer 1 -

- Answer = They are all former USSR/Russian leaders.

- I am aware that Medvedev was in fact a leader after the USSR fell whereas the other 3 were pre-USSR. That was a slight mistake on my part there so I apologise (thanks to Verdant Haven for pointing that out)

- Other Accepted Answers = anything along the lines of the above answer

- Will NOT accept = They are all Russian or They all end in "V"

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Question 2 -
What is the connection between these four seemingly random clues?
- Armourers
- Legends
- Headlights
- Kneeling
Answer 2 -
- Answer = They all have human body parts at the start of the word.
- Armourers
- Legends
- Headlights
- Kneeling
- Other Accepted Answers = N/A
- Will NOT accept = They are all related to medieval Knights
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Question 3 -

What would come 4th in this sequence?

- Laura

- Michelle

- Melania

- ?

Answer 3 -

- Answer = Jill

- Explanation = They are all the first names of the last four US first ladies. So we have -

- Laura Bush
- Michelle Obama
- Melania Trump
- Jill Biden

- Will NOT accept = Practically everything else, lol

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Question 4 -
What would come 4th in this sequence?
- Earth
- Wind
- Fire
- ?
Answer 4 -
- Answer = Water
- Explanation = They are the four elements of life... Enough said really. Some people were asking why it was that I used "wind" instead of "air" which is entirely valid. I have heard both used but I decided to go with wind for this since that is the most commonly used that I've heard. Apologies for any confusion on this one...
- Other Accepted Answers = September, the great song by Earth, Wind and Fire... Well done on the two people who recognised that... I will also accept "air" due to what I've mentioned above...
- Will NOT accept = I think everyone got this so well done!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Question 5; DOUBLE POINTS! -

- Skateboarding

- Speed Climbing

- Surfing

- Skateboarding (Tokyo 2020)
- Speed Climbing (Tokyo 2020)
- Surfing (Tokyo 2020)
- Breaking (Paris 2024)

- Other Accepted Answers = Karate as that was also introduced in 2020. Either answer is acceptable really...

- Will NOT accept = Swimming... It may look like they are in alphabetical order which a lot of people went for but unfortunately Squash would disrupt that sequence. I genuinely thought I had messed up and put two answers in there so thanks to all those who gave me a mini heart-attack, hehe...

Have fun!
