Resignations
Three cabinet secretaries resigned today in protest at the proposed government budget. Secretary Arcadian Soulakis of Education, Secretary Aegius Marzantinos of Technology and Secretary Polina Tzinos of Climate Mitigation resigned following the announcements by the Department of the Treasury stating that their budgets were being slashed while the Defense and Aerospace budgets were being increased each by over 5%. The rather historic increases in the two has raised concerns that Archon Galanis is caving to the more conservative members of her coalition in their demands to up defense spending in light of the Leviathan Missions being run by the Commonwealth.

Leviathan is a series of missions to take place over the next five years where the Commonwealth Space Program (CSP) is planning to land a manned presence on Sorana as well as establish a planetary base of operations and an orbital launch station. The Empire’s aerospace program has been seen to be relatively stagnant since the 2060s when it joined the VA, critics claim the VA despite its vast resources has been too cautious in regards to space exploration and calls for a more aggressive research base program has been proposed.

Archon Lydia Galanis has seen her popularity in the polls sag to their lowest point since she took office five years ago, they rest at just 45% of the public approving of or giving the benefit of the doubt to the Archon while a large 46% of the remaining respondents disapproved partially or entirely with the direction of the Empire. This year’s elections to the Synedrio (legislature) will prove critical as to whether the remaining five years of Archon Galanis’ term are with a majority or an opposition controlled legislature.

Starstruck Prince
Prince Alexandros, the astronaut prince, has announced his engagement to fellow astronaut Natalie Angelis, the daughter of the current Fleet Admiral of the Empire. Prince Alexandros and Natalie Angelis have known one another since they each attended the University of Mydare as well as Aerospace Academy in Egia. Most recently the pair were both aboard Home Two when the Prince became the first member of the Imperial Family to enter Apollo orbit as well as the first to leave Vesta orbit. The last member of the Imperial family to go to space was Prince Nicophorus in the 1970s, the paternal uncle to the reigning Basileus Leto.

The Palace confirmed the engagement had the blessing of the entire Imperial Household as well as the enthusiastic support of Basileus Leto. The wedding is expected to be held at the Salt Palace in three months time with what will likely be one of the most high profile and star studded weddings in recent memory.

Imperial Support
Ever since the ascension of Leto III as Basileus of the Mydic Empire, he has managed to drastically alter the public perception of the Imperial Household as a national institution. This has also allowed the rehabilitation of the rest of the nobility in the eyes of the public as entities to rally behind in times of crisis and find support as ceremonial and guiding figures in a way. This general softening of the image of what is essentially a hold out of an autocratic system surprised many as other semi-monarchist states transformed into republics in those years.

Basileus Leto has been able to avoid any major scandals for himself but also for the entirety of the Imperial Household which has been a welcome departure from the scandals that plagued his family while he was growing up as well as the entirety of the 1900s when questionable marriages and some very public disputes played out in the tabloids.

The Great War (2017 - 2023) was during the final years of Basileus Isidorus I’s reign and while the family contributed as best they could to the war effort, ultimately it was their close business ties and relations with the Union that would sour public opinion and when in 2028 Isidorus died and Leto ascended it was his first act as Basileus to divest from the Union. This proved to be an immensely invaluable asset come the Egian War (2042 - 2044) where the Union and the Empire fought a one on one battle for control of the Egian Archipelago. Imperial members publicly and almost fanatically in favor of the Empire that several members even volunteered in the military or with the war effort.

This has allowed some to note that the popularity of the Imperial Family is hovering in the mid 75% range as of late and with the recent wedding announcement that number is expected to climb higher. A stark contrast to the current government ratings received by Archon Galanis. Though it is that the Imperial Household is non-partisan and ceremonial in nature, it has seemingly won over the public during the last half century.

Silence fills the air today as it is National No Sound Day. This funny little holiday was made by Emperor Balt after a bad case of migraine clusters. It got so bad that he declared an executive order bringing National No Sound Day to the forefront. You are able to ignore pretty much whomever you'd like to (except for law enforcement and emergency crews) for an entire day. It is quite peaceful so most Franconians use this whacky holiday as a day of meditation due to the sounds of the rainforest around us. You are not required to work if scheduled on this holiday, so most stores usually shut down and don't respond or reopen to customers until a full 24 hours has passed. This will most likely be the only FENN broadcast for today so let's give you some more news...

Painfully Dim Future

ChipCo Electric released a line of light bulbs that you can dim from your smart device or wearable. The light settings are bright, electric, soft, and "painfully dim". The name for the dim lighting is because it reminds you of old fluorescent light from the early 2000s, but it is a smart LED light shaped like a CFL bulb. These bulbs are particularly cheap, just 6.99 Astrons for a pack of 4. ChipCo Electric says they will be selling these as well as 16 other series of lights. Will these be the future of lighting, or will profits turn out "painfully dim"?

Up, up, and Away

A satellite is being built to help the VA detect if there are any oncoming asteroids or falling space debris. The ESA (Emperial Space Agency) said that this will be the first of its kind warning system for the FE and is being built with help from ChipCo, who seems to want to dabble is space tech as well as partner with ESA. The ESA has agreed to let people view the building process via live stream on their website and is asking other VA nations to join in on cleaning up the low orbit of Vesta. We don't need another Telecommunications satellite to impact us.

In the north of Khaledonia in a small town controlled by the FK, a marijuana plantation has been discovered, this has already happened with other towns controlled by the FK, the green light has been given to burn the plantations, apart from the fact that this shows that the FK is resorting to drug trafficking.

Kiwi, the FE's biggest seller in smartphones, has successfully tested a prototype for a hover vehicle. The test lasted 33 minutes, only 5 minutes more than what was originally planned. The maximum lift from the ground was 7 feet. In speed tests, the air propulsion system was able to let the vehicle travel at 55 miles per hour, 25 more than expected. Kiwi says these EVAPs (Electric Vehicle Air Propulsion type) will at least take 15 years to fully test out the technology and for it to be declared safe for public use.

The Tech Boom has made an overabundance of technology goods at ports. Minister of Trade, Jarvey Luurvis, has said that he is open to trade negotiations to export some of the excess technology, most being smartphones, tablet, wearables, and Electric Vehicles.

FENN News has been making a mistake on a certain campaign year. We have been stating the the election year for the upcoming campaign is 2077. We have learned about this typo and changed it. The 2076 Federal Campaign is right around the corner and campaign managers are buzzing. Only 3 people have pre started their campaigns, but 2 Commoners Party Candidates are headed for the forefront. Wayne Cage-Casey has promised the continuation of the construction of Cohousing neighborhoods and agrees that nuclear energy is the savior of the FE. He is proposing 2 plants to maintain stability of the Empire's increased electricity use and is saying he wants to propose an energy deal with a nation, but hasn't said what nation he has chosen yet. "We want to help this nation. They are trying but aren't giving their full potential, and I feel like they want a boost." He is Pro-VA and so far has the most favorability.
The second, NEW candidate is Hildiiga Fjölden. She, too, is a Pro-VA and believes the VA should be sharing the grid. Hildiiga says she needs to help the Empire launch forward into the 2100s with zero carbon emissions. She wants the FE to be Net Zero Carbon by 2092. Hildiiga believes technology is the new future of the Empire. "So many new goods and products are flying off the shelves in the Empire. More funding in telecommunications, the ESA, and Education will help our increase in understanding to better the new advanced technologies on the 3rd quarter of the 21st century. "It's the second half of the 2070s. ANYTHING is possible!"

The FE has a new optimistic view on where the future is going and it shows in the candidates. Both admit they want to declare climate emergency for the frequent heat waves that occure in the summer. Less humidity and more heat has been shown on data tables in the last 10 years. Most Franconians think it is a natural reoccurring thing due to the same thing happening in the 1930s, but these candidates say it's climate change. The LFP is declining in popularity and will most likely be a "second place party" in the upcoming Parliamentary Elections in March.

The FE is expanding the trade market today as Khaledonia is now desiring Franconian technology. The Minister of Trade, Jarvey Luurvis, has accepted the request and is happy to start branching out in other opportunities. The electronics boom is making it feel like we have more devices than what we need. These new phones and tablets are nothing like Franconians have ever built. With 5 different companies competing for the top spot, anything is possibe. The FE would be trading smartphones, tablet tech, EVs, and wearables. This is truly a marvelous day for both nations. The first shipment of new phones will load up on February 15th. Due to the rocky, unstable nature of Khaledonian politics, the FE will be on high alert to withdraw from the deal if anything goes awry.

The CEOs of Simsam, Kiwi, Macrohard, and ChipCo opened the Franconian Stock Market today. Investors seem very optimistic about the Tech Boom. ChipCo opened at 100 Astrons per share, up 23% from yesterday. Kiwi opened at 67 Astrons per share, only down by 3 cents, but is expected to make a huge turnaround after launching their K-Phone Gen 6 today. Macrohard is up 89 Astrons today for a total of 320 Astrons per share. Macrohard is releasing 3 laptops today in competition with Kiwi's K-Phone G6. Simsam, a new competitor in the boom, has just put their names on the market. Simsam sells tablets and phones, but is expanding quickly in the home appliance market. Simsam is also launching 2 devices today, both appliances. A new oven with be revealed today and a self cleaning SmartFridge.

The tech boom is making excellent work for tye Empire. Simsam and Kiwi announced they are hiring in production factories. No work experience is required and you must be 20 or older to apply. Starting pay is 76 Astrons per hour for both companies.
