Eh I just think we need to be careful so that the government doesn't restrict civil rights
Every. single. time. i. criticize. Islam. this. happens.
Firstly, I should note that I have read the Qur'an and Hadith multiple times. I have academically studied theology and religious history enough to the point where I am able to make an academic conclusion. This being said- how can one call themselves a feminist, or supportive of LGBTQ+ persons, or minority and civil rights, and simultaneously support the [political or core] institution of Islam, when it is used as a weapon instead of as a bridge of peace, when it is used to oppress instead of liberate? The same goes for Christianity too. It's not just the interpretations and politicizations of the religion that bothers me- Islam, from its very beginning, has been about being better than everyone else- the Prophet Muhammad was expelled from Mecca for insulting everyone else's religion, it has been a religion by men for men, that advocates for the killings of apostates, and a foundation on jihad and death. The idea that God is good in Islam too is largely gone, which I believe is a consequence of the Mongols massacring millions, and the survivors believing that no good God would allow such an atrocity, thus leading to a religion that advocates for peace and brotherhood for those within and punishment for those who do not conform, and oppression for those without the historical power- Islam is thus the ultimate "authright" religion. You cannot tell me that a religion which requires circumcision on babies is good. You cannot convince me that Sharia law (literally as laid forth by the Qur'an, not by Islamic governments), is not oppressive. And then there is the hijab- now, I am not a female Muslim, so I do not have personal experience, but that along with all the other ways Islam gives the short straw to women? I do believe I am justified in my statement that it, the core religion and its politicization, is cringe.
Now, before a bunch of people get upset at me for this post, I note the following: -Every person has the right to choose their faith or lack thereof and I refuse to discriminate for such. Because doing that is cringe. -I speak of the religion, not of the people, nor of the culture that is not directly a consequence of the religion. -If anyone dares call me an Islamophobe for this a) you're wrong, I'm not afraid of Muslims, b) I have read the Qur'an and Hadith to better understand the subject matter, and c), you better also call me Anti-Semitic, and Christophobic while you're at it since I criticize those religions too- hell, my band is literally called Jezebel.
