The hard-nosed, cynical, humorless population of 30.644 billion Nemphesisians are ruled by a mostly-benevolent dictator, who grants the populace the freedom to live their own lives but watches carefully for anyone to slip up.

The government — a sprawling, bureaucracy-choked, corrupt, well-organized morass — is dominated by the Department of Defense, with Administration, Healthcare, and International Aid also on the agenda, while Spirituality and Welfare receive no funds. It meets to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Amarth Tal. The average income tax rate is 83.1%, and even higher for the wealthy.

The Nemphesisian economy, worth a remarkable 1,630 trillion diamonds a year, is driven almost entirely by government activity. The industrial sector is solely comprised of the Uranium Mining industry. State-owned companies are reasonably common. Average income is 53,211 diamonds, and distributed extremely evenly, with little difference between the richest and poorest citizens.

Economists speak of trusting in the Tao of Free Market Capitalism, power to the people comes from the barrel of a gun, the right school tie opens more doors than the right qualification, and recognised healthcare professionals treat diabetes with a grain of sugar in a barrel of water. Crime, especially youth-related, is totally unknown, thanks to a capable police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Nemphesis's national animal is the dragon, which is also the nation's favorite main course.
