I continue to be amazed by this. How can words be considered so offensive that they must be banned from public life ? In the Netherlands and Luxembourg we have swear words and words referring to genitals and the act of procreation too, and some people think it's unbecoming to use them in decent company, but completely banning them is really against the freedom of speech imho.
In the League a comparison with the European Union was made the other day; as far as Nhoor is considered, there is no European Union as we are not on earth but other nations may have different views. Also the fact that none of the nations in TWI has reported any Covid-cases so far, could be an indication :) But as long as we don't mention this existential uncertainty we will be fine.
Agree with the first part. You'd limit what you say out of consideration or politeness to tohers On the second part; if you are aware of its existence, it probably does exist. And there's a really simple reason why we don't RP Coronavirus (Quarantine is fûcking boring!)
It allows us to have colonial nations? Check. It explains why colonial empires didn't return (or try) to retake their lost colonies? Check. It explains why neighboring nations have so drastically different cultures? Check. It allows us to explain why some nations have old histories while their neighbors have little history? Check. It allows nations with old-a$$ histories to explain what "ancient Indo-Europeans" are doing in the middle of the Pacific? Check.

Overview
The Gael Market Crash of the 80s was a regional economic crisis that involved an extreme value drop in the stock market of the majority of Gaels nations and large economic instability that occurred from the early 1980s all the way to the late 1995s in Gael involving mainly Aruias economic influence over Gaels market, which later would be nicknamed “The Aruian Fumble” a name adopted by both Anhelsen and Aruian economist of the time.
Historical Overview
1970s Through the entire 1970s, all economic trades were based on old treaties that were regulated by the Transgoverment Body: Association Gaeltic States (AGS) with the exclusion of some Gael states. In 1973 in order to regulate and push economic opportunities in Aruias favor the Aruian economic and finance body Gael Finances which own the Bank of Gael was secretly nationalized and seized by the ministry of commerce and finance under the Aruian Labor Party. These actions went unseen by the AGS due to the civil wars taking place in Orsandia and Balnik which receives heavy attention from the AGS with major nations such as Ostehaar that take direct involvement and with large economical and social investment in the civil wars in attempts to secure a regional and Ostehaars market stable. In 1974 Bank of Gael as a government-owned business made its first acquisition buying Bank Lidara in Aruia, a major bank that excels in loans and investments worth with existing branches in Dormill and Stiura, Ainslie, and Roendovar. From early 1975 Bank of Gael used Bank Lidara to hand large loans to companies affected by the civil wars outcome this will continue into early 1980 where government and public businesses will start to take part.
1980s in 1980 Ainslie government-owned business makes risky loans as well as the government of Ostehaar and Verdon, These actions were a large breach of the AGS treaties and were condemned by the Roendovar and The Stiuraian Republic and Roendavar. The severity of the breach of treaties continues when On January 1981 Anhelsen Prime Minister Joel Gisbourne pushes for deregulation and privation and in the process, Ainslie pulls out of the AGS between February 1981 to March 1981 Gael Finance begins to make hostile take over, over several banks across Gael that went under the radar of many governments seizing bank-owned properties in the process mainly in Ainslie, Roendavar and the Free City of Kapolder. Roendavar pulls out of the AGS due in light of it failing to act on its purposes. The hostile take over of Gael Finance along with the sense of regional instability that came with nations leaving the AGS led to shaking the stocks across Gael, causing a drop in the value of many bank assets owned by Bank of Gael banks and the general market value of the region. This along with the civil unrest in the region led a sudden investor drain in the Gael market and in Gael projects causing a plummet in the stock markets. The continuous loaning takes in Roendavar and the deregulation in Ainslie led Gael Finances to hold both nations market hostage which heavily burdened Roendavars government that was in the process of economic reforms and eventually ended in dragging the reforms too long and got Roendavaris out in the street to protest that escalated into riots. As a result of the market crash, on April 1981 the Gael regions’ unemployment was in an all-time low. Manufactures were unable to pay workers and products were to costly for families, the force and influence Gael Finances had over the Gaeltic market was strong enough to allow Gael Finances to flood the regional market with cheap labor from Athara magarat and with cheap Magarti goods. The flood of foreign cheap goods led to a loss in many local manufactures which started a regional recession period. In 1982 the AGS only hosted Doraltic states and stated that it will no longer discuss regional Gael regional mattes. Forcing nations like Ostehaar along with local peacekeeping forces and be the only front line in many of the post-civil war nations in attempts to return geopolitical stability. The militaristic focus by Ostehaar led to its market suffering largely which led Ostehaars market good production to drop by 75% from its original place and have one of the lowest GDP out of the Gaeltic industrial states. in 1983 Aruia had a sudden positive spike in its market, businesses started to reopen and majority of business loans were paid off making the way for a fast recovery pattern that did not correspond with regional recovery which got the attention of several nations in Gael. On January 1984 Ainslies Prime Minister Joel Gisbourne has been ejected from office by the Judicial Council, due to his arbitrary deregulation acts, leading the next prime minister in office to focus on market recovery and change in economical agenda. on March 1984 Roendavar and Ostehaar released a joint economist investigation into the Bank of Gael leading it to suspicious involvement through Lennester Bank and Bank of Lidara. Ainslie pressured Aruia to allow its intelligence force to perform a complete investigation on both banks and the office of Bank of Gael in Ar'ksen city, the investigation was brought to a halt on May 1984 when the Aruian minister of Finance and Commerce was caught in the borders with Balnik in a failed attempt to flee the country. Leading to him being held suspicious and in house arrest until the first reports of the investigation.
So background info on how Magarati goods and cheap labor came to dominate Gael market to cause recession in Gael.
Immediately after the Imperial War, Athara Magarat was divided into 12 hangates (born out of 12 Free Powers occupation zones). These were basically puppet states. Their hangs were seen as weak and since other Magarati leaders were either dead in war, executed post-war or arrested; the fringe communist leaders suddenly became the face of Magarati nationalism. The communist support rapidly grew like wildfire from one hangate to another. Add to this, the hangates were technically forbidden form having armies (I mean, no one wanted to rearm the Magaratis yet) and they lost any engagements with the communists.
So, the Free Powers and the hangates themselves encouraged Magarati companies to provide jobs (post-war rebuilding and whatnot) and "ideologically" combat the "Red Menace". The favorable policies from both the hangates and the Free Powers allowed the Magarati companies to grow big.
At the same time, people of Magarati-descent across the Isles (who I assume were obviously in not!concentration camps during the Imperial War) were encouraged to return back to their "motherland". At the same time, the hangates competed with each other (they all might hate communists does not mean they are all allies) and needed more manpower. Several campaigns were carried out to encourage "birth rate" and "recover the population lost during the Imperial War" (some hangates even had state-arranged marriages...let's not talk about that here though). Suddenly, there was a large pop but not enough jobs. Especially in cities like Tapu Sahar that went from a fishing village no one gave a sh!t about to being one of the largest cities in the Isles. More industries were established to fulfill the job demand but Magarati companies, thanks to huge amount of manpower available, found plenty of cheap labor (and they even started exporting these cheap labor to their branches in other countries).
So, I guess, this is how Magarati companies flooded markets in Gael (and elsewhere?) with cheap goods and cheap labor technically being one of the reasons for the Gael Market Crash of the 80s.

The background on how they were able to produce cheap labor and goods is your to decide. Basically the Aruian government that controlled Gael Finances that owned Bank of Gael that at the time owned a large chunk of assets across Gael had enough power to flood all nations in Gael with cheap labor and cheap low quality goods. The question is how was it Magarati of all nations. I propose that it boiled down to an existing branch or influencing the presence from Bank of Gael outside of Gael maybe in Athara Magart and had enough influence to divert the flow labor into Gael.

Something I didn't know about Athara Magarat and something (somewhat) similar between us. While Aprosia never had a strong western style socialist movement, one that would scream workers' rights and all, the Aprosian socialist movement has basically dominated the leftist politics since its creation during 1910-1920.
I think we already would have had relations between us during the late 20th century due to leftist politics, but we could even have deep inter-party relations before the APF/NAM came to power in Aprosia?

Heya everyone! I'm Feria-Alkaline, Europe's former Home Secretary, and I'm proud to share with all of you an idea that's been bouncing around my head for a long time now: Feria's Interregional Writing Contest!
Let me first explain the premises of this competition. I'm looking for short stories only for this first (and hopefully not last, depending on how well it turns out) competition. Why? Well, partially because it's a good jumping-off point to later being able to judge more types of writing, such as poetry, and also because short stories are something we're all familiar with. NOTE - I know that in an earlier version of this contest, there were two "tracks" - European and Interregional. After losing the endorsement of Europe's Home Office, I've decided to consolidate both into a single track, so no more weird rules. For future contests, this may change; I'm currently eyeing Thaecia as a "home" track sponsor for the next contest.
The theme of this contest is Pandemic. Yes, I know, covid-19 sucks and we all have enough of it. But I don't want covid-19 pieces. Be creative with it! For example, perhaps the pandemic is a virus that turns people's hair into cotton candy, and your piece is a briefing on how, despite the fact that you have cotton candy hair, you should refrain from eating it since it'll increase your risk of diabetes. Don't take that idea, of course, but make your own. .
So I wrote my piece. Now what? Send it to Korsinia with a disclaimer at the beginning that it's for this writing contest. Ideally, a Google Document would be best, but any way that can be easily copied and pasted into a mega-document for judging is okay. .
Some basic rules:
Stick to the theme. If your submission has nothing to do with the theme, it will be disqualified.
Keep it PG-13 - remember, minors use this site too. If you wouldn't show your writing to your seven-year-old nephew, don't send it in here.
No word limit. That being said, don't submit an entire book to the competition. Keep it reasonable.
No plagiarism. Plagiarism results in automatic disqualification and possible bans from future competitions.
One submission per person. As much as we'd love to read fifteen stories from you... well, we don't have the time. Pick your best idea and nurture it instead.
Don't trash others. If you include other NationStates players in your story, make sure they consent to how they're portrayed.
Don't spoil it! You'll be sending your submissions in a telegram to Korsinia, who will blind them before passing them on to the judges. We ask that you don't tell others which submission is yours until the results of the competition are released - if we know who penned the pieces, bias might color the vote.

When's the closing date for submissions? Since the contest is officially rekicking off on June 8, 2020 (EDT), your submissions will be due by June 30, 2020, 11:59 PM EDT - EXTENDED DEADLINE! Unfortunately, we can't grant any extensions to the timeframe. Results should be released around July 6th, but they may come earlier or later, depending on the amount of entries we receive.
How will this be scored? The panel of judges (Novgorod-Pskov, Dizgovzy and myself) will each rate your entries on a 1-to-10 scale on five characteristics, which will be averaged out into one final score. If there is a tie, we'll vote on which piece we preferred.
The characteristics are:
Creativity: 30% (Again, cotton candy hair pandemic. Even the way you write can be creative!)
Engagement: 30% (Do I want to read THIS story to the end out of the pile I have, or will I pass? Are the characters interesting? Setting? Plot?)
Realism: 20% (I don't mean how realistic the pandemic or anything else is - I mean how realistic the characters and writing are. If the characters seem fake or fabricated, lower points; if they act like real people would, higher points.)
Succinctness: 10% (Make every word count! We're not here to read 15 pages of prose on ants if it's not useful. Chekhov's gun! Remember Hemingway's For sale: baby shoes, never worn.)
Voice: 10% (Is this something any random person could write, or is this uniquely yours?)

Octopus Argus is native to the subtropical to tropical waters of the southern parts of the subcontinent Argus and the surrounding islands. Its range extends from the coasts of Brulafi around the coasts of Martenyika and up the Eastern side of Argus back up to Enchanta. Its range also extends to around the islands of Mokov, San Javier, The aziran islands and many other small islands around Argus. It occurs in the intertidal zone and the shallow subtidal zone, down to depths of around 90 m (300 ft). It occurs over reefs and sandy seabeds, often hiding in crevices or under boulders and in empty mollusc shells.
Description
This is a small to medium-sized octopus with a maximum length of about 20 cm (8 in). The mantle is globular with a smooth surface. The head is slightly narrower than the mantle, the eyes are prominent and are surrounded by small granulations. The mantle opening is wide with a long funnel. The neck is constricted and the eight arms are two-thirds to three-quarters of the length of the rest of the animal. The second pair of arms is the shortest and the fourth pair is the longest. The hectocotylus of the male is on the right third arm, and the male also has enlarged suckers.
Ecology
This octopus feeds on crabs and small clams and is known to drill into gastropod shells to extract hermit crabs. The octopus is itself heavily preyed on by young sharks in the waters around Argus.
Breeding in this species takes place between autumn and spring. As with many other octopus species, the female selects a shelter and broods a batch of eggs. An invertebrate shell is usually chosen as a shelter; small individuals usually choose gastropod shells such as Zidona dufresnei, Odontocymbiola magellanica or Buccinanops cochlidium, clams such as Pitar rostratus or Amiantis purpurata or large barnacles in the genus Balanus. Medium-sized individuals favor shells of the oyster Ostrea puelchana, while the largest individuals create their own shelters from shell fragments and other materials. The oyster is the most favored shelter overall, with the majority of eggs being deposited inside the concave valve.
