But they made a map of your country, and people could put in claims for areas they wanted etc.

Though I made a very rushed invasion map waaaay back during the 4 Day War.

Maybe building up some border defenses would be a good idea.

I'd suggest building a large line of trenches on the border with large hills behind them on your side with fortifications on top of the hills so that tanks would become obsolete as the trenches would be too deep to cross.

Unlucky for us, most of the border region is flat, dry plains and deserts.

Doesn't mean I still can't scuttle the entire Canal Project if the border defenses get breached and they start to push into the Baratochin east.
