With the loss of the previous president, Katya Alecsandri, and the fragmentation of the senate, the political power of the Confederation of Independent Colonies has been left in the hands of the Heir to the Lawquane throne, a man named Richard Raleigh. However, after nearly thirteen assassination attempts, the Emperor/government agent has advocated the thrown, fled the country, and now the only figurehead left it the newly declared Eternal President Iakobos Bernadotte “the Dreaded”. Political opponents have already gone into hiding, and foreign agents stationed across the globe have cut themselves off from Bernadotte, choosing to side with Raleigh. However, it is unsure if this support will make any difference at all for the future of the nation...
A man, seemingly in his 20s, dashes through the hallways of the Presidential Block of the Republican Governmental Compound of Montarc. Dodging the mass of important looking men and women, he makes his way to the President’s Residential building. He wears the Dress uniform of a Montarcian 2nd Lieutenant, and a patch on his shoulder indicates that he is a part of the ‘Army Information Unit’, a unit for the sole purpose of collecting information about global events, (usually troop movements, declarations of war, etc etc) but today, he would find himself reporting to the President, who is about to be voted out of office, news from a land not so far away... As he bursts out the doors of the AIU building, to his right can be seen the Republican Congressional building, and to the left of that, facing towards Monvartarc, stands the medium-sized Presidential Building. Tucking a Manila folder under his arm, he dashed for the Presidential Building. Skidding past the Congressmen, bus-boys, and secretaries in front of him, he makes it after sprinting a solid 200 yards. Exhausted, he uses whatever possible to jog up the steps, and make his way into the building. “Can I help you?” A Secretary Says, looking him directly in the eyes. “Yes... the President Bovington I need to see him ASAP, and that this is major information.” He says, ready to jog away towards the President’s Office, a level above him. “Yes sir,” she presses a button on her headset, “A Army Officer wishes to see you, Mr. President.” After a long pause, “Very well, I’ll send him up.” She motions the Officer to make his way up. He jogs away, taking a right and heading up a fight of stairs. After weaving through corridors, he slows down in front of a door at the end of a hallway, a plaque reading, ‘Presidential Office’ is screwed onto the door. Straightening himself up, the Officer knocks on the door. “Come in.” A Old voice says. “So, your saying the Guyomartish Border fortifications are halfway done?” The President Says, looking at the Secretary of Defense. “Why, yes, to sum it up.” The Secretary of Defense, Maximillian Goodman (a 34 year old) says, as he turns around looking at the AIU Officer. “Why, from the looks of you this must be important, as such, I guess I shall make my way back to my office, have a good day Mr. President.” Maximillian spoke, standing from a chair, grabbing a suitcase, and leaving the room. “My boy, have a seat, you seem to have run a marathon. Is there anything you’d like to drink?” President Bovington Says, motioning to the now-unoccupied chair in front of him. “Thank you, Sir, and water would be just fine.” The AIU Officer Says, taking the chance to sit down, after laying the folder atop the President’s desk. “Very well,” Bovington says, pressing a button on a black box to the left, “Kelly? Can I get a cup of tea, as well as a glass and a pitcher of water for my guest here, thank you.” Bovington releases the button, then turns to the Officer, meanwhile grabbing some jellybeans out of a jar on his desk reference to the Americans. “Would you care for some?” Bovington says, turning the jar towards the AIU Officer. To which, the Officer shakes his head no, and the President sits the jar down where it was previously. Just then, a woman walks in holding the requested beverages, “Thank you.” The President says, as she sets them down and leaves. “What is is you would like to report?” The President asks, pouring the Officer a glass of cold water. “Mr. President,” he says, taking the water, “Recently, a previously undiscovered settlement, which apparently belonged to the Chudokens, has declared independence, here is a transcript of the message.” The President, while eating the jellybeans, reads the paper. The Officer drinks while waiting for Bovington’s response. After a while, the President sets the paper down and looks at the AIU Officer. “My boy, tell me your name?” The President said. “Edward Johnson, of the Montarcian AIU, number 233574, sir.” “I’ll see to it that you be put in for a promotion.” Bovington spoke, “You May go after you finish drinking.” —————————————— Later that day:
The President sits at his desk, several cameras appear to be facing toward him, a camera man counts “Three, Two,” He notions one, and the cameras begin to roll. “My fellow Montarcians, today I bring to you great news from abroad. As we’ve all heard of the authoritarian nation of Kyoki Chudoku, it has come to me today that information on a previously undiscovered settlement of theirs has declared independence from their oppressive overlords. To the nation, Sartinaynia, I say this: Montarc not only recognizes your independence, but wishes to help you maintain it. We wish to trade with you, as well as become closer. I do hope you share our same ideas, and if so, we humbly request that one of your representatives makes their way to Montarc, if not, we do wish to hear from you as to your response to this message, thank you Montarc, I am President Herald Bovington of the Second Republic of Montarc, wishing you all a very wonderful evening.” The cameras stop, and the room erupts in cheers...
