Urth is a modern day rp as well, but with a different community than Valsora. Additionally, it is more focused on planning things out in detail whereas Valsora is more spontaneous spur of the moment. Urth is also more structured and orderly, with a single solid canon you can fit into, whereas Valsora is more flexible and easily changed. Both are really awesome and unique in their own right, and choosing which one you prefer is very subjective. That said, you can totally be in both!

Which leads me to my other point - you’re never locked in. You can always leave a map, join a map, and be in multiple maps at the same time. The choice is entirely yours. You don’t even have to be in a map if your RP style is more independent.
