Nationific wrote:I really like elections. It's diplomacy at its best. Or political nonsense. Whatever you prefer. Well, my question is to all the candidates. What would be your stand in voting in resolutions where a strong regional divide exists(that is either the majority is for or they're against, like more than 60-70%)? Will you vote with the majority or against it? Why? And would you really like to retain your decision if you see most of the region voting to pass off a really trashy resolution(according to you)?

It's all up to the voters. Even if I really find it trashy, it's not my choice. And that would be voters on a discord poll rather than just percentage for or against in-game, as it encourages others to join the discord and prevents our vote being 1) late; and 2) subject to stomps.

In the event of a tie, I would abstain. Delegate abstentions would also be an option in the vote.

In the event that voting would unequivocally hurt our region, I would state why and abstain (something which voters could absolutely challenge). The only example I can find of that is if the resolution was about us or if voting at all would paint a target on our backs (i.e. voting when the vote is related to a controversy we're noticeably involved in).

That I am going to be open with the people as much as possible, and that I want to make the WA play a larger role in Thalassia.

Ahem:Time to promote my dispatch! Do you already have your mind set on voting for another candidate? Have you even bothered to look at my dispatch? If not, then take a look at the candidate with tons of experience in Thalassia, a lot great policies and promises that he will keep, and consider changing your vote.

Zentata for WA Delegate!

Who Am I?

Hello there fellow Thalassian! My name's Zentata, and I'm running to be WA delegate. But Zentata, you may be thinking, what have you done in NationStates so far? Alright, here we go: I've been in Thalassia since November.I'm a member of the Ministries of Information, Culture, and Foreign Affairs. As part of my job for information, I've written articles in the wave page=dispatch/id=1328895#1. In Foreign Affairs I'm the ambassador to The Leftist Assembly, I'm the deputy minister of culture and the map operator. This experience has given me a unique insight into this region's WA dynamics, and how to improve them. In terms of my personal life, I like pizza, and the color purple but not purple pizza, I like to collect things, especially stamps, and I hate doxxers, and I do not live in Antarctica.

My Position in Politics and What I'm Going to do as The WA Delegate in Thalassia

Here I'm going to talk about how I'm going to vote in the WA, and how I'm going to promote involvement relating to the WA. I believe in freedom. I believe in political freedom, civil freedom and, for the most part, economic freedom. To put it in a simpler way, I'm a personal leftist, but an economic centrist, who thinks that the state should help people become better and regulate the economy while promoting economic freedom to an extent (in short, the WA). I think that climate change is a real issue, and should take top priority in politics, and that ensuring the ability for people to live a good life is the purpose of the GA. That means that I support legislation that will make the world a better place. If the legislation is flawed, unneeded, or goes against freedom in a way that will make the world worse, then it will have my vote against. My votes in the SC will be based on whether the recipient deserves/needs the act. Now for what I'm going to do in Thalassia itself.

I think that the WA needs to take a bigger role in Thalassia. We vote, but do we care? I'm going to do numerous things related to the WA in Thalassia, and all these ideas revolve around growing participation in Thalassia, here they are:

-Endo Swapping Program, called Thalassiaendos. This will encourage more endo activity in the region by giving out rewards to those who endorse the most, and will also improve regional influence and security while we're all getting those nice endos.

-Posting about WA proposals, and increased discussion. I plan to post a message on the RMB when I vote, explaining why I voted the way I did, and why you should vote this way too. If you think I'm voting in error, feel free to convince me to change. I will also make efforts to increase debate/discussion about proposals. In short, I want to be open with what I'm doing, and so I'm going to share with you, what, and why.

-I'll also be active in the WA community. I believe that a WA delegate should be able to write and be an active force in the WA community, so you can be sure that I'll represent Thalassia on the WA stage by doing those things. I'll conduct myself with sincerity and decorum, and show the world that Thalassia is more then it seems (in a good way).

-I WON'T RESIGN. You have been promised stability before, and you were failed. I promise you stability, but I'm not a semi-retired tired nation, or someone who won't talk out disagreements, I'm a nation whose career is just beginning, who has gotten the experience I need to lead you well.

-I'll take suggestions. Do you want me to do something more, something else in my domain? Then I'll be open to suggestions, and be open with the people of Thalassia.

-Synergistic endorsement limit. Do you know what happens when you don't have an endorsement limit? You can get people really close in endorsements to you, so if you resign, your vice delegate/president is not the second most endo'ed person in the region! This happened when cormac stepped down, and I was the first in Thalassia for endorsements until the government took action. This cannot happen again. As such, I'll institute a limit of 5 endorsements below my vice-delegate. This will prevent instability in the region.

-I will investigate joining a legislative league. Without a doubt, a sure way to improve our relations and standing in the world is to join a league, or create one ourselves.

Some Closing Words

Citizens of Thalassia! If you want a WA delegate who will interact with the people, who will be open with the people, who will help and learn from the people, who will represent the people the way they should be, and Who Will Not Let Down the People of this glorious region, then vote for Zentata. I have been endorsed in this election by two previous prime ministers,Badivermeraed, and Arenado. Thank you for reading my dispatch!

Please telegram me if you have any questions/suggestions, or wish for me to add a policy. Semper Thalassia.

Currently (say in the last half a decade), major World Assembly significance in a UCR cannot come from voting power. It comes from cultivating an interest in the WA and authorship. We saw that with 10000 Islands, International Democratic Union, Antarctic Oasis, The Security Council, etc. Historically, those regions haven't been competitors in WA voting (with the small exception of 10KI, but that doesn't apply to modern, GCR-favored times). They have, however, created lots and lots of authors. We don't remember large blocs or high-endo regions as significant on the World Assembly. We can't compete with the GCRs in terms of voting power.

What we want is more authors coming out of and residing in Thalassia. The primary goal should be to cultivate interest in the WA, not try futilely to exert more power in the WA.

Thank you for the question!

Voters of Thalassia, I ran for President in February, knowing full well that whoever won, would keep Thalassia in good hands. Now, I doubt that judgment. Cormac did lead this community through its highs and lows, but he resigned as President, and Thalassia was once again in an insecure position.

I love this community and I make sure that unscheduled elections due to the resignation of our delegate don’t happen again.

Nationific wrote:*snip*

Thank you for the question, Nationific. I think for these types of resolutions we need a place for debate. I will vote with the majority, but if there is strong opposition, I may offer a debate to weigh both sides. As one of my proposals, I plan (with consolation with Moderation) to open a WA channel on the regional Discord to have a place to debate such resolutions/proposals. I may abstain if both sides have good reasoning. We will see!

Welcome to Thalassia!

Hello and welcome to the region of Thalassia, a seafaring bastion of freedom and democracy! We're so glad you've decided to join our community. This guide is for all new Thalassians, whether you are new to the game in general or just new to our region. Still have questions? Ask on the RMB/Discord or reach out to a member of our government!

Note: Some of the information in this dispatch may be out of date, but I try my best to keep it current! If you would like to suggest an edit or addition, please contact Sho.

Your First Steps

So you've just joined our region, you've answered your issues, and now you're not sure what to do next? Not a problem!

First things first... Have you blocked those pesky recruitment telegrams? If yes, perfect! Next question.

Now... Are you a member of the WA?

But Sho! Why should I join the WA? I'm glad you asked, theoretical other half of this conversation! Even though our citizens are not required to join the World Assembly or "WA", they should consider it because:

WA citizens have the right to vote on World Assembly legislation as well as participate in our regional referendums, run for a regional office, and to collect and give endorsements, which strengthen our region. And when you endorse our Delegate and Vice Delegate, you're giving our region more of a say on the world stage! You can also enroll in our endorsement program ThalassiEndos which encourages endorsement swapping, incentivized by prizes.

Obviously, to participate in this program, first you must be a member of the WA.

Next, you need to endorse the key 5. Our current Delegate, Zentata, and his Vice-Delegate, Ayeinc, ask that you not only prioritize endorsing them, but also the following nations: Owl archipelago, Arenado, and Sho. Though you are not required to, it’s important to consider for the security of our region! If you’re not endorsing these nations, you may be pinged periodically in The Vice-Delegate’s Mention as a reminder.

Finally, telegram Zentata and request to join “The Anchors”!

Now... Introduce yourself on Thalassia's RMB and become a part of our community. Consider Linkjoining our Discord. Request your spot on the map and start roleplaying. Perhaps write a factbook or two. NationStates is made richer by its users' imaginations! (back to top)

Thalassian Government

Roles of the Ministries

The Prime Minister oversees the Cabinet, comprised of four mandatory ministries (and any additional ones the incumbent Prime Minister may create for the term), which is appointed to assist with various regional programs and activities. Each ministry serves as an important cog in the machine that keeps this region running!

The mandatory ministries and their respective roles are:

  • Culture

The Ministry of Culture is in charge of planning, managing, and moderating community events and activity, ranging from games to cultural enrichment to roleplay. They also manage the map of Thalassia, a crucial tool to regional roleplay.

  • Foreign Affairs

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs handles diplomacy with other regions and organizations. Members of this ministry serve as ambassadors to our embassies and integrate themselves into their communities, looking for ways to strengthen our relationship, whether through official or casual means.

  • Information

The Ministry of Information ensures our citizens have access to important information and regional news. They oversee the integration of newcomers and maintain our regional newspaper. If you ever have a question, these are usually the people to ask- if they don't know, they'll point you to someone who should.

  • Security

The Ministry of Security oversees the moderation and safety of our community, as well as the collection and management of intelligence necessary to the Thalassian government. 'Nuff said.

This administration’s current additional ministries and their respective roles are:

  • Administrative Affairs

The Ministry of Administrative is a tool for the Prime Minister an his government to aid in advising and assisting the ministries in tasks that may be more cumbersome than their usual day to day duties. The Minister and Deputy of this non-staff Ministry are also tasked with the occasional community review to ensure the government is doing its best to serve the community.

  • Recruitment

The Ministry of Recruitment is a nation’s first introduction to Thalassia - people who participate in this ministry reach out to new nations to introduce and recruit them to our region.
