Presiding Magistrate Povne Gugxani murdered nine days ago

Oxnvuri, 4 tvkvmto / October 2075 | As was already speculated on social media in the last couple of days, Presiding Magistrate Povne Gugxani was shot dead in front of the offices of the People’s Council nine days ago. Magistrate for Domestic Affairs Voceni Bavtasassi has assumed the Presiding Magistracy in an acting capacity until such time as Her Imperial Majesty the Holy Empress will confirm a definitive successor.

Details on the murder on Gugxani are being confirmed only gradually. It took place in the hour before the death of His Imperial Majesty Holy Emperor Veixe I and the national police were already sealing off the area and preparing an investigation. Due to the imposition of the period of mourning however, all procedures and public life activities were suspended until today, with any perpetrators probably being long gone by now.

The situation has drawn criticism: some members of the House of the Empire, who allowed us to quote them without mentioning their names, are of the opinion that protocol surrounding events and activities of the Imperial Household shouldn’t put the entire nation on hold at random. One of the most important citizens of Majassa was murdered, but the investigation could not take place immediately because the Holy Emperor died.

“We would like to know if the People’s Council or the national police force asked the Palace for an exception in this situation”, one member was quoted saying anonymously; “If they didn’t, the delay is their own fault. In any case, urgent matters should be allowed to be dealt with even during a period of national mourning.”

The police are still speculating about the motive for the murder and also about the number of shooters involved. The People’s Council’s policies so far (the current government entered office last year) don’t seem to be controversional enough for such a violent expression of disapproval. As Povne Gugxani had friends in high places in the Union of Albany, the recent coup attempt in that country could be a factor to take into consideration.

Povne Gugxani leaves behind a wife and three children. He was 47 years old.

Leemm's Health Report

President Leemm was seen by his doctors after images of the usually perky and well-rounded President Leemm have him look an off pale color. Doctor Huerna Joot'rinsin has completed a checkup on President Leemm and says he has low blood pressure. The Doctor has also said he has Type 2 diabetes and will be put on a healthy greens and low sugar diet. President Leemm blames the "delicious", as he called it, Franconian food, often heavy in fruit and natural sugars. He says, though, he thanks the FE for their hospitality and how they even cheered as he came off the plane. Vekkla is truly changing and a Franconian economic partnership, though not total due to international law, will boost Vekkeli ties with Franconia for many years to come.

Popular Vote Increase

Greta Hrand may be in first place for popular vote, but Margareet Kenderhoff got a small boost to her vote sending her up by 3%. Kenderhoff was seen at a Liberal Voters Expo and has made some excellent points about some things that are happening in Vekkla.

(Kenderhoff): Of course the whole talk of the news right now is the Lake Derrkinor Mountain Fire. What we really need to do is pay attention to what caused the fire... years and years of improper disposal of toxic chemicals. Toxic chemicals are... well... toxic. It seeps into the drinking water of nearly 500,000 Vekkelis! While President Leemm, bless him and quick recovery from the low blood pressure, says that this is 'barely a catastrophe'.. We are living in one of the most Climate Driven times ever! And that shouldn't be a thing. My generation should never have let this catastrophe happen!

PFP Loses It

Leader for the Party for the People, Navia LekHomman, was caught accepting bribes from other people in her party so she can add some of their political agenda in a rather liberal bill. The bill was addressing Gendered Bathrooms and addressed whether or not it was okay for tansgender citizens to use the restroom of thei choice. In the bill, the House of Representatives was reading over the legislative piece and noticed an area of handwritten additions, which are not uncommon just to not waste paper. Those notes said that there must be a 70 Astron tax for transgender Franconians to use the restroom of their choice IF they were living in the Empire. The notes aslo included that bribes will be legal to get out of political trouble and that nobody had the right to transformative surgery. Of course the Empress showed up in the chat and stole the show.

(Xemptoworth): This is a monstrosity on itself... Not only did Parliament offend nearly 210,000 Franconians, but they also offended the system as a whole. It is no wonder they aren't doing so well in poll numbers right now. *sigh* Look. If you don't like them, don't vote on the bill. Abstain if you must! But don't ever try to take Franconians' rights away! Navia LekHomman, I now see the type of person you are..."

Spring Temperatures Arrive

Though the lower elevations of the country don't see that much of a temperature shift. It is starting to cool off some which means Franconian BBQ season is upon us. Get out those grills because the higher elevations will see temperatures in the lower 20C's to about 15C at about 213 to 304 meters up. Anywhere higher in elevation will see 14C until about 500 meters up. From 500 to 1000 meters, rain and sleet will be falling with temperatures ranging from 11C to about 8C. Much change on the way in terms of weather, but rain could be on the way for the coast. We'll have more for you later.

The family the Franconia Empire was named after went into hiding after "The Last Franco" and Emperor Lars were unalived. For the first time since 2066, we have found the Crown Prince of the Empire! Actor and Model, Hoort Heiden is closely related to "The Last Franco" by first cousins. He is 31 years old and has a love for his wife and seven cats. He was born in Quol and was a leader in the Green Energy Movement, which had some consequences but served the Empire well. For that, a park was built and named after him, though highly unvisited. The Empress, now Prime Minister Xemptoworth, has said this:

(Xemptoworth): It is time for new reign. Since 2066 the Franconian Royal Family have been missing, or in hiding. The crime that took place in the late 2060s said it all. The Franco Family was in danger. Almost a decade later, we have found His Majesty and Lady Heiden. Little did we know he was standing in front of us the whole time. Actor and Model Hoort Heiden will take this country back to it's former glory and the government will be complete again.

Heiden hasn't quite spoken out on the situation, but has posted on InstaFace "Me? An Emperor? You must have me mistaken me for my character in my movie "Cerula Bound by Ribbons"."

Clearly a tremendous day in the FE, and exciting news instead of chaos.

New Haven Magistrates Hall

Acting President Allison Wilson had been absolutely critical to the ongoing efforts to repair the Union. Albany has been savaged by the Temperance Mutiny as it’s been titled by the media and government alike. Six generals, three marshals and two admirals had turned against the nation they had sworn an oath to protect. With them they had duped or convinced 45,000 soldiers and personnel from the various branches with only a handful of commands not suffering any mutineers.

Tribunals were expected to begin within two months for some but could take years before the conciliations could begin in earnest. Some called for an expedited process to avoid dragging out the national feeling of suffering longer than necessary though the Justice Department continued to state it would only conduct the tribunals in conjunction with Military Justice in a timely and appropriate manner.

The Acting President flew out of New Haven International today headed for Central City in the State of Heartland. There she is expected to meet with Governor Lianna Reed to discuss what the Western State Conference needed in rebuilding terms. From there she’s expected to travel to Dorado in Deseret, to meet with representatives of the Northeastern Conference. The Southern Conference had already passed along their requests in communication ahead of her departure.

President’s Condition Improves
President Martha Prescott’s condition was said to be steadily improving after another round of successful surgeries, though the surgeons cautioned she had still not regained consciousness since the attack and until that happened they wouldn’t be able to fully assess her condition. Until the President either resigns or is reinstated, or god forbid die, the Acting President will remain as such and will exert full presidential authority and powers. If an election were to come to pass prior to the President’s recovery her term will end on the scheduled date. For President Prescott her term officially ends January 1, 2080 as she had just one her second five year term in early 2075.

The President's husband, former president Johnathan Prescott, has remained at his wife’s side since she arrived at the hospital, refusing to leave the building until she does. There has been a large public presence outside the hospital that the police have established a security perimeter with the Secret Service leading.

Albany saw tanks on streets across the nation, plans buzzing the skies and a perimeter established to defend and protect the Union’s most valued component, its public.

Holy Empress dissolves parliament

Oxnvuri, 12 tvkvmto / October 2075 | In an unexpected move, Her Imperial Majesty Holy Empress Vaxvivei I, who recently assumed the Majassan imperial throne after the death of her predecessor His Imperial Majesty Holy Emperor Veixe I, has dissolved the House of the Empire (Majassa’s parliament), which means that new elections will have to be scheduled.

Although it is custom for the People’s Council (the government of Majassa) to offer resignation to a new Holy Emperor upon the latter’s ascension to the throne, it is less common that parliament is dissolved.

The move can be explained by the recent assassination of Presiding Magistrate Povne Gugxani, but it can also be interpreted as Her Imperial Majesty’s disapproval of the current composition of the House, in which the religious conservative Majassan National Party MRB, of which Gugxani was the leader, is the largest faction.

Acting Presiding Magistrate Voceni Bavtasassi will remain in his current capacity until the confirmation of a new People’s Council after the elections. It is as of yet unknown when the elections will take place. The next regular elections shouldn’t have taken place until 2079, as the current House was only elected last year.

The national police force in the meantime have intensified their investigation after the circumstances that lead to Presiding Magistrate Gugxani’s murder. This investigation was put on hold for nine days due to the nine days of national mourning following the sudden death of former Holy Emperor Veixe I, a mere hour after Gugxani was shot dead, with many fearing that substantial evidence and momentum was lost in the process.

The police force is however investigating links between the shooters and the Albanese rebel group known as the Temperance Council, which claims to have established independence of The Union of Albany. Acting Presiding Magistrate Bavtasassi recently strongly condemned the assassination attempt on the Union’s president Martha Prescott, which is also believed to have been carried out by forces of this Council. Comparing their situation with ours, Bavtasassi expressed his wish that those responsible for the respective heinous crimes should be brought to trial where they will be condemned to pay for their wrongdoings.

Early elections will take place on 8 December

Oxnvuri, 16 tvkvmto / October 2075 | Early elections for the House of the Empire have been scheduled on 8 December, one year after the previous ones, following the dissolution of parliament by Her Imperial Majesty the Holy Empress four days ago. This means that parties have less than two months to launch and conduct their election campaigns.

For the ruling Majassan National Party (Majassohisi Risnovohisi Beje, MRB) it also means that they will need to choose a new leader quickly; since the murder on Presiding Magistrate Povne Gugxani, the Magistrate for Domestic Affairs Voceni Bavtasassi has been acting Presiding Magistate, but according to sources close to him, he doesn’t see it as his task to lead the country in a more permanent way. The MRB will therefore have to hold leadership elections.

Opinion polls show a volatile image of the citizens’ voting intentions: some suggest a huge win for the MRB as it could benefit from its role as victim, while other polls indicate that the current lack of a clear leader could take away seats from the MRB mostly in favour of the traditional conservative party, the Imperial Party (Civoinisi Beje, CB).

Following the overwhelming reports of accidental loss of civilians in the desert and the staggering costs reflected in the organization of search and rescue teams announced in the Treasury Department's bills after the last major sandstorm, the Secretary of Urban Management has requested a powerful investment to implement a Laser Locating and Rescue System (AYSA) to serve as a small oasis of hope for all those who unfortunately lose their way in the vast sands of the Zahedan Valley. According to academic advisor Saleth Makral, the "AYSA" will prevent the recurrence of migratory incidents such as the "Habib jump" of a few months ago, where almost 500 Kostouan nomads crossed the Rousan-Ralzawrian border with their livestock after losing their way during the event.

During the tests, AYSA has dazzled the population with the marvelous view projected on the night sky by this system of almost 50 multicolored laser pointers, provided not only with a closed channel of direct communication with the competent agencies of the National Police Force stationed in the vicinity, but also with emergency medical and food supplies to sustain a nomadic community of almost 1000 people, as well as a small series of subway rooms equipped with an independent thermosolar-concentrated electrical circuit for the accommodation of its visitors during the waiting period between notification and rescue.

Many have suggested using AYSA as an extension of the higher risk technological research bases of the country's leading universities given its amenities or even providing its ownership to private enterprise so as not to make its maintenance a tax burden to the citizen, however, so far the resolution enacted by Urthor Central University and the Ralzawr Chamber of Commerce has not been brought before the Academic Council because, even now, AYSA itself is controversial given that at least 35% of the voting population determined that it was an unequivocal waste of national infrastructure development funds, not to mention the security problems that these isolated sites could cause by serving as potential safe havens for criminal organizations.

Studies by the Farheim Ecological Research Team show that the sand is capable of retaining this heat for months, acting as a gigantic battery, capable of providing heating and hot water to half of the homes on the continent for years, that is if we do not involve the possible installation of subway thermal engines for the massive production of environmentally friendly electricity at a very low cost. Albanese democracy has been threatened, countless lives have been lost, Prescott has lost her government, but we will prevail. The Deputy Prime Minister Ruth McClanahan, WS Ambassador Joordi Zanrik, and I are introducing legislation to the WS, denouncing everything that is happening. No nation should be be put through the trouble of a coup. We must prepare to have an election process, so the people of Albany can tell the WS themselves that Prescott is the true leader. The Franconian Treasury is donating 2.5 Billion Astrons to clean up efforts after the Albanese Government is returned. We must remain optimistic, but alert. Hussein was shot in the leg. It went straight through his upper thigh and fortunately missed his bone and artery.

The lights came on, the audio mics were tested. In a navy pantsuit with an Albanese flag lapel pin, Acting President Wilson looked all the part of a President. White hair styled in what would have been common to most of Vesta in the 1950s but never fell out of Albanese favor. The holopromptor was being positioned in her eyeline. Everything looked perfect, picture perfect.

“3… 2… 1…” her chief of staff motioned for her to begin.

“Citizens, President Martha Prescott is recovering well and is going to be moved to Christine Plath Memorial Hospital in New Haven now that the worst of her condition seems to have passed. Doctors believe the President should make a full recovery. As of this morning, Martha Prescott regained consciousness and passed a series of tests meant to determine whether she had sustained damage to her cognitive abilities or memory and thankfully they concluded she is mentally sound.” She paused before continuing.

“I am naming Julianne Vanderock as Acting Vice-President until President Prescott can assume the presidency again. Senator Vanderock has served Braxton for 10 years in Congress and 4 years as Governor before that. I believe her experience will prove invaluable at this time. Additionally Albany will for the time being refuse intervention forces from non-Commonwealth or aligned nations. As such I am formally requesting the removal of drones by the Franconia Empire, Mydic Forces as soon as possible. The Union with its Commonwealth Allies is more than capable of standing firm. We appreciate the assistance at the time.” The removal of VA aligned forces was becoming paramount as anti-VA sentiment was beginning to run high. Rumors had become common public thought as they sought to blame someone for the mutiny’s boldness.

“Furthermore the Union of Albany continues to call on the Mydic Empire’s new government under Archon Xedes to fulfill their promise of a new referendum in Egia. As partners a solution can and will be found together. We will maintain a military exclusion zone around the archipelago of Albanese and Commonwealth assets to prevent any unwanted incidents.” Already Albany has ensured a large several hundred kilometer exclusion zone.

“I’m announcing that all low level participants in the Temperance Mutiny will be pardoned. Independent investigations will be conducted to root out anyone suspected of having committed war crimes or other crimes during the conflict. The officers and lead conspirators will be tried as planned.” That would bring the total number of defendants down from 46,000 or so to about 500-700 depending on if any war crimes investigations turn up evidence.

“Addressing the outbreak of political violence across our continent I say to our friends and partners that the Union’s vast intelligence apparatus is here to assist in tracking down suspects and helping to prevent further violence. We stand ready to prevent any further violence. Citizens stay safe and updates will come in the next few days as we continue to rebuild. Thank you all and God bless you.” The screens flickered off and the red light disappeared. A few technicians hustled about the office and began taking the holopads out. Acting President Wilson stood and walked out the doors onto a balcony. The view was New Haven’s skyline set against the dark calm Providence Sea. The shimmering lights seemed like diamonds among the night. A sensation of hope was taking Albany away from its troubled time.

President Pellegrini held a ceremony today at the Casa Baglio to sign into law the International Space Cooperation Expansion Law, a bill that passed earlier this week with significant support from both the ruling National Alliance and the opposition Social Alliance. The law authorised the Ministry of Scientific Research and Development to increase space cooperation with countries outside the Valentian Alliance (VA), including the following items:

• Increased exchange of scientific data obtained from telescopes and space stations.

• Opening of student slots for foreign astronaut candidates at the Valerio Ricardi Aerospace Academy, Sartoria's foremost institution for astronaut training and certification.

• Opening of limited crew slots for foreign astronauts at Apollo City, Sartoria's apollian base.

The law was contentious since its introduction after the 2074 House Election. While the National Alliance favoured a focus on strengthening the VA, the Social Alliance argued that this should not be done at the expense of enhancing Sartoria's presence in the world stage via cooperation with neutral and Commonwealth-aligned countries. The law eventually passed after both alliances agreed to support it in exchange for enhancing preferential treatment for VA members on a variety of issues ranging from space to foreign trade and supporting small businesses.

Minister of Scientific Research Flavia Polidori has announced that preparations are already underway to accept requests from foreign governments on any of the items contemplated by the new law.

The FE is withdrawing security drones that were sent to Albany to honor Acting President Wilson's request. The drones are on their way home as we speak, but it is leaving the question raised if the FE should have listened to AP (Acting President) Wilson's commands. Prime Minister Xemptoworth took to InstaFace today and said "I am worried... too worried." Press images show her and various other government officials still wearing orange, including the whole of the Commoners Party, the Liberal Franconians Party, and half of the Green Party. Clearly there is a worry in the FE that cannot be shaken, more so by the public and Parliament. Prime Minister Xemptoworth has scheduled a public meeting to discuss this matter and what steps you can do to help Albany.

Hoort Heiden Gearing up for Emperial Palace

Crown Prince Heiden is getting ready to go to San Juarez to live in the Emperial Palace, which has been vacant for almost a decade. Soon to be Emperor Hoort has accepted the seat as Crown Prince and will be assuming the position formally after Royal Training has been done. Coronation of the Emperor and Empress will be on 1 January 2076 in New Capitilia Square in San Juarez.

A recent poll shows that 84% of adults oppose the idea of republican reform. Steward Miles Pierce celebrated the result, when asked on his way out of service at St. Gregory's Apostolic Church, and said that "the current arrangement is consistent with our national history and works well to ensure our continuing stability and progress".

Hunton is a former commonwealth of the Cambrian Empire and still formally recognises the Cambrian Emperor as its head of state. In the absence of a legitimate successor, however, constitutional convention is for the Steward to be elected by the legislature to govern in the name of the monarch. Save for the post-war military dictatorship period, republican sentiment remains low in Hunton and all major parties support the status quo.

Trident Times

Launch of Astra IV Space Telescope
The Astra IV Space Telescope was successfully launched from the private spaceport Olympia in the Paxus Archipelago. The launch site is owned by Trident Star Corp which runs commercial rockets for satellite launches and supply runs to the Home 1 station. The launch of the Astra IV ST could be seen as a further expansion of TSC to rent out launch windows to the government as a contracted partner. As well as provide the launch vehicle.

Mydic Forces Withdraw
Following a formal request by Albany’s Acting President, the Ministry of Defense confirmed that Mydic forces under the command of Admiral Epherios were withdrawing with haste from Albany back to the Mydia’s mainland. This came as a surprise as many believed they would withdraw to Egia instead as that’s where they’d been stationed .

The National Conservatives under Opposition Leader Luix Hekklas denounced the idea of not having the forces return to Egia, seeing the move as leaving the Empire vulnerable. A major concern was whether any rogue elements remained and whether they posed any risk to the archipelago.

Comedian Uberto Berlinguer has announced his intent to spend an entire weekend inside the Gobetti House and to record the experience for later release as a streaming special. Berlinguer rose to fame as a stand-up comedian and later went on to host the award-winning Friends of Berlinguer radio talk show.

Gobetti House is a mansion in Meselia and is widely regarded as one of the most haunted buildings in Messelia. Built by senator Eraldo Gobetti in 1821, the mansion was the home of subsequent generations of his family until all disappeared at some point before the turn of the century. Carabinieri records show that no formal investigation took place, and in fact the family's disappearance was only noted once the third floor of the mansion collapsed in 1881 due to its severe state of disrepair. While several families have lived in the mansion since then, all vacated it within months and its most recent tenants abandoned it in 2017 after a mere 58 days.

The more sensational urban legends suggest that the Gobetti family was engaged in Sacuri rituals and left the mansion to relocate to Sacuria, while was then waging war on the Vasarian Confederation. The same urban legends say that the mansion is haunted by the Gobetti and those whom they sacrificed as part of their rituals. A more sceptic theory suggests that the story was invented to discourage spying on the Cambrian Ambassador's Residence, which was located in the same street as Gobetti House.
