Politburo to "Formally Consider" Signing LGBTQI+ Rights Bill
20 March, 2024

Over 53 years of repression later, the Politburo has made the decision to officially begin debating an LGBTQ rights bill which, if signed, could:
-Legalize same-sex marriages
-Abolish a sect of Tyrellian criminal law regarding homosexuality as an "offence against morality", punishable by up to one year jail and/or public caning
-Allow for the holding of pride marches and rallies in public spaces
-Grant transgender individuals over 18 the right to transition
-Establish a government fund to educate the youth populace about the LGBTQ+ community
-Allow same-sex couples to adopt children

This bill comes among the leadup to pride month worldwide, and under the new government is part of a drive to "liberalize" Tyrellia in the face of increasing criticism for its authoritarian regime.

Conservative think tanks have slammed this decision, calling it "blasphemy" and lobbying for the bill to be turned down; riot police were dispatched in Sacilio after protestors began to gather outside the National Congress Hall and throw stones at the building; five have been arrested.

In addition, on the heels of the so-called LGBTQ Rights bill comes another law intended to legalize abortion; for decades, abortion has been considered manslaughter and is currently punishable by up to 10 years in prison. With the new law, abortion will be fully legalized, and contraceptive pills made publicly available; currently, contraceptive medications are strictly controlled and only prescribed if the mother's safety is at risk.
