Yeah, they (just) helped. They weren't the big hero swooping in saving everyone's incompetent behinds, but of course they also were not irrelevant. None could have done it without the other. That's what I mean by helping. Alone the USA wouldn't have won. And alone the USSR would probably not have won as well.
