The 2020 Astana-Anders Election: A New Challenger

Joseph sighs heavily and reaches for a fountain pen. He knows that once the courts uphold the bill, the Lord President cannot do anything about it. He signs the document. "If that is the case, then get me Paul Rudy here." Paul Rudy was the campaign manager for Joseph Vargas back during his '16 campaign and is also a life-long friend of Joseph back during his days as a member of the technological wing of the military. Paul Rudy soon comes back to the office and gets greeted by a hug and smile from Joseph.

"Alright Paul, tell me, who will be my next challenger and what should I do to secure my victory?" Paul holds up a piece of charts and graphs and reads from them. "Under normal circumstances you would have nothing to fear, but this time it is not normal. A new party was just from called the D.U.-R. or the Democratic Union of the Republic. It is a left-wing-ish to centre-right party which just became a big part of the Parliament just last month. It is a massive coalition from the D.S.P., the N.L.P., the P.L.P, the M.-D.-R. and even the D.M.C. The took the best parts about each party and added it to their own. This means that now this party could be your biggest challenger to winning the reelection."

Joseph looks surprisingly shocked as he looks at the political map, even the most devot departments have no become swing-states. The most likely candidate is Coraline Virginia, a former P.L.P (Populist Labour Party) Parliamentary Senator before joining the D.U.-R. Some people have even called her "the Joseph Vargas of the opposition" due to the fact that like Joseph, grew up in the same situation and is just as popular. Paul adds. "I recommended only paying attention to this new party while still keeping an eye on the rest since they are not worth the energy for the time being."

Joseph can already sense that this will be a too close for comfort at best and absolute rioting at worse. History serves for the latter option.
