Cowbridge

The Twenty Years War was an event which took place in Cowbridgean history in the years 1698-1724. At the start of the war the two major powers in Brudgeland were Cascadia (has nothing to do with the region in North America) and Brazenburg. There were also six smaller states mainly in the north of the region, Goshen, Phillipolis, Grioualand West, Grioualand East, Natalia and the most powerful, Stellaland. In recent years, Stellaland had been in gradual decline and was falling behind the other two powers. It was also the gateway to the smaller states and beyond, which Brazenburg wanted access to. Knowing this, on the 1st of January 1696 Cascadia declared that they would guarantee Stellalands independence.

The war began when, against the advice of his friends, family and generals the Brazenburgan King Rudolphus II ordered an attack on Stellalands. Not long after Brazenburgan troops crossed the border, Casecadia declared war on Brazenburg. The well-trained Brazenburgans quickly dispatched of the majority of the Stellalandian Army and marched to meet the Cascadians. After a string of defeats, Johnathon Beswatch was replaced by Frederick Nassau as the head of the Stellalandian Army.

The first confrontation between the Cascadians and Brazenburgans occurred when Cascadian Army of 18,000 men and Brazenburgan Army of 26,000 met at Belymouth Hill on the border. The Cascadian Army positioned on the hill had the high ground and so the upper hand. Rudolphus knew this and so only dispatched a small portion of his army to march up the hill whilst another portion want around. After they successfully defeated the first portion of the Brazenburgan Army, the Cascadians advanced forwards. They were then attacked from the behind by the second portion and then attacked from the opposite side by the main Brazenburgan army. After fierce fighting and a lot of Cascadian deaths, the Casecadians retreated as best they could.
