As an additional boost, the second race will be a 9 mile race in Sunlight to advertise the beauty of the town. They will start in Old Sunlight and race their way into the Grōniz Forest, a popular bike trail. After 6 miles, they exit the forest and will follow the signs leading back to Sunlight: Main Village. So Un-extinct What was once thought to be a song of the past was heard again earlier today. The loudest bird on Vesta, the white bellbird, was heard again for the first time in 20 years when hunting permits got more strict. Haanz Loongerhaaf was thought to hunt the last known bellbird from Franconian existence, but today a researcher, who wishes to keep their identity private, found one that flew in to his car's open window. The researcher was actually doing a report on extinct animals in the Empire and had berries in his lap. The bird noticed and flew into the window. The bird also ended up taking his sandwich. The researcher chased after the bird into a forest clearing where the researcher was astonished about what he saw. Hundreds of White Bellbirds were screaming a song that has been long overdue for a listening. Have heard this news, the Empress signed into executive order to protect the Bellbird under federal regulations. The species will also be added to the "No Hunting" and "Endangered Species" list. Ice Caps Are Warmer Than Expected VA Researchers have found that the ice is melting at a pace that is normal, but the day they checked ended up being one of the warmest days on record. It may not sound so warm, but Franconian Weather Sattelites are reading a toasty 55 degrees. FE Scientists say most of it is because of a possible ozone hole in the Northern part of the planet may be causing this heatwave. More ice missions updates as they come. Potential Talks with Vekkla Empress Xemptoworth has asked President Leemm to come to the FE to discuss how to improve icy tensions with our long time rival. The topics of Green Energy and EVs, potential computer chip deal for personal technology, and possible peace talks are on the table at this meeting. Vekkla News Now Possible Talks Between Empress and President Empress Xemptoworth of the FE has shocked Vekkla this week as she called the desk of President Leemm to discuss possible peace talks between the long time rivals. President Leemm has agreed and will be flying to San Juarez to meet the Empress. The last leader to go to the Franconia Empire was President Birgir Villk in 2016 before the Great War. That was to discuss the rising tensions between the two nations as they were just developing tension. Xemptoworth says she wants to speak about possibly shrinking tensions between us and the FE, but the public is left wondering how. Nitrogen Explosion Update The fire is still burning at Lake Derrkinor Mountain today. Congress is asking President Leemm to declare an environmental catastrophe as plumes of toxic smoke fill the air. President Leemm says it will be made as soon as he can get to it due to other commitments he cannot cancel. The Air Quality Control Board has issued Hazardous Air Alerts for the surrounding areas of Lake Derrkinor Mountain, which unfortunately means that nobody will be able to drive or even leave their home due to the air quality. Hazardous Air Alerts will be continuously updated as the fire coverage progresses. Evacuation ls have already started just so people can get to cleaner air, but busses and trains are already filled wall to wall with passengers prompting the stay at home order. Mayor Heelvinik of Lake Derrkinor Village has stated in between coughs "This is horrible. We cannot be comfortable with this and I know that the government isn't really comfortable with this either. Declare Environmental Disaster NOW!" To the Stars Gretna Heinzborg, 36, psychological researcher, is being sent up to space on a mission proposed by the Union. Cloud 1 will be picking up the soon to be astronaut to research how space effects the psyche in reduced gravity, zero gravity, and limited space to work in. Kyasuthie - 25 August 2075 In a rare public appearance, Minister of Defense Tamiko Yamagishi announced that the Combined Fleet has been placed on "immediate alert for continuous operations", a term she described as including long-term operations utilizing the entire force in waters far outside friendly naval bases. Additional patrols have been ordered to the South Valentian Ocean, to include the R.K. Tsuneie Adachi, the fleet's newest stealth submarine. She cited increased tensions in the area as the primary cause for the shift in the fleet's readiness status, noting that this decision was made with careful consideration by the Cabinet and Grand President. Minister Yamagishi also spoke of a potential change to the Seven Republics' relationship with the Commonwealth of Nations, claiming "There is a future with the Commonwealth that [we] must strive towards, and this is a crucial step in that process." She took no questions and immediately left the room, leaving many to ponder this upcoming change. |
Classified Union Information Presidential Bunker beneath Republic Palace The screens and holoprojections were lit up with various red and blue dots with some larger formations of what were ships appearing to engage one another. Aircraft represented by triangles were spread throughout the zone in dogfights and other active missions. The situation was a mess and it was only going to get worse. An area of particular concern was around the aircraft carrier USV Constitution, the flagship of the Second Fleet. Its escorts were engaged at point blank range with submersible cruisers of the Mydic fleet. A bright white blip seemingly lit up the Constitution on screen before a an officer in the room reported on the incident; “USV Constitution reporting flight deck breached. Admiral Haywood has been wounded and Captain Anhauser has taken command. She’s reporting that the flight deck is operational, catapult two is offline. PDWs are said to be at nearly 50% capacity. She’s requesting a tactical withdrawal.” Fleet Admiral Nathan Wood, head of the Albanese Navy, spoke up. “Madam President, if we don’t heed Captain Anhauser’s request we would be putting into serious risk the Constitution as well as her sister ship the Enterprise, which as we speak is rushing from its position north of the Archipelago to join the Constitution. Admiral Saint Cloud will assume command upon reaching the second fleet and will likely advise a similar withdrawal.” President Prescott looked at the displays. Then Marshal Alexander Valesco, head of the Albanese Army spoke up. “Ma’am if we forfeit our position at sea we will forfeit any recourse for this. With all due respect to Fleet Admiral Wood and Captain Anhauser, we must hold the line and await the arrival of the Third Fleet under Admiral Vance with our task force. It is the position of the Army to recommend committing to the invasion.” “I told them not to invade in the first place, General. They were under explicit orders not to do so. When I stated that you were all present and understood. Recall the fleets, and dispatch the Ambassadors in Mydare and Messelia respectively. Call an emergency Security Council meeting at the World Society, we will address the situation ourselves in the open. Our ships and aircraft are to only open fire if fired upon and under no other circumstance, do I make myself clear?” In unison the Joint Chiefs agreed. Before she could leave the bips around the Constitution lit up. A volley of missiles previously undetected was inbound on the fleet. The red lines as projected paths showed that the carrier was going to potentially receive no less than thirty impacts, an effort to overwhelm the point defense systems. Several of the other ships in the group were already being pounded and two were considered lost. The carrier flashed bright. “USV Constitution being reported to have broken in two. Secondary detonations being observed by the USV Clinton, Captain Sanders aboard the Clinton is assuming command of the fleet as the most senior officer remaining and ordering rescue operations. Surrender of the Second Fleet is confirmed.” The room was silent. The arrogance of Admiral Haywood had cost not only his life but that of what would certainly be one of the worst naval engagements in the Union’s history. The man had gambled that a decisive destruction of the Mydic fleet based at the Egian main naval base would render operations there moot, unfortunately the Mydic subsurface fleet had arrived ahead of predicted timelines resulting in the figures being well against Albany. Admiral Haywood had ordered an attack without prior approval and against direct orders to avoid confrontation, his actions were treasonous. An opening though for Albany to disavow such an act of aggression and seek redress through other means. “Admiral Haywood will be branded a traitor. Any suggestion otherwise will be pursued as treason. We don’t need or want a war, and god forbid Sartoria’s Nationals want to give us one. Go salvage what you can before you cost our nation what little honor we have left.” With that President Prescott left her command room and headed for Congress. Treason on the High Seas! President Prescott branded Admiral Haywood as guilty of treason in carrying out an unprovoked and unapproved attack against the Mydic Empire’s naval installations in the Archipelago. She offered her sincerest apologies for such an atrocious act and promised that she would be carrying out a reorganization of military structure to prevent such an abject failure in the future. She also promised to introduce legislation next week that would pave the way for restitution for the Mydic forces and any financial damage incurred there. The President also stated it was the position of the Union of Albany to pursue a purely diplomatic path to possible reclamation of the Archipelago and stated that she would be ordering the total withdrawal of Union assets around the islands immediately and would refrain from deploying them near the islands. The Union announced a 725km exclusion zone around the islands stating that it believed the Commonwealth should honor it for the time being to avoid any additional unnecessary incidents. Opponents of the President took to social media to denounce the President’s apparent “cowardice” and some openly called for continuing the attack to take the islands back no matter the cost. Those in leadership positions throughout the Union, be they in Congress or the Governor’s mansions of the States hailed the President’s actions as necessary to preserve the democratic order and to ward off thoughts of military interventionism abroad. |
Canopy Chronicle Albany Attacks and Elections Soon! Archon Galanis, noting the elections are three days away, has recalled the ships to ports in the Archipelago and has ordered the withdrawal of 50,000 personnel from the islands back to the mainland though not by air. The withdrawal is expected to be completed in a month. The Archon stated that the Empire appreciated the Union’s exclusion zone and stated it would not be doing a planned freedom of navigation through the Providence Sea later this month to respect Union territorial security. Leader of the Opposition, Georgios Mastanakis once against stated it is the position of the Social Democrats to either honor the plebiscite or hold a new one under international oversight with set parameters such as an acceptance threshold and perhaps more broadly opening up the vote to those non-citizens present and he even suggested an age of 16 for the specific plebiscite while maintaining the 18 age for the federal elections. Opinion polls suggest the Social Democrats are likely to take a majority of seats and may be able to govern without a coalition partner though talks are already underway with New Dawn Party leader Xedes about a grander coalition. The same polls suggest that while Luix Hekklas of the ruling National Conservatives is popular, the party and their junior members the National Front under party leader Andronicus Mede are deeply unpopular. Mastanakis also reaffirmed the position of the Social Democrats to hold a referendum on the monarchy in 2076 should they win though the party leader, as well as the party itself, have not taken a stance as whether they would back the abolishment of the monarchy or promote it remaining in place constitutionally. The public is polling at nearly 81% in favor of keeping the monarchy though there is widening differences as to the role the monarchy and realm royalty should play in anything beyond a ceremonial position. Already the nobility pay some of the highest taxes on income generated through properties, business and engagements that they carry out. In fact through all the property owned by the Imperial Family puts nearly $600 million into the government accounts while drawing out only one sixth of that annually for the upkeep of royal properties and one sixth is divested throughout various patroned organizations. The remaining four sixths are put into the government’s discretionary budget to invest in various social projects and plug gaps in other parts of the government’s budget and are not in any way returned to the Imperial Household. The arrangement has been the case since Basileus Georgios I changed the treasury laws in 1883, two years after ascending the throne. Fire in Vekkla Minister of Emergency Management, Juliana Tsiro has offered assistance to the Vekkeli government in the form of a detachment of 100 specialized industrial firefighters familiar with gas and chemical fires. They would be able to be on the ground and assisting with getting the fire under control within 72 hours notice. The unit had been deployed alongside hundreds of others to Franconia months ago when fires threatened the interior. Fire season in the Empire is particularly rough in the interior where natural water formations are rare and most water has been brought in via the massive aqueducts and canals built to green the drylands. Scrub fires have been known to move and consume large tracts of the drylands with little notice for residence and such a sight has become all too common as climate change sets in. Arctic Expedition Swelters Marine scientists throughout the Mydic Empire, stressed the importance of curbing climate change and hailed the major progress the nations of the world had made in the last half century to avoid the worst case scenarios that had been talked about prior to the Great War. They admitted though the detonation of so many nuclear warheads in 2023 may have contributed to climate change though evidence of that is only now becoming clear as the 50 years pass. |

Wandering Ipriot Island Life “Arcadian, those islands have a story.” So I decided I had to come to them. To tell that story. Here I am sitting in a cute little seaside cafe listening as people go about their daily lives. The initial panic set in motion by the government in Mydare’s rejection of the plebiscite was swiftly brought under control through nightly curfews and the presence of a large security force. Protests over the annulment of the vote were small but orderly. Most citizens kept their heads down and tried to enjoy their slice of paradise. When it was announced by the Union’s own president that their forces engaged a Mydic naval force and suffered heavy casualties caused some unease. Many could recall the Egian War of the early 2040s and the devastation that it wrought on the islands. The scars were nearly gone though still visible through the memorials and memories. Not soon would that war be forgotten or the lessons of camaraderie the people of the islands developed from it. Even the most staunchly pro-Union politicians in the islands condemned the attack and stated that it was their belief that a redo would be the best option instead of simply reinstating the previous plebiscite. Calls for a redo grew. The collective sigh of relief at President Prescott’s promised exclusion zone and withdrawal were welcome, as were the words by the Mydic Archon that some troops would be brought home over the course of a month. Seemingly the archipelago would return to a sense of normalcy, this cosmopolitan beacon of cooperation. The Hidden Gems For the Egian Archipelago a nice hidden gem would be the mountain monastery of the Monks of Saint Adeline. The monastery is high up on the tallest mountain in the island group, Mount Serenity. Saint Adeline is a Messianic Patron Saint of Women and Children. The monastery was founded during the late 1800s by Albany when they established their permanent presence on the islands. Prior to the establishment of the monastery and the nearby community of Hillsboro, only Fort Hope, now Hopewell, was the inhabited area. Surprisingly enough you can also get a tour of the Mydic Egian Spaceport which is where astronauts from Mydia have been launched to Home 2 and other missions over the last half century when not from the Imperial Homeland. Seeing that spaceport sounds to be an exciting adventure in and of itself so that’ll likely be the last thing I do before heading out to take some much needed R&R. Vekkla News Now Breaking Now A second nitrogen explosion at Lake Derrkinor Mountain has completely shut down the village and caused widespread fires to start burning. The Lake Derrkinor Mountain Fire is now being dubbed as the "LDM Environmental Disaster Fire". People now as far south as Fruundalhoff Village, midway between Consreep and Lake Derrkinor Village, are reporting toxic smoke drifting into the area. Village Leader, Idelva Nuuk, has asked people to stay at home and has advised all shops to give out gas masks for free. The President has still not declared environmental catastrophe as he is "gearing up to go to Franconia". The second explosion has caught an abandoned ranch on fire. Luckily nobody was in the barn or house as it crumbled to the ground almost instantly. It isn't a pretty sight here in Vekkla. No word on death toll numbers just yet, but hospitals are starting to run out of beds due to the amount of people affected by the fire, 2,080. -Vekkla News Now 10. |
Breaking Fire in Vekkla The Lake Derrkinor Mountain Fire in Vekkla is causing chaos and toxic air to travel through the many canyons and valleys in that area. Mydia has sent a chemical fire response team to help contain the fire after one nitrogen buildup from deep under Lake Derrkinor Mountain. It also doesn't help that the area is known for dumping chemicals and toxins into the landfill. The landfill has been there for 23 years and has awoken a sleeping giant to the real world of climate change and environmental catastrophies. The Empress has sent 150 men and women from the Special Category Fire Unit, as they deal with: chemical, gas, and oil fires. Vekkla's Congress and over 2,000 citizens are calling for President Leemm to issue a statement on the issue in his own country, but he is declining to make a statement and creating chaos and frenzy between government, people, and media. The issue makes itself known more as stagnant air is making a buildup of toxic smoke in those hills and any large gust of wind blowing south will make it blow right into the capital of Consreep. The Empress had this to say... (Xemptoworth): "Franconians and Vekkelis may have their differences, but they are still people. When President Leemm gets to San Juarez, we'll add that subject to our discussions list. The Franconian Environmental Protection Agency will be in contact with the Vekkeli government on the issue and bring you updates as we get more statistics from them." The Vekkeli Air Quality Control Board has stated that they issued Hazardous Air Alerts for Lake Derrkinor Mountain and has extended them to Fruundalhoff Village, warning that people can choke on the toxic smoke and cause irreversible damage to the respiratory system. Government officials are now calling for gas masks to be free in the areas where the toxic smoke is drifting and has even warned that Consreep could get some of the smoke in the air by late Wednesday. Columbia Observer Treasonous Admiral Fleet Admiral Lucian Saint Cloud had taken command of the remnants of the Second Fleet, while the arrival of Admiral Lashonda Vance of the Third Fleet heralded the largest combined naval operation by the Union since the end of the Great War. Not even during the Egian War had three Union fleets been assembled at sea before, the actions therein were symbolic though the First and Third fleets were there to salvage and recover what they could from the disastrous failures of the Second Fleet. Mydic coast guard vessels were assisting in taking the most seriously wounded personnel to one of the Mydic Empire’s hospital ships, the Diocles. Efforts were being made on both sides to avoid any further confrontation. The Albanese cruiser Macon was towed to a nearby Mydic naval station for rudimentary repairs as towing over open sea was deemed unacceptably risky to both losing the Macon but also any towing vessels should the stricken ship go under. Sacking the Brass The sacking of a sizeable portion of the Joint Chiefs was followed up by the announcement that nearly 18 other senior military officers such as the Commander of the Western Naval Theater, Admiral George Forrester and Commander of the National Military Preparedness, General Ethan Bradford, signaled that the reforms and rooting out of nationalist entities in the Albanese armed forces was well underway. Cabinet Reshuffle Many across the political spectrum in Albany took note when the President named members of the main opposition to some of the positions she had removed members of her own party from. The act is likely to be seen as an olive branch with the political opposition, already many are saying this could be the beginning of serious overhauls of the Federal government in Albany. Commonwealth Support for Separately President Prescott offered direct financial assistance to Vekkla from Albany in the form of Direct Investment Fund capital to be spent on relief efforts for the fire. The funds would be seen as separate from anything the Commonwealth disperses. President Prescott described Vekkla as a partner and one that Albany was keen to aid in their trying and most difficult time. She also directed the navy to facilitate the arrival of two hospital ships that could be used to treat overflow patients at the coast, well away from the smoke. |
The Trident Times Elections bring change! Relative newcomer party, New Dawn to the left of the Social Democrats was another winner of the night having increased representation from 65 to 97 seats. The surprise is that the New Dawn was able to defeat both the National Front leader Andronicus Mede and National Conservative leader Luix Hekklas in their own districts which is likely to force leadership contests in the coming weeks within those parties. Already the Social Democrats have announced that party leader Georgios Mastanakis will be their choice for Speaker of the Synedrio’s lower house while putting forward a proposal to make New Dawn party leader Margot Xedes the new Archon. This has led to rampant speculation as to what kind of government and direction the Empire will take under such a youthful and activist leader. The Basileus, Leto III has noted that it is the Social Democrats who will be asked to form the first government once the elections are certified in the coming days. His Imperial Majesty was said to be elated that common sense won out and expressed enthusiasm to work alongside the incoming administration to address the issues the Empire faces. The Basileus as well as the Palace confirmed the rumors that said they were in talks with both Social Democrat Leader Mastanakis and New Dawn Leader, Archon presumptive Xedes about the referendum on the monarchy as well as the Egian referendum. Kyasuthie - 01 September 2075 At today's daily press conference, Chief Cabinet Secretary Kurō Daichi announced that the Seven Republics is presenting to the Commonwealth's Commission a proposal to radically alter the Commonwealth's unified military structure. The details have not been released to the public, at the wishes of the Septiman government, but Secretary Daichi mentioned it would streamline the chain of command for deployed forces and centralize assets under a single regional commander, including logistics assets. Another topic that Secretary Daichi broached upon was the recent fire at Lake Derrkinor Mountain, in Vekkla. "This is an extreme disaster, and one that we must get under control immediately. The Vekklan government will have our full support in combating this fire, both through national assets and at the [Commonwealth's] Commission." The Cabinet is meeting tomorrow to discuss the full Septiman response, coming in the middle of Grand President Hoshino's visit to Mugen-no-Shima. |

Vekkla News Now International Support A swath of nations have stepped in to help the Lake Derrkinor Mountain Fire. Starting off, Mydia has sent chemical and gas fire experts to help detain the fire, the same one that helped the HallowayFirein the FE. A couple of days later, a second Nitrogen explosion occurred at the same sight, sending flaming trash, acidic water, and toxic gasses into the air in the style of a volcano... though no magma or lava flows thankfully. After the second explosion, the FE offered a hand by sending their chemical fire experts to help detain the fire. Toxic air is making it hard for everyone on the firelines. Hazmat suits are being required once all crews have touched down in Consreep International Airport, the closest airport to Lake Derrkinor Village. President Leemm has finally spoken about the situation, saying "The fire is very castistrophic. We are doing all we can to stop the flames and thank the International community for the help. It will most likely take months of fighting and may he one of Vekkla's worst fire since the Betrovisk Forest Fire in 2033 caused by illegal fireworks. We will not let this happen again and my number one priority in my 2075 campaign will include measures to take climate change by the collar and throw it to the ground. No more will our grandchildren have to fear a desolate and toxic future. This is an environmental catastrophe!" Leemm Heads to Franconia President Leemm will depart later today on his own private jet to San Juarez to discuss icy tensions between the two nations. President Leemm has explained to Empress Xemptoworth that he agreed because most Franconian leaders have looked intimidating to most Vekelli Leaders. He has also said that she is "approachable and a good influence for the Franconia Empire". He will be discussing the rapidly growing retail sector of Vekkla and how the FE and Vekkla can benefit from each others economies. Xemptoworth said she will discuss climate change, the difficult history of the two nations and any ideas she has to warm relationships. Lots more will be discussed when time comes. FENN Breaking President Leemm from Vekkla has boarded his flight and will be in San Juarez later today. President Leemm and the Empress will be discussing the icy relations that the FE and Vekkla have had for 51 years. Public hopes for possible growth between the two nations is high and are willing to apologize and accept apologies to and from Vekkla. It was a silly dispute that led to a Vekkeli economic depression leading to record inflation and rising tensions between Vekkla and the Empire. The Empress has said that she will also be mentioning the Lake Derrkinor Mountain Fire and how Vekkla needs to stop dumping chemicals in landfills. Albanese- Franconian Dispute The FE is calling out the Albanese military for warmongering during the Egian Archipelago dispute. Albany in the recent past has deployed their military to set in a state of fear after Mydia claimed that they are not giving up Egian for national security reasons. It led for the FE to watch and observe from afar. Today, the Empress is raising red flags saying that she will go to the WS to apply for a non-political investigation into the Prescott administration. She is calling for all publically released government documents and emails between Prescott and the Union Military to make sure the Union didn't incite anything. The FE has no beef with the Union, minus morals and values, and wants this to be dealt with on an international scale. From what it looks like to the FE, the roll out of Naval forces from the Union was unjustified and should have never happened and got major international response by some nations going into standby in case things went worse. The FE sees it as an act of war, but will not escalate until conditions are right. Qastari National Report 18 June 2075 In the days since this turn of events, the government of Qastari has expressed its denouncement of the actions of the traitorous Albanese fleet admiral who lost his life in the attack, and announced that they would begin withdrawing naval vessels from the Egian Archipelago. Leading up to these events, it was the opinion of the majority of the Qastari government and the people of Qastari, that troop and naval movements were justified as a defensive measure both on the part of their allies and our own country. Now, however, the country is sending a clear signal that is it not willing to be seen as an aggressor in Egia or on the Mydic-Qastari border. In a show of good faith with the Mydic Empire, the majority of the naval and ground reinforcements that have occupied the Northern part of Qastari are being slowly drawn back. Reactions at home are mixed, and it is unknown how it may affect the government's standing with the people of Qastari. Will we praise the government's reaction to the changing circumstances presented to it, or will the people of continue to believe that the navy should remain in Egia? For now, it seems that there has been a strange role reversal on the internal political stage - Liberals, Nationalists, and those who align with them and saw Qastari's naval deployments as an overreach now claim that this is proof of the weakness of the Qastari Worker's and Progress parties. While supporters of the latter seem to have shown praise for the government's realization that diplomatic means will be the only path forward to liberate the people of Egia. Moreover, questions are in the air as to how this may affect upcoming elections, which are expected to be a determining factor in the future of Qastari; at least on a ground level, the Liberal Party has begun ramping up their rhetoric against the ruling government, and the Nationalists have increased the intensity of their demands to be allowed into national elections. 21 June 2075 These events are seen internally as a major blow to the efforts of the center and right-wing movements within Qastari. Trident Times Southern Olive Branch Hailing their victory at the polls, both the Social Democrats and the New Dawn parties pledged again to introduce a bill into the Synedrio’s upper and lower chambers to issue a “do-over” referendum in the Egian Islands on whether or not the people there would want to join the Union of Albany or remain Imperial citizens. Social Democratic party leader and Speaker of the Nydria (Lower House) has reaffirmed his party’s stance that criteria for those voting should be expanded to anyone considered a resident over the age of 16 in the islands should be allowed to vote. Speaker Mastanakis committed to also seeking a 60% threshold to have the islands withdraw from the Empire and see them handed to Albany saying anything less was not representative or understanding of the sensitive nature of the islands. Swearing in and Inaugural Investiture Basileus Leto III carried out his constitutional duties in investing the newly sworn in Archon at the Palace of the People (Paláti tou Laoú) as Lady Protector of the Realms of the Mydic Empire. A moment where the popularly elected Archon swears to uphold the sovereignty of the realms while also receiving oaths of loyalty from the realm leaders. A moment that harkens back to the nobility and old royalty of the various states that make up the Empire. Archon Xedes is known to dislike the monarchy and has echoed calls by some in her caucus to seek a referendum on the future of the monarchy as well as potential reforms to prevent an overreach by a more assertive monarch, noting that there were still some reserved powers for the sovereign such as being the commander in chief of the armed forces and reserving some authority to decide foreign policy. Franconian Request Mydic Archon Xedes echoed the Franconian call for a World Society Inquiry and stated that their ambassador to the Society would add their name to the document in support. The event caused some shock and surprise in Majassa as well, with politicians and social media dwellers alike asking themselves if Majassa would be ready for a war. Defence Magistrate Cevmi Astvngeirxe (CB) hastened to reassure the House of the Empire (Majassa’s parliament) that the Rabnovha, as the nation’s armed forces are unofficially called, is one of the most modern in the world. The fact however that a lot of the Rabnovha’s material was developed with or bought from the Union in the past and that certain procedures mirror those of the Union’s, in combination with the Union’s recent military faux-pas, made several members of the House question our nation’s current military strategies. In the light of Majassa’s upcoming accession as a full member of the Commonwealth of Nations, a motion was adopted by the House asking the People’s Council to conduct a thorough investigation of the Rabnovha’s readiness to respond to foreign aggression and to take the necessary measures if this turns out not to be the case. |
Columbia Herald Eagle ‘75 Update Facilities, habitats and even a bio dome for food was built throughout the 2000s though the Great War resulted in a pause and then suspension of operations on Apollo until 2038 when Albany returned to the site of NCB and deemed the majority a loss. New habitats were set up in the 2050s and when Commonwealth members began to join Albany in the late 2050s the base experienced a population and science boom. Since then the various Eagle Missions expanded capabilities and added a vehicle bay. The end of Eagle ‘75 will mark the beginning of the EDEN missions which will see the Commonwealth expand NCB to support civilian infrastructure such as housing, work as well as entertainment and green spaces. The missions will run till 2100 with the intent of a fully functional moon city by the end of the century. Additional manufacturing capabilities to expand on the rocket fuel systems already in place will be prioritized as important to convert the base into a commercially viable city. Response to Inquiry and Star Chaser President Prescott is slated to travel to Central City later this week to attend the launch of the Star Chaser mission. Star Chaser will be a state of the art mission to intercept a comet, extract samples from the surface and return back for analysis. The mission will help provide insights into the composition of these entities from our outer solar system. Casualty Report The official report highlighted that the losses far exceeded early estimates and announcements and are sure to be considered a deeper blow to the Prescott government as well as a humiliating admission that the Union fleet was caught unprepared for a fight it started. Unjust Peace It was at 0600 that the forces met resistance at a military base in Heartland State. There, a cousin to President Prescott was commanding officer and alerted loyalist brass of the ongoing military mutiny at the base. Within minutes the upper brass was aware of the extent of the ongoing coup. 0712 marked when the first explosions and gunfire could be heard in Columbia. At first civilians emerged from their flats and block tenements in confusion before overhead aircraft belonging to both sides began engaging in an all out aerial brawl to wrest control over the skies. Air raid sirens wailed across the nation as contingency plans swung into motion. Air raid bunkers not used since the Great War were hurriedly flung open and people packed the metro stations and parking garages lower levels in an effort to avoid the worst of the debris. Their long morning was just getting started. Elements of the Fourth Fleet were immediately ordered to sea to deter any rogue elements that might interfere. Congress members were ushered into hiding. Speaker Vivian Harden unfortunately was gunned down at her home outside the capital city before her detail could get her to safety. Vice President Harris’ helicopter was intercepted by rogue forces and shot down. It’s unknown whether the Vice President survived or not. President Prescott as well as her husband were whisked out of Republic Palace and aboard Atlas One within minutes of the first rogue military movements. The President has been taken to a safe undisclosed location where the following broadcast was made. President Martha Prescott sat behind a desk that was an exact replica of the one in her office back in the capital. Albanese Union flags were behind her as well as those of the various states. Her hands were folded in front of her and her expression was serious. “This morning elements of the Union military across the nation have taken up arms against our Constitutionally guaranteed government. Open warfare raged around important strong points throughout the nation with various dams, power facilities as well as logistics hubs all being brutally attacked. The severity of the situation could not be understated, the stable and proud central government of the world’s largest democracy stood attacked by rogue elements of its own military.
