As the country continues to rapidly modernize and industrialize as part of Hannibal's policy. They would need to expand to pull in additional resources such as steel, coal, and other raw materials to meet these requirements. Initially, Carthage had been hiring privateers to loot and pillage ships crossing into the Mediterranean, but this method proved to be inefficient as piracy was becoming harder and harder due to the implementation of advanced naval technology such as submarines and dreadnoughts. The only method to ensure the empire's place in the modern world was through imperialism and colonization. In response to this question, Hannibal sent a fleet of warships under the command of Admiral Lester Hillman. This fleet would take the name of the Grand Carthagian Navy and be the main driving force behind the empire's amphibious assaults. Under Lester's command, the fleet would launch an attack on the island of Malta, quickly blasting through the country's underdeveloped navy and surrounding the island in a matter of days. On the 13th of September, the Carthagians bombarded the island's main port city St. Paul's Bay, before crossing the Grand Harbour into the island's capital Valletta. The following morning, a brutal raid was conducted on the city and surrounding areas. The Carthagians fought ruthlessly, slaughtering all who resisted their invasion and enslaving any able-bodied men who were still left standing after the attack. The rest of the island soon fell within the following week. Carthage had consolidated control over the east Mediterranean and now looking westward to the islands of Sardinia and Majorca to conquer. With the navy refueled and reinforced, the navy launched multiple attacks on the island of Sardinia, slowly chipping away at the island's defenses and laying siege to multiple port cities and plundering what they could find. They eventually captured the capital city of Cagliari, bringing the rest of Sardinia down with it. Minor resistance would continue throughout the island for a couple of weeks before being crushed by the new military police that Hannibal created called the Green Force which would be responsible for temporarily administrating recently conquered territories and incorporating them fully into the growing Carthagian Empire. Hannibal would continue to bolster his military presence in the region and began a massive reconstruction program, employing thousands of men to construct cities, bridges, and roads of conquered territories.

TOP STORY: Barlyy gains power, but lets Baloo stay as delegate

In the PM elections in Callista, Barlyy "Sketchy B" "Antichrist" "Loaves" won the election. However, since god Baloo wanted to let his delegacy streak reach a full year, Barlyy is not the WA delegate. This keeps control in the hands of Baloo, as it always should be. Arisyan also won the Justice elections with Baloominati support. This notably has caused longtime member Plus Nova Imperii to move to the Vincence Empire, in his future endeavors we wish him luck. Barlyy is still doing things though, like organizing the ongoing Larasta Yearly Hedonistic Acts along with the lovely folks from Laraniem like Hagston, which has proven to be...adequate.

Just kidding, it's actually been pretty good Barlyy, keep it up <3

INTERREGIONAL: Barlyy Strikes Back

In our neighbour region the Institute of Cellulose, the PM election race is underway. Our local grain crop Barley announced his intent to run with Briteannia, one of the puppets he committed fraud with...uh, I mean did nothing with. Nothing happened in BCK Square in 2020. Hail Baloo...

Anyway, Barlyy is running in IOC's PM election with that puppet. He recently released his really long campaign dispatch, which has encompassed over 100 reads while turning away about that many voters, due to the incredibly cringe Hamilton references. At least he isn't throwing away his shot, but Barlyy has no chance of being in the room where it happens. The Baloominati will live to tell it's story!

POLITICS: Barlyy story #3

Barlyy has certainly been the star of the past few months. His administration has already shown itself not to be afraid of taking action unlike many past Baloo administrations, which although were prosperous and stable, are believed by some of the opposition (read: heretics) to have caused stagnation. Don't worry, Arisyan was severely punished. One of these recent actions taken was making a new Roleplay! Number 3 or 4 on the count now. But it's only existed for two days and has already broken the record (probably), and will hopefully bring great happiness and enjoyment to those who don't actually want to go to war for their country, and instead sit around in their mom's basement pretending to move troops around in a text based nation simulator game.

Shame on you. Be more like Poskukune.

After talks with his top advisors, Kaiser Wilhelm II gives up on taking Switzerland. He listens to his advisors when they say that the mountainous terrain would make an invasion difficult and not worth all the trouble. In addition, Switzerland is landlocked and not well suited for mass agriculture. Instead, Wilhelm II turns his attention to Slovenia. This is the more valuable target, as it has a port on the Mediterranean and can allow trade. Germany sends an ultimatum to Slovenia demanding the western part of the country, including the coast. Unsurprisingly, Slovenia rejects this and Germany declares war. Wilhelm II’s advisors warn him against using blitzkrieg because it is costly and against the Callistan code of war. Wilhelm II listens to this and begins an invasion of far eastern Slovenia, mainly because it is flatter and easy to start with. The Slovenian military is stationed around the coast to protect it because that is what Germany wanted most and they thought that Germany would go for it first. They did not foresee Germany invading the eastern part and the Germans quickly take out the east of the country. The Germans then reach a stalemate as the approach western Slovenia. It is more mountainous and they meet up with the Slovenian army. A frontline forms and the two sides are stuck fighting there until more German reinforcements arrive. The Germans then find mountain passes and travel through them to the coast. This takes about a month as The terrain is rugged to get through, but eventually, the Germans reach the Italian border and then begin to move south toward the Slovenian coast. After weeks of trekking through the mountains, the Germans reach the Slovenian coast and besiege then remaining Slovenian army. The siege lasts for several weeks until the Slovenia army runs low on supplies and can no longer get reinforcements because the Germans have occupied the entire country. Finally, the Slovenian army surrenders and a peace treaty is signed. Germany then annexes Slovenia and begins plans to develop a major Mediterranean port.

The 74,000 strong 1st Army of The Philippines would arrive from Taiwan at Lingayen whilst the 2nd ATP of 69,000 men landed at Baler both unopposed allowing the artillery to be loaded without difficulty. The two armies moved to set up a foothold zone between Lagawe and San Fernando using light artillery to great effect against the decentralized resistance taking multiple cities in the area such as Bayombong with ease. The 1st would then move to secure the north while the 2nd headed south encountering more organized resistance by Filipino groups eventually coalescing into the Filipino Free Army in the Battles of Metropolitan Manila. The Filipinos gave great effort in their resistance but their inferiority in weapons and training had them battered again and again until they lost Manila, from there the armies would be joined by a third army fighting a prolonged war over the months going as far as Roxas before the years end.

Victory in the islands was a big political victory for the conservatives who took control of the Diet from the liberals in July’s Elections, the leftists also saw victories further biting into the liberals. In a bid to regain popularity the liberals supported sending to two armies to Siberia to take control of some profitable resources said to be there but the deployments have been delayed by the focus in the south. On a different note a list of demands have been sent to the Korean government demanding exclusive access to mineral deposits to Japanese Companies.
