The end of the message is a word often used to make fun of autistic people. I imagine it's not how you meant it, but it's used that way enough to where it's probably better to just avoid it.

I've never heard it used that way personally. I just remember is being used as a screeching noise. I've learned something new now though so I'll try not to use it.

Yeah, it's something some people simply haven't been exposed to. You're okay!

Greetings,

There will be a new SC vote at major update on a proposal to Condemn Quebecshire.

For those who are confused about this proposal, that is entirely reasonable. Unless you're a member of a relatively small social group that frequently visits this place called the "NationStates Game Play Discord Server", then there is no reason why you should understand this proposal. Or find it funny. Or care about it. In fact, it is the second proposal from the same author of this variety.

Thus, this attempt at humor gets a thumbs down, against recommendation from me. I could make a Dispatch, but nah, that's more work than this is worth.

Hello! Welcome to Refugia!

Welcome, new folk!

There's currently a WA General Assembly vote on "Protecting Convicted Voters." I've attached an Information for Voters dispatch below detailing the regional position. In short, the referendum at vote doesn't go far enough in securing political freedoms, particularly by only applying its mandates to public office elections and not other forms of votes, so I'm advising voting against.

Protecting Convicted Voters
Information for Voters

Summary

The question of whether prisoners should retain their right to vote in elections is debated pretty frequently. Some would argue that participating in the democratic process is a foundation right of citizenship, while others assert that it's a privilege which can be revoked based on behaviour. This resolution takes the position of the former, and thus advocates for the voting rights of incarcerated persons. It basically requires that people who are imprisoned be allowed to vote for public offices, given reasonable access to voting materials for public offices, and not be coerced to vote in a particular way in an election for a public office.

Analysis

Did you notice it? That everything in the previous section is qualified with "elections for public office"? Because that's all this resolution applies to. It does not guarantee prisoners the right to vote on referenda or other such non-election matters which frequently come up in democratic states. As such, it's a pretty weak solution which shouldn't satisfy anyone seeking political freedoms for prisoners. We can do better.

Additionally, there's an argument to be made that prisoners whose crimes involved electoral fraud should be barred from voting. This IFV takes no position on this matter, but notes that the proposal does not make any such provisions.

Recommendation

Because of the obvious oversight which fails to secure complete political freedom for those imprisoned, the Refugia Councillor of World Assembly Affairs recommends voting against Protecting Convicted Voters.

I have a similar problem. Due to my nation's theme, I must misspell kraken, so the game doesn't recognize it as an aquatic animal. Even though a space kraken should be a space-dwelling creature

Welcome, Fruitstrike, Istantine, Ambassador Bele Levy Epies, United anarchist witches, Saint girono, Uryuu, The t a r d i s, Lipper tallysia, Arastovas, Coninglon, Tikiote, Petit cakingsberg, Shabadaa, Virtual memories, Sidoneia but spelled right, Liechbourg, and Tyrannosaurus meg, to Refugia! I hope each of you enjoys your stay. If it applies to you, please pay attention to the rest of this message.

Refugia aims to be a friendly, laid-back community, which is open to players of all experience levels. Nations who wish to become more active in the region, however, should consider joining the World Assembly (WA). WA nations are able to vote on international law, and receive exclusive benefits within the region, such as the ability to vote in regional polls and elections, get a spot on Refugia's map, and even run for office when elections come up! If you're interested in joining the WA, check out this article, and make sure to endorse our delegate.

If you'd rather just chill with us, that's perfectly fine as well. We have an offsite forum, as well as frequent discussions on the regional message board (RMB), which everyone is welcome to participate in!

If you have any additional questions about the region or how NationStates works, feel free to leave them here, on the RMB. If you're interested in joining our offsite forum, look for the link at the top of Refugia's World Factbook Entry (the big text box at the top of our regional page).

Once again, I really hope you enjoy your time here, and look forward to seeing more of you soon!
