TO say the past year and a half has been devastating for the New Pacific Order (NPO) would be quite the understatement. Formerly a titan of gameplay, their efforts of the past few years have manifested in earning the “honor” of being one of two game-created regions (GCRs) with no official ties to any other GCR - alongside Osiris, another region smitten from gameplay for similar crimes against their fellow regions.

While the complete abolition of the NPO’s ties to any GCR is perhaps the most apparent sign of their decline, other indications continue to make themselves more and more visible. This week, Emperor Pasybfic (a/k/a Syberis) - who had ascended to the office just under nine months prior, stepped down and was succeeded by Krzyzewskiville (a/k/a SoL) amidst failure in the NPO to reverse its fortunes. Syberis’ own ascent to the office was premature, the former infiltrator of Lone Wolves United (LWU) being chosen in the wake of then-Empress Marinas Island’s unfortunate absence due to real-life circumstances. Syberis, previously considered a dark-horse candidate due to his transparent past as an infiltrator into the region, ascended to the throne inheriting a litany of issues that had blown over into the NPO’s near-total diplomatic isolation and collapse of interregional alliances several months prior.

It would not be impossible to argue that Syberis may well have been a relatively successful Emperor had his reign been at a more peaceful time in the NPO’s history - but he was not given that luxury, and his reign saw a failure to reverse the downward trend the region had been set upon. Within the first few weeks of his tenure, the NPO suffered an intelligence disclosure revealing harsh internal attitudes towards the East Pacific, notably the only GCR to maintain ties with the NPO after 2018, and their then-delegate, A mean old man (a/k/a AMOM). Unsurprisingly, the leaks prompted the repeal of TEP’s treaty with the NPO, and soon after, Balder made the choice to repeal their extant treaty after the leaks additionally implicated NPO leadership in attempts at rapprochement with the Osiris Fraternal Order, whom Balder is actively at war with. These two repeals marked a grave sign for both Syberis and the Order, and the region entered the deepest isolation in its history, eclipsing even their 2018 crisis.

Treaty repeals and diplomatic isolation were major losses for the NPO, to be certain, but this would not be the end of the region’s woes under Syberis. In the months preceding and for the entirety of his time as Emperor, the NPO continued to bleed talented contributors and veterans, who often found greater opportunity in other regions - or chose to depart entirely. For the entirety of time Syberis was Emperor, resignations or defections continued to rock the NPO almost every month. From Senators Greatkitteh to Dimitri, and even the then-Regent Dio, the region’s talent pool evaporated almost entirely. It was, additionally, these departures that led to SoL being appointed Regent, and later Imperial Successor of the NPO.

Per his designation as successor to the throne, SoL became the official WA Delegate and Emperor of the Pacific at minor update on the 6th of September, 2026. In a manner unusual compared to every prior transition of government in the NPO, no public announcement was made of the decision before it had been completed. When the time had finally come, a rather succinct statement was issued by SoL, largely focused on mediocre attempts at apologizing for the NPO’s past misdeeds. Of course, these were too little, too late, and immediately dismissed due to the messenger. To his credit, SoL was a relatively known figure among the active participants of gameplay - but that is about the kindest possible that could be said of him; his primary occupation during the reign of Syberis was to act as a spokesperson for the Order, in which he would offer quips such as the NPO being “not at their best”, followed by his complete silence until another wave of criticism aimed itself at the NPO in successive weeks or months.

Beyond SoL’s unsurprising debut, the playbook used in it, and his shirking of the slightest duty to the gameplay public, his ascent alone cements the issues systemic to the NPO. There is no great upstart in the region, no seasoned veteran willing to take the reins in anticipation of the former, no great works or statements of the NPO’s ambition or desire to change. There are no remarkable figures in its government, no external wishes to see its revitalization. The New Pacific Order, born out of fire in the primordial era of nations twenty-three years ago, sulks into the darkness without even a whisper. While it is impossible to presciently discern the events that will unfold during SoL’s reign as Emperor, it does not take any exceptional quality to see what the end result will be - his stepping down in disgrace, to be unceremoniously replaced by Corporate with an equally unqualified candidate, or a continued desperate clawing at the eyes of those who see them.
