C-2 Briefing Room
Don Chedisso Bay Naval Base
Alunya and A1unya
“Attention on Deck!!”
Commander Isabella Monterese entered the room, returned the salutes, and proceeded directly to the lecturn.
“Be seated.”
“Your briefing notes for the day contain the latest intel, provisioning, and punch lists. Be sure to read them thoroughly upon return to your commands, and call Captain Guruntinnapam if you have any questions.”
“Those of you familiar with Task Force 23 will no doubt have noticed the presence of Captain Pisharody of RANS frigate Simblar and Captain Cifonelli of the RANS submarine tender Leticia Bay. Welcome, lady, gentleman.”
“Captain Variar, Leticia Bay will lay up alongside your submarine tender Corregione Bay, and you will transfer your present stores across deck. You will cooperate with Captain Cifonelli for this purpose. You have three days to accomplish this, then have your crew ready to load arriving scientific gear from civvies. Corregione Bay will now be assigned to scientific support duties in coordination with the polar research icebreaker MV Porta-Tortie. Leticia Bay will assume your previous mission. OpSec requires that Corregione Bay remain with Task Force 23 as the known submarine tender. Your assignment to TF 23 is already known to one or more foreign intelligence services. This is why you are transferring stores.”
“Captains Cifonelli and Pisharody, your ships shall be designated Task Force 23 (Detached). Simblar will escort Leticia Bay to Areas Whiskey, Tango, and Foxtrot along the Plemboiyan coast for submarine operational support. You will operate under EmCon-2. Your code names for any secure encrypted communications with the rest of Task Force 23 are in the classified portion of your briefs. You are to remain out of visual and radar line of sight of TF 23 until they have completed their assigned scientific tasks. You will sail in five days, ahead of Task Force 23.”
“Now for the bad news, ladies and gentlemen.”
“Captains Biancheri and Avitable, your mine-layers RANS Feralcity and RANS Nefarious will be hosting foreign scientific and support personnel. A small detachment of Royal Alunyan Marines will be embarked to ensure that your guests remain clear of your munitions. Your ships have been seconded to the scientific portion of the mission. Upon disembarkation of your guests and release from the science mission, you will then proceed to Areas Whiskey, Tango and Foxtrot along the Plemboiyan coast for submarine operational support.”
“Captain Kannoth, your fleet replenishment ship RANS Indigo Blue likewise will be expected to house scientific support personnel. Every effort will be made to ensure that only non-smokers will be embarked. As your accommodations are superior, you may find your vessel hosting some of the more distinguished scientific guests. Accordingly, you are being supplied with flag provisions.”
“Captain Kurup, your cable-layer RANS Malmazone will proceed with your mission, unimpeded. Your vessel, and the three contracted ocean-going tugs in your support, will be off-limits to all scientific personnel. You may, at your discretion, provide assistance, or direct your tugs to provide assistance, to the cable-layer MV Glomar Spyder in support of her scientific mission, provided that doing so does not jeopardize your mission.”
“Commander Passafiume, your frigate RANS Lobotomy Bay will be responsible for the force protection of Task Force 23. You retain overall command. Additional force protection assets, and other pertinent information, are in the classified portion of your briefing folder. Do inspect it for any changes, and contact Captain Guruntinnapam if you wish to go over the material with me.”
“Ladies and gentlemen, I know the expanded scientific missions do increase the burdens placed upon you. Bear in mind that support for such science comes from the very top. Their Majesties expect your crews to treat the scientific and support personnel with the utmost courtesy and respect. Unless your mission or safety at sea requires otherwise, you will consider them to be honored guests.”
“And to that end, any shore leave for your crews is hereby revoked. Your crews will be expected to assist the stevedores with loading any and all scientific gear. It is expected that the majority of any gear and personnel will come by truck from Culcatta International Airport via the main gate to our docks here at Don Chedisso Bay Naval Base. But some material may arrive at the Naval Air Station, so be prepared for short notice loadings.”
“Be mindful that scientific material may be fragile and sensitive. Direct your crews to handle the material with the same care and diligence they would employ when handling munitions. They are to do their best to adhere to the guidance and advice of the scientific and support personnel responsible for the material.”
“That will be all. Carry on.”
