Downpour Hits Pyongyang

Pyongyang, August 19 (KCNA) -- Downpour, affected by the seasonal rainy front, hits Pyongyang, flooding roads and cutting off traffic in some parts of the city. -0-

Torrential Rain Lashes Many Areas of DPRK

Pyongyang, August 19 (KCNA) -- Downpour has hit again Pyongyang and Nampho cities, South Phyongan, North and South Hwanghae, Kangwon and South Hamgyong provinces, in the wake of heavy rains on August 14-15.

According to an initial survey, from 12:00 Friday to 06:00 Sunday, 289 mm rainfall was observed in Phyongsan, 241 mm in Sinphyong and 231 mm in Kumchon counties, North Hwanghae Province, 260 mm in Sepho, 246 mm in Popdong and 204 mm in Ichon counties, Kangwon Province and 208 mm in Pongchon County, South Hwanghae Province.

Samsok District, Pyongyang City and Cholwon County, Kangwon Province experienced 189 mm rainfall and Singye County, North Hwanghae Province 184 mm.

Nearly 30 areas have been visited by a heavy rain above 100 mm up till now throughout the country.

It rained 86 mm in Phyongsong City, South Phyongan Province, 68 mm in Ichon County, Kangwon Province and 60 mm in Yodok County, South Hamgyong Province from 03:00 to 06:00 Saturday, while 98 mm in Pongchon and 70 mm in Unryul counties, South Hwanghae Province from 06:00 to 09:00 Saturday and 103 mm in Phyongsan County, North Hwanghae Province from 09:00 to 12:00 Saturday.

The rainfall is expected to last until August 21. -0-

장마전선의 영향에 의한 련이은 폭우와 무더기비

조선에서 중부지방에 있는 장마전선의 영향으로 지난 14일과 15일에 이어 현재 평양시,남포시, 평안남도, 황해남북도,강원도, 함경남도에서 폭우를 동반한 많은 비가 내리고 있다.

초보적인 자료에 의하면 17일 12시부터 19일 6시사이에 200㎜ 이상의 비가 내린 지역은 황해북도 평산군(289㎜), 신평군 (241㎜),금천군 (231㎜), 강원도 세포군 (260㎜), 법동군(246㎜), 이천군(204㎜), 황해남도 봉천군(208㎜)이다.

평양시 삼석구역과 강원도 철원군에서 189㎜,황해북도 신계군에서 184㎜의 무더기비가 내린것을 비롯하여 100㎜이상 내린 지역은 근 30곳이나 된다.

18일 3시부터 6시사이에 평안남도 평성시에 86㎜,강원도 이천군에 68㎜, 함경남도 요덕군에 60㎜,6시부터 9시사이에 황해남도 봉천군에 98㎜,은률군에 70㎜, 9시부터 12시사이에 황해북도 평산군에 103㎜ 등 많은 지역들에 련일 폭우가 내렸다.

지금 내리는 비는 21일까지 계속될것으로 예견되고있다.(끝)

DPRK Affected by Flood

Pyongyang, August 21 (KCNA) -- Flood, triggered by heavy rain on Aug. 18-19, hit some areas in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

According to an initial survey, the flood left more than 90 dwelling houses and public buildings destroyed or submerged in Pyongyang and Nampho cities and South Phyongan Province and nearly 440 people homeless.

Meanwhile, over 560 hectares of farmland were inundated and nearly 100 hectares were washed away or buried in west coastal areas and South Hamgyong Province. -0-

In his analysis of imperialism Lenin showed that the development of monopoly capitalism is at the same time the history of its territorial expansion, of its drive to subjugate other peoples and for world domination.
He drew attention to the export of capital as one of the essential forms of this process. This characterization of imperialism holds true today as one of the principal means through which it exercises its policies of neo-colonialism

The main aim of neo-colonialism is to keep the newly emerging economies (nations) under capitalist influence and to undermine the national and social liberation movements. The export of capital is used as an instrument in the competitive struggle between the monopolies of different countries for spheres of influence within the bounds of the imperialist system.

Capital export in the guise of investments and loans is one of the ways through which U.S. imperialism has extended its control over the Canadian economy, not to speak of other capitalist countries, with the aim of subordinating them to U.S. imperialist aims.

Despite the drive toward domination inherent in imperialism, the claim is made, that because most colonial countries have achieved their political independence, imperialism has changed its nature and is a thing of the past. Those who advance this erroneous position make the question of colonies the "main" and sole attribute of imperialism.

What they choose to ignore is the economic foundation of imperialist expansion. What is also ignored is Lenin's point that under imperialism economic annexation is possible without political annexation. Canada illustrates this perfectly. U.S. imperialism "prefers" to uphold the facade of an independent Canada in a formal sense, while striving to control it economically.

연회에는 조선로동당 중앙위원회,조선로동당 중앙군사위원회와 조선민주주의인민공화국 국방위원회 성원들,조선인민군 륙군,해군,항공 및 반항공군,전략로케트군 지휘성원들,동부전선의 련합부대장들이 참가하였다.
