well then, that's not our only weapon. our gravity shields are operated on detatchable discs which move to divert shields to the area of most fire. however, they can be used as weapons, and powerful traversal tools. they are capable of surviving and negating time dilation beyond a black hole's event horizon. they can also do the opposite, either crushing your ship, or freezing it in time if they don't get crushed.

Well, that was basically my original idea, basically just on a smaller scale. No lightspeed travel or anything, that would be implausible, and I doubt magnetic fields could be that strong.

actually, just use electromagnetism for hydrogen collection in a ramscoop drive, and you have easy near-realtivistic speeds
