I am pleased to announce that with a final vote of 29 in favor, 0 opposed, the amendment to Article 4 of the Forest Constitution has unanimously passed.

Thank you all for voting, and for granting these powers to our Founder. I believe it will make us a stronger, more efficient region!

Mount Seymour, if you would do the honors of updating the Constitution document with the relevant text:

Proposed Constitutional Amendment

This proposal is for an amendment to "Article 4 – Forest Keeper Elections" of the Forest Constitution:

I am calling for this amendment in accordance with part 8.1.ii of the Constitution, and as of April 2nd 2020, it has received Founder approval. I am putting forward this amendment as promised in my campaign platform, to facilitate regional management during the vulnerable time associated with the electoral period.

The purpose of this amendment can be summarized as follows:

1) To permit the appointment of temporary regional officers during the electoral period, at the Founder's discretion, for the purpose of providing moderation on the Regional Message Board

2) To permit the appointment of temporary regional officers during the electoral period, at the Founder's discretion, for the purpose of managing Forest's participation in a game-wide event or response to an extraordinary circumstance.

Proposed New Text

No text will be edited or removed from the current Constitution. This amendment would add three sub-clauses to the end of Article 4, as follows:

4.8 The Founder may, at their discretion, appoint one or more Election Officers during the electoral period when all other normal workings of government are stopped. These officers shall have power over Communication only, and shall serve strictly to perform moderation functions on the Regional Message Board.

4.9 Should an extraordinary circumstance such as a game-wide event arise during the electoral period, the Founder may, at their discretion, appoint such officers as are necessary to facilitate the operation of Forest during the aforementioned circumstance.

4.10 Should the Founder choose to appoint any officers during the electoral period, such officers:

i. May not be a candidate for Forest Keeper.
ii. May not use their position to campaign for or against any candidate.
iii. Retain their right to vote in the election, if they are otherwise permitted to vote.
iv. Serve only until the conclusion of the electoral period or the conclusion of the circumstance resulting in their appointment – whichever is shorter.
v. May be dismissed by the Founder at any time, with or without a reason being given.

This amendment passed unanimously, with 29 in favor and 0 opposed. Poll results: page=poll/p=155652

As long as they get out of the way, they can look however they like.

There were clouds of small gnats or mosquitoes or something when I was walking today. I swallowed one, making me cough a little bit for a while, of course. So yay.

The problem is that people cough. This is a normal reaction to many things, and can be as simple as dust, saliva, mucus, tuberculosis, etc. It doesn't have to the coronavirus...but when I see someone else cough these days, I'm wired and become immediately nervous. It's a shame that the virus didn't glow hot pink or something.

"Nattily Dressed Anarchists on Bicycles's national animal is the trail dog, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests"

I wanted "bike mechanic" as my national animal, but apparently moderation considers this offensive, for reasons that evade me. The national animal is normally a symbol of strength and admiration, yes? Such silliness aside, I have to say, the above does read plenty fine.

I tried to go for some biking today.
Nothing to do with a certain global pandemic happened, but I am never trying to do off-road cycling again.

It's truly a gift to be able to both defraud TSP University and Jaguar Retirement Home by cancelling courses on subjects like biology, literature, and physics, while also providing students like you the opportunity to learn with the cheapest professors we could find at the bottom of a mine shaft (that both being where we found the professors and where the classes will be held). Do be sure to wear safety equipment, though we have a strict BYOH (bring your own helmet) policy for all incoming students.

Biology, literature, and physics? Never heard of her. By the way, it's okay, I don't need a helmet. I have a thick skull. 😎😎

I wonder if we'll learn about Xoriet's ancestors in this class, entitled... "The History of Feline Murderers in Cambodian Cinema".

My understanding of the reason for mods placing a blanket ban on making human beings your national animal is that it was being used to dehumanize individuals and groups. While you are correct that a national animal is "normally a symbol of strength and admiration," it was also being used to declare certain groups of people to be less than human. For instance, imagine a British Empire themed nation with its national animal set as "Irishman." You can extrapolate from there on the many ways it can be abused.

Obviously, your intended use was perfectly benign. But, as they say, "This is why we can't have nice things."

And for what it's worth, I think "trail dog" is the better option anyway. Quite nice :)

I've never been a fan of the idea that I'm not allowed a screwdriver because idiots insist on stabling themselves in the eye for no reason. Alas...

Yes, but wrenches can frolic freely as well, and should too. Although, if I hear correctly, they'll probably just frolic directly to the nearest pub. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, either.

They should all be called "Allen," cause that's the superior wrench.

I think I'm starting to wonder what my country is even doing with our main industry, I mean:

Seems internet cables are a thing of the past, I'm using boats to transport the internet.

Heh, the IT industry does involve physical product as well, you know. Smartphones, microchips and so on.

Or as the OECD puts it:

"ICT goods must either be intended to fulfill the function of information processing and communication by electronic means, including transmission and display, or use electronic processing to detect, measure and/or record physical phenomena, or to control a physical process."
