The Finger Lickin' Dictatorship of South KFC sorry for being late on this, but what happened with wagneria? |
just finished my chinese and math exam papers today, I'm so mentally tired |
The Jiyū Kyōwakoku of Southern Karafuto Damn guys, I know I'm not that active but what the hell happened here? |
The Intergalactic Federation of Roxium A troll got hit with the banhammer |
The Democratic Republic of Bearded Dragones You made it! Rest, my friend. Would you like pie? |
The Resurrected Ancient Ruins of WonGya a fascist |
wagnaria must have not looked at anything other than KFC's nation classification. Otherwise, it would be so clear that it is not a serious thing. It would make a bit more sense for me, seeing as I lack the comedic bits. Although, for the record, Tyramon is not fascist but rather more of a classical monarchy. WonGya, Aerlanica, and Southern Karafuto |
The Murim-roused Protopia of Galliadurm A classical monarchy... in space. |
The Resurrected Ancient Ruins of WonGya I tried to steer him towards talking about nation stats but obviously was not successful. dood was delulu, ranting about & seemingly seeking to call anyone he can a fascist. dood was ejected from 3 region in a day. that's a special kind of special Roxium, Tyramon, and Southern Karafuto |
The Magical Islands of Fivalia Everything’s better in space! Galliadurm, Roxium, Tyramon, and Southern Karafuto |
The Rei Khans Wife of North South North West Kansas And the speed of light is like 3 billion m/s if I remember right Light be like: I run circles around your feeble thoughts hahahahaha Would this be the god of pie?? Galliadurm, Roxium, Tyramon, Aerlanica, and 4 othersOateria, Southern Karafuto, Fivalia, and Lytaran |
Interestingly, gravity is faster than light. This is because the "speed of light" (roughly 300 million m/s) is the speed of light in a vacuum. Gravity always travels at this speed, but even outer space is not quite a vacuum, so light travels slightly slower than the speed of light. That's why when some massive event happens in space, we detect the gravity waves from it before we see its light. |
The Murim-roused Protopia of Galliadurm I was told they were equal. I wanna understand this better. ;-; What does this mean for the Flashes (like Wally West) then? |
The speed of light in a vacuum is equal to the speed that gravity travels. However, when light travels through different materials - anything not a vacuum - it travels slower. Space isn't quite a vacuum, as there is a very, very, very small amount of matter floating in it. Not much, but enough that light is slightly slower. |
The Murim-roused Protopia of Galliadurm Thank you for this. But um, as far as the speed of thought is concerned, how is that drastically slower than light? We're able to think about or catch on to the moment night becomes day- I remember noticing that quick change. o-o |
I agree and wish to clarify: Many Aerlanicans only calls Tyramon "Fascist" because "Fascist" is like a Mcarthyist buzzword for them. Neighbours dog tramples your roses? Dog's a fascist. Lady at the bar didn't tip you? Fascist. Giant Empire invades you? Well the last empire who we fought were fascist so these guys must be fascists to. They're in their National Trauma stage of the whole thing where everything that threatens them is fascist. The way thought occurs is a bit...weird. And there's no real way to explain it easily but I'll try. To know this you gotta know about the anatomy of the neurons: they consist of a cell body with the dendrites and a tail or Axom. At the end of that Axom is the Axom terminal where there's all the synapses. You also gotta know that there's both a voltage difference between the inside of the cell and the outside of the cell, and an ion concentration gradient from the inside to the outside. This is very important. What is also important to know is that there's little gates across the cell membrane that allow the transfer of ions into and out of the cell, some gated by chemicals and some gated by voltage. This is an OVERsimplification but it's sufficient a model to explain whats going on. So let's say a neurotransmitter diffuses from the synapses of another cell and enough neurotransmitters (let's say serotonin) interact with sufficient receptors on the dendrites. The receptors contact the chemical gates and the gates open allowing positively charged ions into the cell, spiking the voltage. If it's enough to cross a certain threshold, the voltage gates open in the local area of this ion concentration and open causing a spike in voltage, this is what we call an action potential. This causes a sorta..."wave" through the neuron from cell body down the axon to the axon terminal. It's like a Mexican wave with the gates opening due to both voltage and ion differentiation and then closing again after the ion concentration reverts back to normal. Once this Mexican wave reaches the synapses, a neurotransmitter is diffused into the next synaptic cleft and if it's sufficient enough concentration, the cycle repeats for the next in a sorta daisy chain fashion. After the neuron "Fires", it enters what's known as a "refractory period" where it can not fire again no matter what as the ion concentrations return to their old equilibrium: more negative inside than out. Now there's a lot more tricksy things like...mylienation of axons and so on and so forth, but the fact of the matter is the concept of neurons as wires is...kinda false: while there is electricity involved in their function, it's much more based on chemical concentrations changing down the line. Which brings me to the next point. You do not see things as they are, you see things as they were. You see the moment night becomes day as it happened when the information is received and registered by you, not as the dawn occurs in the distance. As Tyramon said earlier, light takes time to travel to places. Furthermore, 150m/s is pretty bloody fast, that can cover left to right of your brain in a fraction of a millisecond or two, your brain works pretty fast. Like a computer (Shameless Cognitivist Promotion here) Galliadurm and Lytaran |
The Murim-roused Protopia of Galliadurm Surprised I understood this (I'm not going to pretend I understood everything; but I understood enough), thank ye. o-o |
Hey, no problem! You asked a question and I sought to answer it as best I could! |
The Murim-roused Protopia of Galliadurm Time in University is paying off~. |
The Reborn Imperium of New Drachma Can anyone who has been, er, involved with the rp bring me up to date I wanna get involved again |
