The Emperial Space Agency has announced that they will be sending rockets to Overview Station in low Vesta orbit. Supplies will be sent as well as 4 Franconian Astronauts. This will be the Empire's first manned mission since 2033, when Franconian Astronauts first set foot on the moon. The mission ended unexpectedly as the rocket ship exploded midflight.This led to regulations of spacecraft and the end of privatization of the space travel industry. After three test flights, the ESA Franconian Dream is ready to travel to step towards continuous peace in the VA. The four astronauts are Franconians Leo Thorne, Redford Greedmallow, Rhea Drew, and Orosi Droganna (the first Franconian Native Tribesperson to be sent into space). This mission will last 6 months. In 3 months, three more Franconians will be named in taking their place following three months of preparation to be sent up. After they reach the station, the 4 astronauts will be up there for 6 months before coming back down to the surface. ESA has a list of people already that are in line to be sent up, but legally cannot tell the public until 3 months before the mission for safety of the astronauts. The Ft. Franco Police Department is issuing warnings to not follow or take pictures of the astronauts unless you are family of the astronauts or the press. Anyone caught taking photos of the astronauts will be fined 540 Astrons.

A group of supporters from the Restoration Party have staged a protest in front of the Bercolle State Assembly Building, calling for the legislature to refuse to recognise the election of Fabrizio Pellegrini as President of Sartoria. While state legislatures have no power to refuse recognition to federal authorities, the protesters have expressed a hope that enough pressure will be exerted by enough states to force Mr Pellegrini to desist from taking office. Roberto Chiellini, Speaker of the State Assembly, has said that Mr Pellegrini was lawfully elected and that there would be no sense in working against him.

Social Party State Leader Patrizia Gama, was more forceful in her reaction to the protests, saying that "it is unbelievable, highly reprehensible, and deeply disappointing, that we are seeing this level of discrimination against anyone, let alone against someone as distinguished as our President-Elect".

The strike slip fault has the tendency of having weak vestaquakes followed by stronger ones at least one week or less after. The National Vestaquake Society of Franconia has given a warning about tremors or quakes in the coming weeks and to even be prepared for a magnitude 6.5 to 7 [at worst] if the fault continues to slip. This region of the Empire hasn't seen a large quake like that since 2017. The United Mayoral Council (a council of all the mayor's of the western City-States) stated "6.9 million lives are at stake, but thanks to the vestaquake infrastructure projects that alert us on our smartphones, quake proofing buildings... We took our time. The City-States should be okay with minimal damage at a 7.8.".

It was announced today that the Majassan Holy Emperor has taken I’ll and has caused the issue of his successor to come into the forefront of political discourse.

Characteristic of his grandfatherly standing in the collective mind of the Empire, Basileus Leto led the Imperial response to the news wishing the Holy Emperor “A swift recovery and that the people of Majassa can rest well.” Basileus Leto also recalled the death of his own son and heir Markos in 2048 in a boating accident. “It’s with heavy heart that I must say I know that pain of loss. My being goes out to the Holy Emperor and his family at this most personal of times. The people of Majassa are strong and they will endure these difficult times.”

The response from the government of Archon Galanis was sympathetic in wishing a speedy recovery though more of the outpouring of support comes from the more monarchical elements of the Mydic Empire.

Breaking: Satellite imagery shows that the Empire has ample clouds over it making meteorologists wonder if yet another round of storms is on the way. This time, it could be dangerous. Storms will roll in to the City-States and the West Coast by Thursday. On Friday, rain will look heavy with possible flooding. Be aware because golfball sized hail and tornadoes may be possible. In the middle of the nation, from north to south, rain presenting itself to the westernmost part of the Central Empire by Friday, Saturday and Sunday, expect those storms to be extreme. This part of the nation is know [f]or spectacular lightning shows, but stay indoors as the threat for tornadoes will be at it's highest on Saturday. Moving to the Eastern part of the country, pockets of clouds will make way for only rain tomorrow, but rain is also moving in from the Valentian Ocean and pushing north. This system will merge with the massive system and will probably cause a major flooding event. Keep in mind that power could go out widespread. FEG&E will be on standby to restore power when the storm is over, alongside Filton Solar. The storm is slow moving and will move right over Insulae Cerula, 96% of Main Island, and all of the East Coast at about 8 mph. Expect maximum gusts of up to 110 mph. Following assessments made by the Bureau of Meteorological Sciences (BMS), a storm watch is in effect for the Paxus Principality and the entire East Coast from Mydia to Laconia. Following a tropical depression off the south-eastern coast for the last week the BMS has upgraded the storm to a category 2 hurricane named Ariane. The storm's sustained wind speed is 105mph with gusts exceeding 130. Shipping along the coast is being reduced ahead of the storm's expected Sunday landfall The storm is currently plotting a course that would make landfall between the cities of Mydare in the north, Lysopolis along the central east coast and Kynea in the south. Citizens are advised to evacuate areas outside the flood barriers and sea walls. On Saturday the BMS will issue an updated landfall projections as the models hone in on the likely landing site.

Already the Federal Emergency Management Bureau (FEMB) has cleared the way for assistance after landfall with everything from swift water rescues to downed powerlines and trees. Citizens of the Paxus Principality are also advised that another tropical depression has started forming in the wake of Hurricane Ariane further south but seemingly with a more clearly northward path. The 2nd and 3rd Fleets are being put to sea in order to deal with the storm better. Air delays and cancellations will be expected from Saturday likely through Tuesday with less delays thereafter depending on damage and location of the landfall.

The FEMB has also show predictions that the storm could bypass the coast and proceed either in a northward path towards the Paxus Islands or along the north coast of Mydia around into the Thalassic Sea. Other projections have it crossing a portion of the Laconid Peninsula and proceeding back out to sea southward. Should the storm linger flooding and landslides are possibilities and citizens should be prepared to evacuate if their local authorities recommend doing so. Hurricanes are rare in this part of the Cosmic Sea as the Mydic Empire is seen as relatively safe against tropical storms due to the ocean currents. When they do occur the Empire has been fortunate to only be hit by one category 3 storm in the last century though category 1 storms are becoming more common due to the long term effects of climate change.

With election day a month away, President Martha Prescott has been attending rallies throughout the Union. She's expected to have hit all 13 States before rounding out the election at her campaign headquarters in Central City in Heartland, State. From Central City just five years ago Martha Prescott, then Governor of Heartland, launched her first bid to become President of the Union in what would become a blistering campaign. Barbs were traded by the candidates from all four major parties but it was in the last debate that she squarely sold her idea of the Union to the public. The midterms in 2072 handed Martha a majority coalition in Congress which then allowed her to enact a broad reform of the Judicial system in favor of rehabilitation and a reform on sentencing for non-violent crimes.

Elsewhere members of her cabinet and those in the party loyal to her candidacy have fanned out across the Union and the airwaves to deliver a simple message, Martha Prescott is the right choice November 15th. Polls have Martha at 34% in the first round against her nearest challenger, Republican Martin Lassiter who is expected to net between 30-32%. Democrat Julienne Barclay is polling at a steady 20% while Green Libertarian candidate Paul Mulhouse has a appalling 4% after a series of gaffs. The second round however is expected to be a nail biter, Martha Prescott is ahead 51% to Martin Lassiter (R) at 49%. All of this comes after Martha Prescott had to see off an internal party challenger, Richard Benbrooke, the incumbent Governor of the State of Keystone. The primary inside the Union Party, which Prescott leads, was seen as a major internal rift and brought initial speculation that Martha Prescott wouldn't even be on the General Election ballot come November. After a series of scandals involving personal and business finances were brought to light, Martha Prescott was able to coast to victory over Benbrooke with nearly 90% of intra-party votes.

The Union Party and the Administration of Martha Prescott have both taken a hard line to that stance and claim that it is simply to remain competitive with similarly powerful nations.

A ceremony was held this morning at the University of Verale (UV) to formally open its annual Model World Society, also known as SOMUV. The ceremony had in attendance dignitaries such as University Rector Elena Girelli, Foreign Minister Maurizio Croce, and Sartorian Ambassador to the World Society Marco Vannelli. In his remarks during the ceremony, Ambassador Vannelli said that "participants will have an excellent opportunity to step in the shoes of diplomats from around the world, and tackle scenarios that exemplify the complex issues that we face in the World Society".

SOMUV dates back to 2026 when the UV School of International Relations conducted a simulation of the World Society Security Council among its fifth year students. The first edition, which lasted for two days, had the attendance of Patrizia Bertolini, then Sartorian Ambassador to the World Society, who presided over all of the sessions. Over the years the event has grown in scope and prestige, and these days it is a week-long event that features lectures from officials of the Foreign Ministry and the World Society and sessions of the various institutions that comprise the World Society. The core event is the three-day meeting of the Security Council, where delegates are presented with a fictional threat to international security and must pass a resolution to address it.

The event stands out this year for having the highest number of international students, 23 out of 75 participants, including international students from Mydia and Franconia. Tisseia Miolantis, 22, from Mydia, remarked that they are "thrilled to attend and to see a presence from students with different walks of life". Per the information provided by the SOMUV Organising Committee, the fictional scenario to be considered by the Security Council is a civil war in Sartoria, where a breakaway state gains control of a fictional nuclear arsenal and threatens to attack any country that supports the Sartorian Government. As is traditional, the Sartorian Ambassador to the World Society will preside over some of the sessions of the Security Council and later meet in private with the participating delegates to provide advice and comments on their performance.

Breaking: The Emperial Meteorlogical Society has issued tropical storm warning for the east coast as the two systems that merged did so over warmer waters. This would be the second tropical system in the region, the first being Ariane. When it develops fully, it will be known as "Tropical Storm Audrey". It will not be able to develop any more due to proximity to shore, but there is another, more developed system right behind that, we'll call it "Tropical Storm Barney". Audrey's path leads to Ft. Franco, bringing heavy rain and lightning, leading the ESA to ground all crews until further notice. Expect gusts of 65 mph, slight structural damage, and flooding. Once it moves on, it will march through the middle of the Main Island bringing more rain through the middle of next week. It will start to weaken as it moves over land and will break up as it pushes through Golden Cliffs. Moving on to Tropical Storm Barney, it has a potential to upgrade to a category 1 storm, but by the time it reaches shore, it will be likely at a category 2 or 3. Expect more flooding and evacuate immediately.
