I noticed that The Utes deck is in the top 500 (#486). Well done.

I have about 35 times as many cards but almost none of them are worth anything (in market value at least, I love a lot of them).

The Nomadic Peoples of The Utes

Sweet. Given how many nations there are and how few cards I have, I haven't bothered to check where I rank since I assumed it was low. Thanks for pointing it out.

No problem. I was just trying to look something up and your name caught my eye. :)

OK, just a short, easy debate this week:

"What is your opinion on the 'Positive Ticketing' campaign in Tempe, AZ?"

I, like many others, don't have enough time in the day to accomplish all of the tasks I have for myself. Having time taken away by being pulled over, regardless of the reason, is infuriating and embarrassing enough, but if the only reason is to give me a drink coupon, there isn't a level to how irate I'd be. Yes, the intention is good and yes, society needs to do a better job of pointing out good things instead of constantly focusing on the bad, but this is certainly not the way to do it.

Yay. I finally achieved the Anarchy classification. I would have been there sooner had I not briefly tried to tank my political freedoms and go for Benevolent Dictator.

And we're back this week with tech-oriented debate this time.
Also, if you didn't see last week's post, I would just like to offer my condolences to anyone who may have lost friends or family in the recent mass shootings in the US.

I personally don't get the hype over digital currencies, such as Bitcoin and the proposed Libra. I'm rather old-fashioned in that I prefer physical things like paper/coin money and movie/video game discs/cartridges to digital downloads and money I can't withdraw from a bank.

I have no problem with a company like Facebook creating its own currency mainly because using it would always be optional. Yes, Facebook could theoretically force users to convert dollars/other currencies into Libra if you want to access certain services, but continuing to use those services is a consumer's choice.

Well, break out the economic textbooks because this week we'll be discussing the stock market!

Unfortunately it's too difficult to guess, otherwise we'd all be short selling stock like in the movie The Big Short. Part of me hopes it happens sooner than later just so Trump takes the blame for it, but part of me hopes the economy is able to reverse course so my 401K doesn't take a nosedive like it did during the last recession.

As for what will cause it, I firmly believe the tariffs on imports from China are doing more harm than good. Farmers are hurting because China hasn't been buying goods in retaliation and the extra money paid for importing items is trickling down to consumers though higher product costs as there's no way companies are going to have their profit margins affected by tariffs when consumers can end up footing the bill.

The world should react in a responsible way with every able nation pitching in to curb the destruction of our natural resources, such as the rainforest, and do what it can to rebuild or replace what's been lost. Of course, that will never happen as politics and self interests will always take priority over the common good. It may not happen in my lifetime or even my children's, but some of the dystopian futures that so many movies and novels portray seem less like a radical stretch and more inevitable if the world continues to turn it's back to the major issues affecting all of us.

Unfortunately, I think we are living in a dystopian future. It's just not as exciting, shiny, or even as creative as some writers and visionaries predicted.

As to the topic, it would be nice if the United Nations (or a similar organization) were held hostage by certain nations' interests. This seems like the thing that a world organization should be able to take the lead on and prevent. We need to incentivize keeping the Amazon forest intact, but the only way to do that is to support the economies of places like Brazil and no country is willing to subsidize that. Hell, America doesn't even like subsidizing care for its own poor, so convincing them something is good for the world as a whole is an uphill battle.
