Dwern magic, sometimes colloquially referred to as "dream magic" or "Dwarven magic", is a highly instinctual magic, mainly specializing in transmutation. While Dwern can be mastered, its mastery requires nirvana or something similar rather than the typical study of magic; mastery of Dwern operates on a bell graph, where unpracticed users are capable of feats similar to that of a grand-master (highest tier), but novices and apprentices can struggle to cast any magic at all. (an example of this is the daughter of the 3rd Dwarven king of Tarkmakia, Dasha the Stabilizer, at the young age of 3 years old, transmuted her food and the entire dining hall into steel after a attempted poisoning.) This is mainly because Dwern magic can only be controlled naturally, so as Dwern is mastered control must first become artificial, and then natural. All dwarves are capable of Dwern magic, though to varying degrees of control and power, mainly based on emotional stability and imagination. The colloquial name of dream magic comes from both the fluid and surreal effects Dwern magic can have, but also from the fact that lucid and vivid dreams can cause Dwern magic to manifest in the real world, leading to predictably chaotic effects.
