M9 Command and Control Vehicle/ M9 Armored Command Vehicle

M9 COMMAND VEHICLE FAMILY

“Uninteresting is much safer.”

M9 CCV / M9 WAR RIG SPECIAL
Mobile Command, Communications, Electronic Support and Survivability Platforms

M9 CCV — COMMAND & CONTROL VEHICLE

ROLE:
Mobile command post, communications relay, electronic-support platform, reconnaissance coordination vehicle and emergency field headquarters.

EXTERNAL APPEARANCE:
The standard M9 CCV is intentionally designed to resemble an unusually large, expensive civilian expedition motor coach.

It carries little to no military marking while deployed covertly. Antennas, sensors, armor reinforcement and protected communications hardware are disguised within ordinary-looking bodywork, rooftop housings, tinted windows and service compartments.

To an uninformed observer, it is simply a very large American RV.

That is deliberate.

DIMENSIONS:

Length: 12.2 meters / 40 feet
Width: 2.6 meters / 8.5 feet
Height: 3.8 meters / 12.5 feet
Operational Weight: approximately 24 metric tons

CREW:

Vehicle Crew: 2
Mission Crew: normally 4–6
Maximum short-duration complement varies by configuration.

PROTECTION:

The M9 CCV is not an armored fighting vehicle and is not intended to exchange fire with Knightmares.

Protection is designed primarily against:

• Small-arms fire
• Shell and missile fragments
• Blast overpressure
• Urban debris
• Mine and roadside-blast effects within design limits
• Electronic attack
• Electromagnetic pulse effects
• Chemical, biological and radiological contamination

The vehicle incorporates run-flat tires, redundant electrical systems, automatic fire suppression, protected fuel systems and multiple independent communications pathways.

A direct hit from a Knightmare-scale primary weapon remains catastrophic.

Its primary defense is remaining unnoticed.

CONCEALED DEFENSIVE ARMAMENT:

All weapons remain hidden behind armored body panels during normal movement.

• 1 concealed retractable remote weapon station
- normally fitted with a .50-caliber heavy machine gun

• Concealed smoke / multispectral obscurant launchers

• Counter-drone electronic warfare system

• Directional communications jamming capability under authorized conditions

• Laser and radar-warning receivers

• Automated threat-cueing system

The M9's weapons exist to break contact, suppress immediate threats and escape.

They do not turn the vehicle into an infantry fighting vehicle.

COMMAND & COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEMS:

• 32 encrypted tactical radio networks under normal operating load
• Maximum emergency network capacity: 48
• Secure multi-band tactical radios
• Directional microwave communications
• Secure burst-transmission systems
• Two sandboxed satellite communications channels
• Line-of-sight mesh networking
• Civil emergency-band compatibility
• Portable emergency communications mast
• Low-profile redundant roof antennas
• Chassis-integrated emergency antennas
• Ruggedized internal servers
• Distributed data-storage architecture
• Tactical map and command display systems
• Friendly-force tracking
• Medical evacuation coordination
• Logistics tracking
• Authentication and command-network management

The M9 does not create information.

It organizes information supplied to it.

Incorrect reports remain incorrect reports.

RECONNAISSANCE / ELECTRONIC SUPPORT:

• Simultaneous processing of up to 12 high-resolution drone feeds
• Additional reduced-bandwidth reconnaissance feeds
• Passive detection of military radio emitters
• Direction finding
• Signal classification
• Limited electronic-support measures
• Localized defensive electronic warfare
• Counter-drone jamming
• Tactical network protection
• Encrypted data recording and after-action reconstruction

MISSION SUPPORT EQUIPMENT:

• Compact trauma-medical station
• Emergency medical supplies
• Folding crew bunks
• Small galley
• Water storage and purification
• Chemical toilet
• Independent climate control
• Secure equipment lockers
• Tool storage
• Spare communications equipment
• Auxiliary batteries
• Multi-fuel auxiliary generator
• Approximately 72 hours independent operation under normal command load

DESIGN PHILOSOPHY:

The standard M9 does not win battles by itself.

It allows everyone else to realize they are fighting the same battle.

M9 WAR RIG SPECIAL

ROLE:
Heavy mobile command fortress, breakout vehicle, battlefield communications node, emergency headquarters and protected fire-support platform.

The War Rig Special is the extreme-survivability member of the M9 family.

It retains the same fundamental concept as the standard CCV:

Look harmless until looking harmless no longer matters.

EXTERNAL APPEARANCE:

At first glance, the War Rig Special resembles an absurdly large luxury expedition RV built on an articulated-semi scale chassis.

Unlike a conventional tractor-trailer, however, the cab and rear body form a single integrated vehicle.

Its immense length is the first indication that something is unusual.

Almost everything else remains hidden.

Weapons retract beneath armored roof panels.

Machine guns disappear behind front bodywork.

Sensors collapse into apparently ordinary rooftop housings.

Smoke launchers are concealed behind cosmetic panels.

Electronic-warfare antennas mimic civilian communications equipment.

There are few or no visible military markings.

Until deployment, the War Rig Special looks less like a weapons platform than something owned by an eccentric millionaire with an unhealthy fear of campgrounds.

DIMENSIONS:

Length: approximately 22.5 meters / 74 feet
Width: approximately 2.9 meters / 9.5 feet
Height: approximately 4.2 meters / 13.8 feet

Combat Weight: approximately 50–52 metric tons, depending upon mission load

CREW:

Vehicle Crew: 2
Core Mission Crew: 6–10
Additional personnel may be carried temporarily depending upon command or evacuation requirements.

PROTECTION:

The War Rig Special is substantially more heavily protected than the standard M9.

Protection includes:

• Heavy ballistic armor
• Fragment protection
• Reinforced underbody
• Blast-resistant crew compartment
• Armored engine and power-system protection
• Protected fuel tanks
• Automatic fire suppression
• Redundant hydraulic systems
• Multiple redundant electrical buses
• Run-flat combat tires
• Central tire-inflation system
• NBC filtration and overpressure
• EMP-hardened electronics
• Spall liners
• Protected ammunition compartments
• Automatic damage-control monitoring
• Multiple emergency exits

It is built to survive ambushes long enough to break contact.

It is still not designed to stand motionless and trade fire with a dedicated Knightmare combat formation.

PRIMARY CONCEALED ARMAMENT:

All major weapons retract completely beneath armored panels during normal travel.

1 Χ 80mm Automatic Mortar System

Mounted within a protected roof compartment.

Used for:

• High-angle fire support
• Smoke
• Illumination
• Suppression
• Defensive fires
• Precision guided mortar ammunition when available

The mortar remains completely hidden until deployed.

2 Χ 40mm Bofors Automatic Cannons

Mounted together in a retractable armored roof installation.

The entire weapon assembly remains beneath the roofline during covert movement.

When raised, the mount provides heavy defensive fire against:

• Infantry
• Light vehicles
• Drones
• Low-flying aircraft
• Exposed Knightmare components
• Other immediate battlefield threats

The system is principally intended to clear a route and protect the command vehicle during withdrawal.

2 Χ Forward-Facing .50-Caliber Heavy Machine Guns

Mounted behind concealed armored nose panels.

The weapons fire directly forward and are intended primarily for:

• Ambush suppression
• Breaking roadblocks
• Defeating light vehicles
• Close defensive fire during emergency withdrawal

When stowed, no weapon barrels are visible.

ADDITIONAL DEFENSIVE SYSTEMS:

• Retractable close-defense remote weapon stations
• 7.62mm defensive machine guns where fitted
• Multispectral smoke launchers
• Infrared obscurant systems
• Laser-warning receivers
• Radar-warning receivers
• Counter-drone jammers
• Defensive electronic warfare
• Directional communications disruption
• Automated threat detection
• Sensor-cued weapon control
• Decoy and signature-management systems

Configuration varies according to mission.

SENSOR SYSTEMS:

• Retractable EO/IR surveillance mast
• High-definition day/night cameras
• Thermal imaging
• Laser rangefinding
• Radar warning
• Passive radio-frequency detection
• Electronic-support measures
• Drone-control stations
• Long-range battlefield observation systems
• Distributed external cameras providing near-360-degree coverage

When not required, major sensors retract into armored housings.

COMMAND & COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEMS:

The War Rig incorporates all standard M9 CCV capabilities with expanded redundancy and processing capacity.

Typical equipment includes:

• Multiple independent encrypted tactical networks
• Secure satellite communications
• Directional microwave links
• Line-of-sight mesh networking
• Battlefield data servers
• Redundant tactical databases
• Drone-control stations
• Electronic-support workstations
• Intelligence-analysis stations
• Large shared tactical display
• Command planning area
• Medical evacuation coordination
• Logistics-management systems
• Battlefield recording and after-action reconstruction
• Independent backup communications compartments

Unlike the standard M9, the War Rig can continue functioning as a command headquarters after significant physical damage.

INTERNAL FACILITIES:

The immense hull provides considerably greater internal capacity than the ordinary CCV.

Typical arrangement includes:

• Tactical Operations Center
• Communications center
• Electronic warfare section
• Intelligence workspace
• Drone-control stations
• Commander's station
• Crew quarters
• Folding bunks
• Galley
• Refrigeration
• Water purification
• Medical bay
• Trauma-treatment capability
• Equipment lockers
• Ammunition storage
• Workshop
• Spare-parts storage
• Damage-control equipment
• Independent auxiliary power
• Multiple battery banks
• Redundant generators
• Extended fuel storage

ENDURANCE:

Depending upon mission load, electrical demand and fuel carried, the War Rig can operate independently for several days without outside infrastructure.

The vehicle is designed around graceful degradation.

Losing one antenna does not eliminate communications.

Losing one generator does not eliminate power.

Losing one tactical display does not eliminate command.

Losing one weapon does not eliminate defense.

The crew is expected to continue operating damaged equipment until continued operation becomes impossible.

TACTICAL EMPLOYMENT:

The War Rig Special is not intended to lead an armored charge.

Its purpose is to survive when a command post suddenly finds itself much closer to the fighting than anyone intended.

During normal operations:

The weapons remain concealed.

The sensors remain low-profile.

The vehicle appears civilian.

The crew listens.

The computers work.

The radios talk.

And the War Rig attempts to remain deeply, profoundly uninteresting.

If that fails—

the panels open.

The sensors rise.

The smoke launches.

The guns appear.

And everybody who mistook the oversized American RV for something harmless receives an extremely rapid correction.

M9 CCV
A command post disguised as an RV.

M9 WAR RIG SPECIAL
The same idea, built for the moment the disguise stops working.
