Centuries ago, this world was ruled by humanity.
It was very similar to the 1700s in our earth, with monarchies fighting each other, gunpowder, innovation and exploration fueling the people.
But, a bright mind can be the most dangerous thing if left unchecked.
And exactly that happened, a mind, guided by the forces of Demons and Dark Gods, created a machine capable of uniting the realm of souls and the mortal realm.
This action broke the Veil between worlds, and unintentionally created the Rift, something not even the gods expected.
With Demons and the taint of the rift spreading, humanity fought well, yet, failed in their campaign against the impossible.
With 70% of humanity dead or tainted, the remaining humans fled and hid, fearing the death of their species.

This wasn't exactly what the gods had planned, if they had planned anything at all, yet it worked out in their favor.
With the realms now united, they could focus on their biggest objective, controlling the world and reshaping it in their image.
