Anti-World Assembly Elitism or, Why We Fight

Over the last year my eye for the multi-verse of Nationstates has grown and it is appalled at a very common failing, this should serve as a very important and powerful reminder why the World Assembly, the supreme legislative assembly of this game must have change, and why we must for that change, even if that means including or excluding ourselves from the system let this document inspire others in the hopes that people change their views of the World Assembly with this.

Let me explain by answering your questions:

What is the World Assembly?
The World Assembly better known as the WA, is the supreme legislative body of Nationstates, working in a sense of role play and world building, it is the successor to the United Nations which worked in similar ways. The WA is divided into two different bodies, the General Assembly and the Security Council, the former works to make world wide legislation that’s its members comply with, while the latter works to intervene in national and regional affairs. To keep it short the General Assembly or GA passes standard laws like, for example “x regulations on y” or “repeal: x regulations on y”, standard stuff basically. While the Security Council or SC, makes declarations to intervene in regional politics or to put the spotlight on nations/regions, for regions the SC can injunction (disabling the ability to convert from frontier to stronghold or vice versa), liberate the region (allowing defenders to come in) and they can also commend/condemn regions (the commend and condemn also works for nations) this puts spotlight on a nation/region these can be repealed their are also declarations which are statements that have no power.

How do I vote on this? To vote you must be WA member simply apply and then you will be sent an email to whatever account you registered with, you can have many nations but you cannot have multiple nations in the WA. As a member you can vote on resolutions but you cannot also endorse your fellow WA members who can in turn endorse you back, the more endorsements you have, the more chance you have to be WA Delegate, which is a regions representative in the WA, as delegate you have extra voting power, so if you have 10 endorsements then you have 11 votes now (people who endorsed you, plus your original vote of 1), who’s means that theoretically if you have WA Delegates nations with enough voting power who agree with your decisions, you could sweep the tides of a resolution simply because you don’t like it, and this happens a lot.

What are “WA Elites” and what is “Elitism” you speak of?
Since the dawn of the sites creation WA Delegates (particularly the delegates of the feeder regions) have done this. And while there’s nothing wrong with it, their have been frequent abuses of power and an ego that many of them have developed, which has led to many having disdain for these people who’s resolutions always get passed due to having “strong friends in high places” this lead to these people being named “WA Elites”, and often these people criticize others resolutions for simple errors that could be fixed if they just clarify what exactly needs to be done.

Is it still dangerous?
As an example I will take the recent (at the time of typing this) resolution on Condemning Sambuca. In this resolution high ranking members of Project Insurgency (and later Orcusa) tried to condemn a nation known as Sambuca, which has made questionable decisions over various regions over various alts, it was shutdown by “the elites” before it could even be voted on, and while I don’t have the full agreement, I actually engaged to people opposing this (one of whom was an elite) and they seemed to offer criticism but they never really seemed to provide much of an explanation until being asked. This a clear example why we must try to push back against this, if they can’t offer actual feedback then we must fight our own fights and build our influence hopefully so that we may try to push back for what we want.

How do we fight it?
By any means necessary. I type this statement as an “outsider” to the WA and while that does make my credibility seem low to others, I’ve seen first hand how the WA works from small glimpses and I don’t like it. As of the date of this being typed the top 10 positions for people with the most endorsements are held by The North Pacific. We must fight by doing what we can, do our research propose valid proposals, even then they may get shot down, but we’re gonna keep trying, we will for, our own cliques which will build up influence to counter this, if you want to take a “behind the scenes approach” then you can, you don’t need to join the WA to fight it, simply calling out when Elites or other people who put down those in the WA, is enough. If you are a governor reading this then please make your opinion on this clear, not to me specifically or anyone for that matter, but to yourself, you can declare it to others but be sure sure made up your mind on this.

"I still don’t see the issue what are we fighting?"
We are fighting a particular type of system while yes there are “elites” that don’t the way I’ve just said many do, and many “non-elites” also do so. Many people when arguing or defending what they’ve done use “fallacies”, as said by the Oxford English Dictionary: a fallacy is a false idea or belief, often one that is widely held. It is defined as a false way of thinking or an error in reasoning that makes an argument or belief invalid. It can also refer to a commonly held, yet incorrect, belief. And while this isn’t made by “elites” it’s common, many also tend to “put down” others often redirecting conversation to unrelated topics, to win, shorted handed ways and fallacies are not how we fight, and while it’s possible to make fallacies, and short handed ways try to avoid them. To put it in simple words, we’re fighting people in the WA who use short handed tactics and fallacies to rationalize their beliefs, we are also fighting those who put down others, for simple errors, and those who don’t offer feedback on what to do what this means if someone approaches you and you’re building a puzzle or writing an assignment, instead of actually offering feedback by saying what your doing wrong politely of course, they mock you or simply just say, your doing it wrong, but they don’t say what you’re doing wrong, they go on and act as if it’s fixed, that’s what we fight, things like that.

The fight must continue until we can establish a WA that is free and accepting and has people who are willing to actually correct their mistakes and help correct others mistakes.
