Icon fonts are one of the commonly used techniques that allows web-developers to add icons as scalable images that would also behave like normal text in terms of sizing, coloring, flow, etc. NationStates has a font for that too, it is used for icons in the top bar, left sidebar, regional menu, special N-Day and Z-Day cases and a few other places. Manually downloading or installing the font is not necessary, but here's the link for the curious: fontello/font/nationstates.woff2 (also available in woff, SVG, embedded-opentype (eot) and truetype (ttf) formats). Some of these icons may or may not be copyrighted, however most of them can be found in free generic icon fonts like FontAwesome.

Why is it important?

As these icons are a font that everybody visiting this site downloads and imports as a CSS font-face, in dispatches and regional World Factbook Entry you can use the [font] tag to add a silly mushroom . Since it's treated like text, it can be colored , resized , italicized , put in a link , and so on.

How do i use it?

Two easy steps:

1. Copy an icon from the table below as you would normally copy text. Pasting it anywhere will probably result in a square/rectangle much like this  - that's intentional, there's no set meaning for characters with these codes.

2. Put that character in the font block like this [font=nationstates][/font].
   

And there you go, boom .
