Focuses of RP

Welcome to our little abode! Diamond City is inspired as a formula-driven roleplay, players can play without direct admin oversight. We trust that players follow our guidelines and formulas for a more diverse, and challenging RP for the characters they develop over the course of a story.

Rules

Basic

1. // Respect and Etiquette

Be courteous to fellow players and try not to disrupt the RP's progress whenever possible. If you'd like to discuss something concerning the story, it's preferred to do so through private messages, or separate discussions.

Posting Out-of-Character is allowed, especially for new players, but try to keep it to a minimum.

If you plan on leaving an RP for whatever reason, please have the politeness to write yourself out, in-character. This is important, if you hadn't, any characters interacting with yours would be in limbo; you failed to give them a reason to progress without you.

2. // Godmoding or Metagaming

While we want everyone to enjoy crafting their own stories, there are some events in which it can go too far... remember, your character shouldn’t be able to do everything, they cannot obtain resources or objects without challenge/confrontations, and most importantly- your character should be able to fail!

Players are usually unaware when they are godmodding, veterans or staff will inform posters when it occurs. It can often be disrespectful and unfair. Godmoding is when players control content inproportionate to their abilities: e.g. controlling other people's characters without permission, performing consistently successful attacks or creating a seemingly invincible character. Players who godmode must correct their content or risk it being suppressed and their actions invalidated.

Metagaming, while similar, is a bit different. When a player metagames, they are reacting to events and characters using Out-of-Character knowledge: e.g. knowing another character's name despite your character never having met them or having any prior knowledge about them, even anticipating an enemy's next move by reading OOC content. OOC content is unavailable knowledge to in-game characters, and in no way should influence the way you RP.

3. // Be Reasonable and Realistic

For the RP to remain fair to all players, characters may not deviate from Fallout lore- please do not create any new Vaults or secret locations, have your characters equipped with experimental weaponry or sciences not present in the region you’re roleplaying to, build armies of robots to take over swathes of land, etc. If you feel a character, ability, event or action seems too ridiculous, chances are it probably is. If you can thoroughly explain how such a thing exists within the Fallout Universe, and cite examples, then it would be allowed.

4. // Character S.P.E.C.I.A.L. Traits and Game Formulas

It important to outline each in-game character, so you and all other players understand the capabilities of such character. Here is a helpful guide to creating your own sheet. Following a sheet makes a good reference for character growth, in that it will have a detailed backstory of the character's exploits over the course of it's RP lifetime- this helps create a fair RP environment. Everyone starts as low levels and advances over time.

Advanced

1. // Basic English is Your Friend

Proper grammar, spelling and punctuation are a very important element of roleplaying, further describing, conveying and communicating your intentions in a post.. We are not discouraging against any non-native English speakers, if you need to RP with a reading/writing app and need help, feel free to reach out to staff!

2. // Content is More Important Than Volume

People shouldn't be logging in to read a four-page English essay, but at the same time, they don't want to see briefly composed one or two sentences posts. Written content should show your character's reaction in the world around them, interacting with the people around them in as realistically possible. It is very important to put some prideful effort into your posts; make them believable and a lot easier to understand and react to. If your story doesn't convey much meaning or information, don't expect readers to take you very seriously or always reply to your actions in the RP.

3. // Every Action Has a Reaction

It's easy to disregard RP elements, but don't ignore it. Everything your character does will have a consequence or effect on the world around them. Roleplay with a modest amount of realism through your story

4. // Finish What You Started

If an event never reaches a conclusion, then it shouldn't considered canon; all the content written for that particularly story is effectively wasted. When an RP dies due to inactivity, or due to the creator's own carelessness, then it only serves to demotivate people from roleplaying altogether, especially if this becomes a regular occurrence. In short, if you happen to start an RP, have a good idea of how it progresses and see it to it's finale.

5. // Content Monopolies

Players do not have the exclusive rights to content that has been created for the Fallout Universe. If another players wishes to join as a member of a faction, there is nothing to speak against it but the story- e.g. a synth npc inspires someone to create a synth runaway character.

This also reflects to story monopolies: roleplay is collaborative, creating large scenarios in where only one player's characters are involved is completely counter-intuitive. Diamond City wants to encourage and involve as many players as possible, so refusing other players to cooperate on a particular story or plotline is irresponsible conduct.

Terminology

When posting on the RMB, remember...

Out of Character (OOC): Conversation between players when they are speaking as themselves, and not the in-game characters they've created. While posting on Discord or the RMB, players can display OCC text inside (parenthesis) or including the "OOC" tag.

In Character (IC): Text used when the RP characters are speaking, usually between "quotation marks".

Thoughts: Used when a RP character is in thought, and not actually conveying said thoughts into spoken words. This is portrayed by italicized text.

How Your Occupation and History Influence Gameplay

Everyone should focus on creating their own content, unique to them. This puts them in control of their story from the very beginning, and a general idea of how it ends. Often such, Character Sheets help track the statistics behind a character's progress, but what's just as important is the initial concept of why a character is in this position, their background.

Here's some inspiration to quickly start a new character; each theme has a brief description of what their character would do, and the prospective skills that would come with that background.
Histories do not add additional choices, they only give a reason behind your starting two!

Brotherhood Wannabe - Fight with energy weapons and power fists. Join the Brotherhood of Steel. Wear power armor, but absolutely do not degrade yourself by using lowly salvage. // use the Science! & Commando traits

The Great Doctor - Always aid those in need. // use the Booster Shot & Herbalist traits

Minuteman - Ammo stashes are always a good idea! // use the Scrounger & Home on the Range traits

Gunslinger - Wear cowboy hats. You're upfront and don't mince words, if you're there to kill someone you get right to it. Scotch and whiskey are your drinks of choice, and you like your drinks. // use the Gunslinger & Close Quarters traits

23rd Century Monk - Using guns is against your religion, and you are very devout. You believe in a holistic approach (food) is always preferable to traditional medicine. // use the Grim Reaper's Sprint & Paralyzing Palm traits

Idiot Savant - Bad things that scary or confusing! Loud noises NO! Talk little because people laugh at you! Pet da cute moe rats and lizads unless dey bite you. // use the Wasteland Warlord & Pit Fighter traits

Junkie - If you are ever sober, make your first priority getting chems at any cost. Kill, steal, sell the clothes off your back, you need your fix. // use the Infiltrator & Party Boy traits

High Roller - Let it ride, either you win or come home with nothing. Buy in excess, it's party city- live a little! // use the Coin Operator & Gift of Gab traits

Big Game Hunter - You'll communicate with the locals - even... ghouls, but touching them with an ungloved hand is beneath you. Common riff-raff like raiders are demeaning to look at, let alone aid. Rifles are the most efficient and elegant ways to kill. The bigger and more threatening the prey, the more glory. Anything can be a meal while on the hunt! // use the Sniper & Animal Friend traits

Hot-Blooded - You commonly beat people with pipes, tire irons, baseball bats, and shovels. Don't accept nuthin' from NOBODY! Why buy when you can make, unless you're buying supplies to make stuff that is. // use the Wasteland Warlord & Jury-Rigging traits

The Compensator - Only use the biggest guns, and the heaviest armor. Constantly strike out with the ladies. // use the Size Matters! & Commando traits

Atomic Liberace - Be as vibrant as possible, keep your weapons and armor in the best of conditions! // use the Atomic! & Nuclear Anomaly traits

The Suit - Your name is a single letter, and only wear the finest business attire. Make profit by any means necessary! // use the Fortune Finder & Wasteland Whisperer traits

Vault Boy - Make people believe you are helping when you're just using them to achieve your own goals. Build your success on the backs of others, and remember to always keep smiling! Also, you were raised in a vault, or something like that. // use the Never Venture Alone! & Computer Whiz traits

Mr. Untrustworthy - Assume that everyone is after you, they want what you have, because chances are they do. // use the Street Thief & Light Step traits

Smarty-Pants - I'd flex my brain if I could, and then you'd be sorry! // use the Comprehension & Nerd Rage traits

Killer Queen - Stick to dynamite and laser beams. // use the Meltdown & Bloody Mess traits

Homewrecker - Whenever you feel close to an NPC, break into their home and take all their valuables. If you're caught, stab or beat the target to death. // use the Infiltrator & Booster Shot traits

What Inspires Your Character,

An important factor, in any RP, is to develop characters with eventual goals. They don't have to be well-defined, and this isn't a "where do you see yourself in five years" circumstance- what does your character aspire to become or do? In the wasteland, time is of the essence and life expectancies short, strive to be the best in what you do- or everyone will forget your name!

Below is a brief list of affirmations to get you started, these should help inspire the future goals you'd like to set for your characters.

I live for today, it doesn't matter how I get there.

Happiness is a choice. To get my own, I must take others.

I am a powerhouse; I am indestructible.

My ability to conquer challenges is limitless... with the right gear.

I think and act positively so everyone around me feels the same.

My fears of tomorrow simply melt away.

I radiate beauty, charm, and confidence.

Many people look up to me and recognize my value; I am admired and feared.

Everything that is happening now is for the ultimate good.

I am guided by a whisper in my ear, it tells me only bad things.

My body is dying, but my mind is brilliant.

I am not only the architect of my life, but of others as well.

Here's an Example...
A character following the "Everything that is happening now is for the ultimate good." philosophy understands the negativity of the world, and that perhaps suffering now will lead to a generous fortune later. Maybe this includes the Brotherhood of Steel, they're founded upon the original ideal that technology is corruptible and manipulative, and when the bombs fell that freed society.

A World of Constant Turmoil,

Where Do You Stand?

There is plenty of societies present in the Wasteland... from towns that build themselves around a nuclear bomb, or a hidden group of scientists engineering look-alike human beings- yeah, there's a little something for everyone. Here's a List of Factions to be encountered throughout the Fallout Universe.
Do be weary of your character's actions, as characters can develop reputations towards factions and groups that influence gameplay - e.g. bad relationship with Minuteman, less willingness from Boston's local settlements, raiding a Legion convoy in the Midwest will paint a huge target throughout the territories.

Don't feel limited by what societies think of you, become inspired by it when writing your characters, as they can be either hurtles or opportunities- maybe you're even a member! Don't forget about family or possible rivalries, they help contribute towards exciting content!

Combat Overview

I got a rock - Charlie Brown

The Fallout Universe is incredibly hostile, so it's important for characters to develop traits, skills and acquire equipment to confront it. Traits, also know as your S.P.E.C.I.A.L. levels, help determine your effectiveness through various "checks" - tests of success for various actions. Skills are more advanced, they increase the effectiveness of your character's checks, and expand roleplaying opportunities. Lastly, equipment affects battle sequences, food/drink and healing, details below.

Trading and Purchasing Overview

The world is a stage.

Just like combat and player actions, when bartering character's are confronted with charisma checks. Players may adjust the value of items and more as it pertains to their story, but their success rate depends on a select formula. This includes rolls for intimidating, persuasive or seductive actions.
