Vancouvian Success: A Propagandic Look into a Prosperous Nation

Vancouvia pursues success through the following methods and advantages:

1. Attacks against unemployment across all fronts
  • A very high retirement age. A focus on the elderly and handicapped working in occupations that suit them.

  • Matching and guiding youth towards their most compatible careers, and incentivizing them to do them. Dis-incentivizing frivolous or sparse career choices. A low emphasis on the arts.

  • Government advocacy in matching employers with employees through the VOICE site.

  • Suitable placement in government jobs for those who are chronically unemployed.

  • A predominantly service based economy which allows a wide variety of telecommuting opportunities.

2. Attacks against waste and inefficiencies

  • An educational system that emphasizes internships and apprenticeships over college education. A culture that values skill and character over a degree.

  • A relatively small difference in social classes, and accessible upward mobility.

  • A highly progressive personal income tax rate and a high inheritance tax. A social stigma against lavish purchases.

  • Encouragement of sports and entertainment that have positive effects or develop usable skills. The illegalization of sports deemed wasteful such as golf. An emphasis on teamwork and collaboration.

  • Required arbitration, and a small legal industry.

  • A culture that rejects aestheticism for functionality. Emphasizing comfort and thus efficient output over formality.

  • A culture that widely rejects racism and sexism.

3. A government system that works

  • Active refreshment of a centralized group. Achieving office through merit and losing office through a lack thereof.

  • Permanently and constantly in session, Senators work regular hours just like an average citizen.

  • Transparency and accessibility.

  • An aggressive collection of information, enabling the best possible choices to be made.

  • A strict separation of church and state.

  • Actively rooting out corruption, bribery, and lobbyism.

4. Prudent financial sense

  • The achievement of little or no national debt, allowing negligible interest payments.

  • Wide-scale investments into infrastructure, especially transportation.

  • An urban and highly densely populated country, reducing travel and shipping costs.

  • Minimizing information asymmetry, adverse selection, and moral hazard whenever possible.

  • An immigration policy that recruits the best and brightest throughout the region.

  • Encouraging local and foreign investment with a low corporate tax and a highly trained workforce.

  • The gradual scaling down of the military: a shift from a formal army into small highly trained squads, and the usage of robotic weaponry and equipment.
