4th Parliamentary Election

After the Supreme Court ruled against an order by Prime Minister John Stophoe to enlist all orphans in the military, Deputy Prime Minister John Leswig announced that he no longer has confidence in the Stophoe Administration, forcing an election.
Leadership Conventions
Most Leadership Conventions took place on December 19, 2020.
Christian
With the new Christian uprising in Hopal the leaders of that uprising formed a political party, reviving the Christian Party. They unanimously nominated the leader of the uprising the Priest of Christ's Church in Hopal Kemori Silfern. The party ran on a platform of making Christianity the official state religion, and making everyone convert to it.
Civil Rights
The leader of the Civil Rights Party Lena Griskoi faced many challenges as she tried to be renominated as the Leader of Civil Rights Party and gave into many demands. The final platform of the Civil Rights Party was for everyone to have equal rights, and to be able to do whatever they want, the reformation of the prison system, and the independence of Hopal from Grey county.
Independence
Prime Minister John Stophoe was unanimously renominated to be the leader of the Independence Party. He ran on a platform of Hopalian independence, and Hopal being a strong nation on the world stage.
Integration
Two candidates ran for the leadership of the Integration Party. Enrico Duere, the leader in the last election, and Peter Hippos, a business owner and Member of Parliament for West-Southwest. Duere ran on a platform of peace with Grey county with economic prosperity, while Hippos ran on a platform of Capitalism.
1st Ballot: Duere-55% Hippos-45%
Liberal
Three candidates ran for the leadership of the Liberal Party, John Leswig, the leader in the last election and Deputy Prime Minister under John Stophoe and Jerry Manion, Retired Captain Jason Holloway, Member of Parliament for Vangouse, and Liberal Critic for Defence, and Barbara Lambdon, Minister of Education under Jack Nicholls and Harrison Reid. Leswig ran on a platform of independence for a Democratic Socialist country, Holloway ran on a platform of the military and spreading democracy around the world, and Lambdon ran on a platform of peace.
1st Ballot Holloway-12% Lambdon-38% Leswig-50%
John Leswig would eventually be nominated, as Jason Holloway joined the Independence Party, and Barbara Lambdon created her own party.
One Leadership Convention took place on December 20, 2020.
Peace
After being defeated in the leadership convention Barbara Lambdon would leave the Liberal Party and make her own party, the Peace Party. The party would nominate her, and she would run on a platform of peace at all costs.
Campaigning
Campaigning begun on December 21, 2020, this campaign season was a little more low-key than elections of the past, due to the War for independence. Prime Minister John Stophoe didn't campaign that much as he was focused on his work, fighting for independence, he would occasionally come out and meet soldiers, and give speeches from his office, but nothing much. Lena Griskoi would attend rallies/protests and give loud fiery speeches in front and large crowds of like minded supporters. Kenmori Silfern mostly led the Christian uprising and gave speeches leading the rebellion. John Leswig mostly gave speeches online through social media, and stayed home most of the time. Barbara Lambdon would give speeches from her home calling for people to calm down. Enrico Duere met with Grey Countian soldiers trying to tell the Hopalian people that they weren't so bad. But most Hopalians weren't very interested in the campaigning as they were focused on winning the war and independence.
Debates
There were three debates this election season.
December 21, 2020-Fighting For Independence
The first debate was about Hopalian independence from Grey county, all party leaders except Kenmori Silfern and Enrico Duere attended. Prime Minister John Stophoe started by saying that he had fought and continues to fight for independence and he has committed himself to that cause. John Leswig objected saying that he was too slow, and was giving in proposing other countries control Hopal. Stophoe responded by saying that we needed to be pragmatic, and garner support, and that blindly fighting would end in failure. Barbara Lambdon interjected saying that the Hopalian way of life was peace, and that it did no good fighting, and killing off our citizens. John Stophoe responded by saying that doing nothing won't get us anywhere. Lena Griskoi stayed surprisingly quiet during the debate, saying that Hopal should choose its future.
December 23, 2020-Hopal on the World Stage
The second debate held on December 23, 2020 and was about Hopalian foreign policy on Hopal's position on the world stage. All party leaders except Kenmori Silfern and Enrico Duere attended. Prime Minister John Stophoe started by saying that Hopal needed to stand up for democracy around the world and spread democracy by any means possible. John Leswig responded by saying that it was Prime Minister Stophoe that signed away Hopalian foreign policy, and independence, and asked how they could do these things without independence. Stophoe fired back by saying that it was Leswig who first signed away Hopalian independence, and that he negotiated a better deal for Hopal. Lena Griskoi interjected by saying that Stophoe ordered all orphans to enlisted in the military to defend so called Hopalian interests and principles, and she said that you could be next if he was reelected and that Hopal should focus on itself. Barbara Lambdon agreed by saying that Hopal should be the peacemakers of the world. Stophoe replied to both saying that Hopal was built on the basis of helping others around the world, and that Hopal can't abandon that principle now.
December 25, 2020-Hopalian Policy at Home
The last debate was focused on domestic policy, all leaders except Kenmori Silfern and Enrico Duere attended. Prime Minister John Stophoe started by saying that he would expand Hopal's economy, and further trade, and opportunities for Hopalians but didn't give much in terms of specifics. John Leswig responded by saying that Hopalians needed their country back in order to do all of these things, and that he would fight for independence at all costs. Lena Griskoi interjected by saying that getting their country back for Hopalians meant greater personal autonomy and civil rights, and that Hopalians wanted to do whatever they wanted. Barbara Lambdon agreed saying that Hopalians should live in peace, and that she would provide funding for Hopalians and government programs.
Results
650 seats, 326 needed for a majority.
This election was harder to predict than most, due to different interests, and that this election was much less regionalized. But most polls where right in predicting that the Independence Party would win a majority, despite challenges from both the Liberal and Civil Rights Parties. The Independence Party won 398 seats, the Civil Rights Party won 188 seats, the Liberal Party won 56 seats, the Peace Party won 6 seats, the Christian Party won 2 seats, and the Integration Party won 0 seats.
Inauguration
The Inauguration of the 4th Parliament of Hopal, and the Second John Stophoe Administration took place on Monday December 28, 2020.
