The Democratic State of Oralas Latonds

1. Opening Message/Statement

I have decided to run for the Senate in this election as an Independent.

For those who didn’t know, I left UFN politics just 2 months ago to focus on other things. However, over these last few weeks, activity in the region has been decimated. I have realised that we need everyone we can get to keep the region going and I hope that is what I can offer to you all.

I have a long history with this region. I have served as a devoted citizen since the region began, striving for reform, to implement change and to allow more people to become involved. It has saddened me to see the region end up in this state, a state of paralysis.

However, it is not all doom and gloom. I see a bright future ahead of the UFN, a future of a thriving community working together. But there’s a huge bridge to build to get there. A bridge that I can help to build, but I need your vote to do this,

2. What do you see as the biggest problem for the UFN and how can it be solved?

The biggest problem that faces the region currently is recruitment and retention. These have been huge problems since the region began; problems that face almost every region on NationStates. There is not one way to fix these, but with my dedication, perseverance and love for the UFN I can do my bit to help. I am a regular recruiter, and have created the step-by-step guides to help new nations get involved in recruitment. With regards to retention, I consistently welcome new nations on the RMB, and I was responsible for creating all our government dispatches detailing how the region works – helping to increase our retention on-site.

3. Are you a member of a political party? If so, what does your party stand for? If not, why have you decided not to run for a political party?

I am not a member of a political party. I wholeheartedly agree with Owswaldia that partisanship is a burden towards our goals and as Independent I firmly believe I am in a better place to make important decisions. You can be assured I will make decisions for the betterment of the region, not for the betterment of a political party).

4. If you are successfully elected to the Senate, what legislation will you write and propose?

Prime Ministerial Elections and the Senate - I believe that the Prime Minister should be elected separately to the Senate and the Executive should be separated from the Senate. The Senate, under these plans made up of 9 members, should be lead by an elected Speaker. The Prime Minister should be elected at the period between two Senate elections, and must appoint the Great Offices of State, who may be any citizen in the region - but must be approved by the Senate.

The simplification of the Executive - removing the long, needless branches of government. Instead, each branch of government will be led by the Great Officer of State (Prime Minister, Foreign Secretary, RP Secretary, Chancellor and Home Secretary) who can then appoint any aides to help with their constitutional function.

New Embassies - the Foreign Office should constantly be searching for new embassies and forming interregional relationships. Only meaningful embassies should be created. For each embassy achieved, the Foreign Office should encourage citizens from that region to join our region as waivered citizens - this should improve our recruitment and activity problems and help to develop strong regional relationships.
Roleplay - The RP aspect of the region should be severely simplified, as well as completely separated from the IC aspect of our region - the proposed integration should be prevented.

Senate Requirements - A Senator should send at least 200 recruitment telegrams during their term, and should also become Foreign Diplomats.

Judicial Reform - I support the upcoming proposals of Judicial Reform by Owswaldia.

5. Do you think we should reinstate a Presidential role into our system? If so, what would be its function? If not, why do you not approve of this?

The Presidential role proposed by Spaa has no function in the region. Unless I see good reason to re-introduce it, along with evidence that it will help the region, I will not support this.

6. Would you prefer a bicameral legislature, as opposed to our current unicameral legislature?

We have attempted a bicameral legislature in the past and due to our low population levels it has never worked. Whilst it could be beneficial in the future, as we have greater representation, now is not the time to make a change like this.

7. How do you think our economic problems can be solved?

Our economic problems are startling. I think an element of simplification is necessary; this always helps with retention. We also need to make the economic system more engaging and integral in the day to day running of the region. Perhaps, introducing deposits for elections as Owswaldia suggests.

8. Do you intend to get involved with recruitment during your term? What do you think needs to be done to improve recruitment and retention?

I am a dedicated recruiter and I aim to send at least 1000 telegrams, whether I’m elected or not. See question 2 for more information.

9. If you are elected, do you intend to register interest in becoming a Great Officer of State? If so, which role would be best suited to you?

In the past I’ve served as Prime Minister and Home Secretary. If I am elected, I would be delighted to hold any of the Great Offices of State. However, I would like to try the role of Foreign Secretary – Foreign Affairs are integral to our future on the world stage and I hope to further this goal.

10. Why should people vote for you, instead of your opponents?

In the past I have proven that I am a dedicated member of the region, taking part in almost every event and election and having run for almost all elected positions.

A vote for Oralas Latonds is a vote for the future of the UFN.

1. Opening Message/Statement

Our region is facing an existential crisis. Population numbers are steadily decreasing. Political activity and engagement are at an all-time low. We are haemorrhaging members.

This cannot go on.

We need change. We need it now.

In the one and a half years that this region has existed, I’ve seen it go through ups and downs, peaks and troughs. Now, though, it feels different. Unless we take action now, we’ll pass the point of no return and our region will die a slow, painful death.

The current government is trying valiantly to keep the region above water. It’s not working, and our current trajectory has us on track to sink.

This is why I am today announcing my candidacy for the Senate.

After a four month break from legislative and executive politics, I have determined that I must return. I am now asking you to trust me to take the region and take it to new heights.

2. What do you see as the biggest problem for the UFN and how can it be solved?

The biggest problem for the UFN is the lack of activity. This has wide-reaching causes and effects across the government and the region. The economy needs to be executed better. Foreign policy needs to be devised and executed better. Domestic policy needs to be devised and executed better. There is no single solution to this, nor is there a simple one. I have a list of policies to use as a starting point, which can be found in my answer to Q4.

3. Are you a member of a political party? If so, what does your party stand for? If not, why have you decided not to run for a political party?

I am not a member of a political party. I believe that the reform and good governance this region so sorely needs and deserves can only be hindered by partisanship. By remaining independent, I can focus on solving the important issues, and cooperate with all members of the Senate.

4. If you are successfully elected to the Senate, what legislation will you write and propose?

I don’t know if it will be legislation or in the form of EOs, but I will be implementing the policies:

In order to turn the tide on the decline our region is seeing, I will be proposing the following policies:

Economic Policy

Our economy, while a great idea, has been executed poorly. The incentives to earn money are not enough. If elected, I will be proposing:

- Deposits for Senate elections, to be paid either by the individual standing or their party.

- Party membership fees, requiring all political parties to charge for membership, including to cover for election deposits.

- Introducing fees to post in election-campaigning, to replace the current slowmode.

- To put pressure on the EPC to be constantly evaluating how the Treasury can improve not just the economy itself, but economic activity.

Foreign Policy

- To instruct the Foreign Office to open commissions, tasked with researching other regions and providing the Home Office with new ways to improve the region and reverse the decline.

- To actually begin military activities of the UFNSA, including the creation of a commission to investigate whether we should be defenders, raiders, independent or non-aligned. This will include constant oversight of the Defence Minister to ensure that adequate activities are taking place.

RP Policy

- To create a non-partisan commission on Roleplay to determine how best to get it going again.

Judicial Policy

- To complete and propose a comprehensive judicial reform bill, including the introduction of civil cases to make the economy more exciting.

Civil Service Policy

- To support a bill expanding the service in order to prevent executive fatigue, so that ministers can focus on policy rather than administration.

- To establish a commission tasked with investigating whether we should have an offsite forum for official matters.
Recruitment Policy

- To introduce a Senator mandate, a minimum number of recruitment telegrams that Senators must send in a term in order to run for re-election.

- Introducing rewards for every telegram sent.

5. Do you think we should reinstate a Presidential role into our system?

This is an issue that is irrelevant to my campaign and my platform. This is a matter of finer policy, and my term in the Senate will be almost entirely focussed on reversing the decline and restoring activity.

6. Would you prefer a bicameral legislature?

See my answer to Q5, but I also do not think that we are currently in a position where bicameralism is tenable.

7. How do you think our economic problems can be solved?

See Q4

8. Do you intend to get involved in recruitment, and what needs to be done to improve recruitment and retention?

Yes, and I will be introducing a requirement for all Senators to recruit a certain amount. See Q4 for more of my policies regarding recruitment.

9. If elected, do you intent to register interest in becoming a Great Officer of State?

I believe the best way for me to revive this region to return to the Prime Ministership.

10. Why should people vote for you?

Three words:

Experience
Policies
Action

Oralas Latonds, Pasad, Turjakistan, and Weddasin

Spaa

An inactive economy . An unstable government. A tanking population . Our we really in the position to want to see what more the MLP have to offer.

The Currant government have presided over one fo the most unsettled , declining and frankly tragic UFN terms in UFN history. How can we as responsible UFN citizens prop up this government has let this decline happen.

Political stability is something newcomers seek to the region and enables growth. 4 prime ministers , 2 home secratarys , 2 RP secratarys ; does this show stability? The answer is abundantly obvious. No.

There needs to be chaneg and there needs to change now.

Solidarity is a new party. A party for change , made up of two from the succsesful CFF period ,one from a steady start to the MLP and two newcomers. Perfect for the future. We have solidarity with you , the average UFN voter that this region deserves better. A new party. A better party. Solidarity.

Policies will be released in next message.
