Has anyone else noticed many member nations of the Union have ceased to exist? We've gone from ranking 46th most nations to 49th in couple of days. I truly love this region, but it feels like it might be dying.

The UDS is far from dying. CTEs will always happen, some hits are massive and some aren't. If you're interested in helping the Union recruit folks, then apply for Citizenship and then apply for the Census Ministry to help us!
