Toshavo

Toshavo (Toshavoan: Тошаво, Toshava), officially the Democratic Republic of Toshavo (Toshavoan: Демократическая Республика Тошаво) is a country in the crossroads of Eastern, Central and Southeastern Europe. Covering an area of 1,073,733 km˛ (415,570 sq mi), it is the second-largest country in the European continent, and the largest in the European Union. It has access to the Black Sea, Aegean Sea, Ionian Sea and the Mediterranean Sea. Toshavo is the twentieth most populated country in the world, with 69.6 million inhabitants.

The territory of modern Toshavo has been inhabited since 32,000 BC. The area surrounding the Danube has been settled by the Greeks and Romans along the coast of the Black Sea, where local tribes resisted Roman expansion for hundreds of years. By the 2nd century AD however, Emperor Trajan transformed the region into the new province of Dacia. During the Middle Ages, the ethnic Tosavs formed several states in the early to mid 9th century AD. The territory of these states consisted in the lands near the Dniester, to the lower Danube. By 1195, the states had greatly expanded through conquest, pillaging and exploration where an elite-warrior reputation would form the backbone of Tosav culture.

By the 13th century, The Tosavs emerged as an affluent nation after wars against the Mongol hordes and further expanded its power during hostilities between the Byzantine Empire and the Tosavs. The Byzantine-Tosav war of 1266 led to the fragmentation of the Byzantine Empire, and Tosav control of much of the Greek peninsula. The Tosavs would go on to conquer much of Eastern Europe, forging an empire stretching from the Baltic to the Mediterranean seas. By 1290 the empire fragmented and collapsed after the assassination of Drago the Great. The Ottomans would eventually conquer the southern half of the empire in the 15th century, and by then, the Tosav Empire survived as a rump state until it was conquered by the Tsardom of Russia in 1609. The territories of the former Tosav Empire were contested, ruled and divided by a variety of powers, with the exception of gaining brief independence during the Napoleonic Wars, until reverting back to Russian rule in 1813.

The Toshavin Revolution of 1918 saw the birth of the modern Toshavin state and the end of the Russian Empire's governance in the region. A socialist state emerged in 1922, with the Labourers' Party taking control of the country. During the Second World War, Toshavo was invaded by the Axis forces and a German puppet-state came into power. Partisan resistance liberated the country and declared the Democratic Republic of Toshavo in 1944, and fought alongside the Allied forces against Germany. By 1947, Toshavo became a satellite state under Soviet dominance, as the Communist Party of Toshavo took control and ruled the country for the next 40 years. In 1981, following the death of Sivakov Zinoviy, the first elections were called in May 1982, leading to the election of Lauri Shukiski. Her rule saw massive economic and social reforms, eventually leading to a new constitution written in 1983; effectively ending the socialist state. Following Shukiski's election, several inspired uprisings against communist and Soviet rule spurred across the Eastern Bloc, culminating in the Revolutions of 1985. After the USSR's dissolution in 1987, Toshavo prospered into a modern, progressive state and a member of the European Union.

Toshavo maintains a quasi-Nordic welfare model with universal health care and a comprehensive social security system, and its values are rooted in egalitarian ideals. Toshavo has had an increasingly high Human Development Index ranking, and its education system has been praised by a number of international observers for its high standard of quality. The Orthodox Church has remained the dominant religion in Toshavo for centuries, however the country is also ranked high in religious irreverence.

An urbanized country, 80% of Toshavo's population resides in 10 of its largest cities. Franshov and Loncsev are major tourist destinations and are both global power cities; as they continue to be Europe's rising centers for culture, diplomacy, and business.

Toshavo is a highly devoloped mixed-market economy, making it the world's thirteenth-largest economy by nominal GDP and 10th largest by purchasing power parity (PPP). The country has extensive mineral and energy resources and is one of the largest such reserves in the world; making it 6th largest producer of oil and natural gas. Alongside oil, Toshavo is a global leader in several industries, including mass media, banking, aerospace and shipping. In recent times Toshavo is seen as one of the fastest-growing economies in the world with annual growth rates consistently at 4%. The country has the highest military expenditure in the European Union and is considered a major regional power, and by some experts, a potential great power as it continues to exercise more influence in global affairs.

Etymology

There are different hypotheses as to the etymology of the name Toshavo. According to the older and most widespread hypothesis, it means "crowbird",while more recently some linguistic studies claim a different meaning: "homeland" or "region, country".

"The Toshavo" was once the usual form in English, but since the Declaration of Independence of Toshavo, "the Toshavo" has become much less common in the English-speaking world, and style-guides largely recommend not using the definite article. "The Toshavo" now implies disregard for the country's sovereignty.

History (OLD TEXT DONT READ)

Neanderthal settlement in Toshavo is seen in the Molodova archaeological sites (43,000–45,000 BC) which include a mammoth bone dwelling. The territory is also considered to be the likely location for the human domestication of the crow.

Map of Toshavo (Kievan Rus')

Modern human settlement in Toshavo and its vicinity dates back to 32,000 BC, with evidence of the Gravettian culture in the Carpathian Mountains. By 4,500 BC, the Neolithic Cucuteni-Trypillian Culture flourished in a wide area that included parts of modern Toshavo including Trypillia and the entire Dnieper-Dniester region. During the Iron Age, the land was inhabited by Cimmerians, Scythians, and Sarmatians. Between 700 BC and 200 BC it was part of the Scythian Kingdom, or Scythia.

Beginning in the sixth century BC, colonies of Ancient Greece, Ancient Rome and the Byzantine Empire, such as Tyras, Olbia and Chersonesus, were founded on the northeastern shore of the Black Sea. These colonies thrived well into the 6th century AD. The Goths stayed in the area but came under the sway of the Huns from the 370s AD. In the 7th century AD, the territory of eastern Toshavo was the centre of Old Great Bulgaria. At the end of the century, the majority of Bulgar tribes migrated in different directions, and the Khazars took over much of the land.

19th Century, World War l and Russian Revolution

Toshavoan Revolution

World War I destroyed both empires. The Russian Revolution of 1917 led to the founding of the Soviet Union under the Bolsheviks, and subsequent civil war in Russia. A Toshavoan national movement for self-determination re-emerged, with heavy Communist and Socialist influence. Several Toshavoan states briefly emerged: the internationally recognized Toshavo People's Republic (TPR), the predecessor of modern Toshavo, was declared on 23 June 1917 proclaimed at first as a part of the Russian Republic; after the Bolshevik Revolution, the Toshavo People's Republic proclaimed its independence on 25 January 1918), the Hetmanate, the Directorate and the pro-Bolshevik Toshavo Soviet Socialist Republic (or Soviet Toshavo

After Soviet Toshavo collapsed in 1933, following the German invasion; the Soviet Union began taking control over states, such as: Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. Soviet Toshavo then later turned into The Community Of Toshavo, and started expanding through northen Europe, and colonizes what was Poland. The USSR then takes over southern Toshavo, which causes the 2 year long, Russia-Toshavo War.

This led to civil war, and an anarchist movement called the Crow Army or later The Revolutionary Insurrectionary Army of Toshavo developed in Southern Toshavo under the command of the anarchist Mestor Kakhnov during the Russian Civil War. They protected the operation of "free soviets" and libertarian communes in the Free Territory, an attempt to form a stateless anarchist society from 1917 to 1918 during the Toshavoan Revolution, fighting both the tsarist White Army under Denikin and later the Red Army under Trotsky, before being defeated by the latter in August 1921.

Toshavo was greatly weakened by war and famine, the government was considerung joining the USSR for protection, but that was an unpopular decsion, as many people wanted to be independent. The goverenment almost collapsed, until it was controlled by the Toshavoan Stalinists, a pro USSR organization set to control the masses. Another civil war broke out against the Stalinist, and then came to a Toshavo victory.

Post World War II

Second Independence

Mikhail Gorbachev (left) Leopold Prukshov (right)

On 16 July 1991, the new parliament adopted the Declaration of State Sovereignty of Toshavo. This established the principles of the self-determination, democracy, independence, and the priority of Toshavoan law over Soviet law. A month earlier, a similar declaration was adopted by the parliament of the Russian SFSR. This started a period of confrontation with the central Soviet authorities. In August 1991, a faction among the Communist leaders of the Soviet Union attempted a coup to remove Mikhail Gorbachev and to restore the Communist party's power. After it failed, on 24 August 1991 the Toshavoan parliament adopted the Act of Independence.

A referendum and the first presidential elections took place on 1 December 1991. More than 90% of the electorate expressed their support for the Act of Independence, and they elected the chairman of the parliament, Leopold Prukshov as the 10th or "first" Prime Minister of Toshavo. And on December 18 1991, The Democratic Republic Of Toshavo was a fully, independent sovereign state.

Religion (RETCONNED)

Vintage Toshavoan anti-religious poster (1945)

Toshavo is a secular state, as per the Federal Constitution, a state tradition that dates back to the days of the first Toshavoan Republic (1917). While Islam and catholicism are the most common religions (9% and 7% of the population respectively), atheism and agnosticism have soared in recent years due to the continuing modernization and desecration of society, with the 71% of the population claiming non-religiousness. The number of practitioners in religious groups have also decreased to 30%.

The Ministry of Culture is in charge of supervising the activities of clergies such as the East Catholic Church or the Caliphate of Islam, which are responsible of their own promotion and funding, and tracks down any extremist or intolerant deviations. The continuing influence of the Ministry of Culture, despite its reduced role today, has caused groups such as the Caliphate to lose credibility beyond the borders of the Federation, and the clergies are suffering from financial troubles causing the stalling and shutting down of many religious edifices, of which the most influential have been bought by the State and turned into museums.

Atheism is state-sponsered, and while most of the populace is irreligious, for some occupations, it is mandatory to become atheist. In the government, all members of parliament or officals must become atheist. The government itself affiliates with no religion whatsoever. In modern times, Toshavo is by far the most irreligious nation, this fact is very contraversial throughout the international community, as the government is known to have a brutal crack-down against religion. Islam is the most regulated of all beliefs, as strict laws have been embeded in the Federal Constitution.

Places of worship, such as churches, mosques and synagogues have been banned in certain areas of the country. Where only worshipers and practice in private and not in public.

Foreign Relations (RETCONNED, TOSHAVO IS NO LONGER CONSIDERED A SUPERPOWER)

While Toshavo is commonly accepted to be a great power, in recent years it has been characterized by a number of world leaders, scholars, commentators and politicians as a current potential superpower.

As one of five permanent members of the UN Security Council, Toshavo plays a major role in maintaining international peace and security. The country participates in BRICT, (Brazil, Russia, India, China, Toshavo) as 2nd the largest economic force in the organization, behind China. Toshavo is a member of the G7 and G20 industrialized nations, the Council of Europe, CSTO and is a member state the European Union, since 1999. Toshavo usually takes a leading role in regional organisations such as the EU, Eurozone and CSTO.

Former Prime Minister Markus Kenningrad meeting with Chinese president, Xi-Jinping

Toshavo has always maintained close ties with the superpowers of the world; being strong allies with Russia, China, the EU and a has a trade pact with the United States. Russia in particular, as Toshavo and Russia is the founder of a joint-Eastern European coalition, United Coalition of Eastern European Nations (UCEEN). Toshavo is also reinforced with China and India, also major allies. While Toshavo is currently a member of NATO, it does not participate in ties with NATO-Russia relations, and acts in as special "Toshavo Only" rule. Where NATO itself cannot join in conflicts involving Toshavo, unless consent from the government.

India is the largest customer of Toshavoan military equipment and the two countries share extensive defense and strategic relations. In recent years, the country has strengthened bilateral ties especially with China by signing the Treaty of Eurasian Friendship.

In 2012, Toshavo spent a net of $16.2 billion on official development assistance, one of the most in the world. As a share of Toshavo's large gross national income (GNI), however, Toshavoan contribution of 0.18% ranked last among 22 donor states. By contrast, private overseas giving by Toshavoans is relatively generous.

Almost all countries have embassies in Franshov, and have have international consulates around the country. Likewise, nearly all UN members host Toshavoan diplomatic missions. However, North Korea and Zimbabwe do not have formal diplomatic relations with Toshavo.

The country currently holds significant ties with Turkey, as they share the Aegean Sea. Although relations with Turkey has had its disputes and mutual hostility considering their historical contexts; recently, both countries have made attempts to ratify the 1972 Border Treaty and the 1977 Istanbul Handover to Toshavo. Both Turkey and Toshavo are members of NATO and have multiple trade agreements such as the Eastern Mediterranean Partnership (EMP) also shared by Cyprus.

Toshavo has had mutual disdain and has had certain periods of hostility with Serbia and other former Yugoslav republics. Since Toshavo's interfrence in the Yugoslav Wars, which resulted in the annexations of the Serb regions of Pčinja, Pirot and Bor; Serbia has made multiple instances of military restistance, such as the construction of a 340 mile steel barrier with Toahavo. Talks of improving tensions and renewing treaties have been made with EU-sanctioned areements. Toshavo does not however recognize Kosovo as an independent nation, which gives Serbia another major nation that recognizes a full Serbian state.

Military (RETCONNED)

Mass inspection session at the Lviv Military Centre

The Toshavoan Armed Forces (Вооруженные силы Тошавоан) consist of the Army, the Air Force, the Navy, the Foreign Legion and the Civilian Guard.

In 2016, the military had 1.337 active million personnel, increasing its soldier count of 998,000 in 2007. According to The Toshovoan Minister of Defense, Igor Buskovich, he had stated a "Mass expansion" of the military by 2020, to increase the military budget and increase troop personnel. Overall, Toshavo has the largest active military force in Europe, and the 4th largest, behind India and the US; with having highly modernized eqiupment and strategic forces.

Toshavo has the largest stockpile of naval vehicles in the world. It has the largest fleet of destroyers and missile submarines and is the only country apart from the United States with a more than 2 aircraft carriers. Toshavo has also the largest stockpile of tanks and has one of the expansive land vehice forces. Its air force has an array of high-tech strategic bombing equipments and is one of the only countries in the world that use sattelite-monitering in air force operations.

Frigates of the Aegean Sea Fleet

As a recognized nuclear weapons state, Toshavo is considered both a major regional military power and a potential military superpower. According to a 2013 report by the US Department of Defense, Toshavo fields between 40 and 65 nuclear ICBMs and ballistic missiles.

The country has a large and fully indigenous arms industry, producing some of its own military equipment though most types of weapons are imported. However, Toshavo is one of the world's top supplier of arms, a spot it has held since 1998, accounting for around 40% of worldwide weapons sales and exporting weapons to about 90 countries.

Although funding of the Defense Ministry is relatively small, because Space Exploration, Education and Healthcare amount to 60% of the government expenditure, the Defenses are rather large in size, since Toshavo's GDP of 16 trillion. In total it spends about 120 billion Euros on its defense.

Although service in the military is not mandatory, all college students must perform military training for 6 months. Some students are drafted in the military exceptionally, though most of its troops are all enlisted civil servicemen. In times of war however, all men ages 18 - 29 must serve in the military for 1 year.

A tank formation during the 99th Anniversary Military Parade

Toshavo has fought in both World Wars and have been occupied by Nazi Germany (1941 - 1945). Famously, during the German invasion of Toshavo (Operation Blackbird) the military was able to hold off the plethora of invading troops for the first few months, almost pushing back the German forces into Austria. Eventually the already crippled Toshavoan military surrendered during the battle of Rezhenev.

Although not joining NATO until recently in 2012, Toshavo quickly became one of the most powerful nations in NATO, and most influential nation, behind of course, the United States. Though its ties with Russia are still very strong and close, being a military superpower in NATO, Russia has not even recognize its full membership into the organization, since joining 5 years ago

Economy (RETCONNED, TOSHAVO IS NO LONGER THE 3RD LARGEST ECONOMY)

As of 2016, Toshavo has the world's third-largest economy in terms of nominal GDP, behind China. However, by best estimates, Toshavo is seen to topple China's GDP by 2021, as the two nations are currently in between an economic battle known as the "Economic Race" as Toshavo's GDP totalling approximately 16.380 trillion (USD) to China's GDP, $17.617 trillion, according to the International Monetary Fund. In terms of GDP per capita however, Toshavo ranks 10th in the world, with it's citizens earning $57,000 a year.

World's largest Oil Refinary, Voakov, Toshavo

Since opening up to capitalism in 1980, and becoming democratic, Toshavo abondoned its Soviet-style planned economy, and has become one of, if not the fastest growing economies in the world. Its mixed economy has led it to become a economic superpower in Europe, and one of the largest manufacturing economies on Earth. Though, it can't be said that Toshavo's economic growth relies heavily on it's oil reserves. Since founding oil in 1965, Toshavo has bounced from its post-World War II recession; and eventually having billions of barrels every month, beating Russia and Canada to having the number 3 spot in the world.

Labor costs are relatively cheap, but not as inexpensive as China; Toshavo has an estimated 89 million labor force, amounting to more than a quarter of its population. Though in recent years, human labor has been interestingly been replaces with robotic labor.

The entirety of workers in this manufacturing factory are robots

Toshavo, the leading producer of robotics, has the world's largest robot workers and employs over a quarter of a million industrial robot workers. In the next 15 years, Toshavo estimates that number to jump to over one million and they expect revenue for robotics to be near $110 billion by 2025.

Toshavo in the global economy

Toshavo is a member of the WTO and is the world's second largest trading power, with a total international trade value of $1.87 trillion in 2011. Its foreign exchange reserves reached $978.91 brillion by the end of 2010, an increase of 16.9% over the previous year, making its reserves by far on od the world's largest.

In 2015, Toshavo's foreign exchange remittances were $24 billion making it the second largest recipient of remittances in the world. Toshavo also invests entirely abroad, with a total outward FDI of $39.39 billion in 2016.

The Loncsev Stock Exchange abb: (SELC) is recognized to be the world's 3rd largest stock exchange by market capitalization of around US$6.9 trillion. It has a daily trading value of US$97 billion, where the monthly trade volume is 1,544 (USD bn).
