What the "Lord Protector" plans for the nation

Thurland has entered an uncertain period, the murder of the Lord High Chancellor by NDF thugs, and the King practically under-house arrest in the Thurston Palace, has seen the meteoric rise of a thug to become dictator of our great nation. Never in all my years as a political correspondent have I known such political instability and ask the people of Thurland to read this article to understand what the rule of this would-be tyrant will be like.

What will Thurland be like under this dictator?

Well only days after the 7th June Coup, King William Arthur IV, acting on Sir Joseph's demand and on the basis of the emergency powers, issued the Emergency Powers Proclamation. This decree suspended most citizen rights provided for by the constitution and thus allowed for the arrest of political adversaries, mostly members of the King's Party and SCCP.

This morning Sir Joseph enacted the Lord Protector Act (Establishment of the Office of Lord Protector Act 2022). This law gives Sir Joseph, the Lord Protector —the right to make laws without the involvement of the King or the Government. Throughout Thurland, the NAP will be able to tighten their grip upon the state thanks to the law. For all intents and purposes, our entire constitution has been rendered null and void. The government has already banned the SCCP, King's Party, Noble Alliance, and Ecological Protection Parties. I expect by midsummer, any other minor party will have been intimidated into dissolving themselves rather than face arrests and imprisonment. As we have seen over the past few days all non-NAP ministers of the coalition government had been compelled to resign their posts.

Furthermore, in the past hour our so-called Lord Protector, has ordered the creation and deployment of Territorial Governors (appointed by the NAP) to each shire. These officers, are responsible to the Minister of the Home Office and will act as local proconsuls, with near-complete control over the local governments of the shire.

It has even been leaked that Sir Joseph will introduce the "Law Concerning the Reconstruction of the State" which will do away with our ancient shires, changing them into regions. The borough, wapentake and parish councils will be disbanded, and all local government function given to the Territorial Governors.

Flag

• The NAP will eventually abolish the symbols of Kingdom—including the Red, Green and White flag—and the Royal Coat of Arms. Instead the flag of the National Authority Party, will become the sole national flag. It has even been suggested that the "Lord Protector" will even declare the end to the monarchy to further cement his power, and will introduce a new national anthem.

Office of Lord Protector

• Sir Joseph as "Lord Protector" seeks to rule Thurland autocratically by asserting the "Lord Protector's Principle", which will call for absolute obedience by all subordinates. In laymen terms the government will be structure as a pyramid, with himself—the infallible leader—at the apex.

Armed Forces

• Armed Forces Oath

  The "Lord Protector" has formally asked members of the armed forces who have been previously required to pledge an oath to the King and his lawful successors, declare an oath of allegiance and to obey the Lord Protector even if they were being ordered to do something illegal. The armed forces have until the 13th June to comply.

• NDF becomes legal entity

  Initially a paramilitary unit under the auspices of the NAP, the National Defence Force has grown to become one of the largest and most powerful groups in our nation. Under the direct command of Sir Joseph, the NDF now numbers 120,000 across the nation, with plans to grow and train the unit to become Thurland's Reserve and Elite Armed Forces.

Economy

• Major Public Works

  Major public works projects are planned including the creation of new motorways to replace the nation's system of Kingsway's. These are to be financed with deficit spending included the construction of a network of the new motorways and providing funding for programmes initiated by the previous government for housing and agricultural improvements. To stimulate the construction industry, credit is to be offered to private businesses and subsidies are being made available for home purchases and repairs.

  Plans leaked from within the party suggest that these new motorways will support the rapid deployment of NDF forces throughout Thurland to put down any uprising in a short space of time.

• A New Capital

  To further "improve" the economy, Sir Joseph has called for the creation of a new capital system, to replace Thurston, which he has called a hive of depravity and aristocracy. The new capital will require the creation of a National Capital Territory, which is planned to be created by seizing territory from the shires of Snotsfordshire & Lechestershire. The City when formally announced by the "Lord Protector" will be legally be required to be created by 2032. The Times of Thurland has questioned residents on the streets of Lechester who when told said it was a vanity project. Opponents are now referring the proposed city as Martinia or Joseph's Folly.

  Sir Joseph has a keen personal interest in architecture and will now work closely with renown architects Lord Paul Gorston and Sir Albert Spear to create public buildings in a neoclassical style. Sir Spear has reportedly been requested to plan imposing structures throughout the planned city such as the party rally grounds and a new Lord Protector's Residence building.
