I'm officially applying

I’m officially announcing my candidacy - and my plans will not change or fluctuate a lot. I will post my previous campaign message here to present to you why I should be an MP. Take into consideration that I also run The Democratic Republic of Freedom so I have massive experience in running a region

What do I stand for?
I stand for what this region provides from its name, The Democratic Union. So let's start with the ‘democratic’ bit of things. In a democracy, power is given to the people elect a representative, so as your representative, I should be doing things for you. If there’s anything you want me to do, I’ll do it. And if you want to ask me something, I’ll always reply. My aim is to put the people first, because if everyone is happy, then we get a union.

What will I do?
I will want to make this region stronger to put a long story short. I want to put an embassy policy through parliament, with help with the Foreign Minister, I want to to bring stability to the region and I want to make sure that the region reaches it’s full potential. I also want the region to have an active parliament, and I’m always active on NS, so you can rely on me for activity.

What’s my past experience?
If you may not know, I am Skundi, founder of The Democratic Republic of Freedom. So while this does mean that I am putting some time into running a region I have built from the ground, this will definitely be a priority. I have been playing NS since May 2018, so I know what I’m talking about.

There are the reasons for why is should be an MP

Can we run if we do not support democracy?

The Federation of Terttia

As your Member of Parliament, I swear, if elected, to:

1) listen to your voice,

2) pass laws to protect and enhance the region that you are in,

3) take you seriously, and

4) actively be involved in our region, especially as a Member of Parliament and with other governmental positions.

I suppose

Lake of freedom

I officially declare my candidacy for a seat in parliament. It's going to be great. Make TDU Great Over and Over Again!!!

Lake of freedom

Regions much larger than us laugh at the way we 'run our ant colony'. They laugh at how we have less than 50 nations in our region. They laugh at how we cannot keep our nation stable. They shall laugh no more. As a member of Parliament, I take an oath to prove these blind and stupid regions wrong and take TDU to the top.
Your concerns will be heard, your issues will be solved. Nations, from 100,000 to 10 billion strong in population, will join the TDU for prosperity and security. TDU will reach the heights of democratical prowess.

Together, let's make TDU Great Over and Over Again!!!

Since I'm not running in this election, I think I can ask a few questions to the candidates who has posted their campaigns - Pap sculgief, Terttia, Lake of freedom.

You've all talked about listening to people's concerns, doing what the people want to be done. However, what would you do if the people haven't said they want anything (like it is now)? Would you try to encourage people to speak more and be active, and if so, how? Additionally, are there any laws you currently intend to pass yourself?

I also have some individual questions:
Pap sculgief, what would be your ideal Embassy Policy? Would it be similar to what DRF has now?

Lake of freedom, can you tell me any regions specifically that are "laugh[ing] at us"? How would you make TDU "great" with "prosperity and security"?

(No questions for Terttia because they are already covered by the collective questions above)

East meranopirus, here are the responses to your questions:

1) If the people haven’t said anything that they wanted, I would actively push for the people to brainstorm and ponder on ideas that would they would like to be seen as law or even in fact, look for any loopholes or lacuna in the Constitution or any other law.

2). Yes, I would get people to be more active in the operations of the government by asking citizens to scrutinize the government and asking how the government collectively can do better.

3) I still intend to pass the Regional Security Levels Act, although technically still at vote. As for other bills, I intend to listen to the people.

East meranopirus, in my time as an ambassador to the region New West Indies, I witnessed a certain nation high up in the ranks mock how our region is run and specifically how I was made ambassador. This, of course, angered me but I didn't respond to these insults because they didn't deserve any of my time.

My plan on making TDU great involves a two-step process

1) We need to mandate that every citizen has served in the Executive staff for at least one month. Citizens who are unable to do so due to a understandable reason are excused. This is so that TDU is outreaching and through the filling up of roles like Ambassador we can attract attention to our region.

2) We need to liven up our region, and personally I will be more active in the TDU community and try to engage fellow citizens with more polls and contests.

I can go more into detail about my policies once I have been informed about our citizens' concerns, and I will be personally sending a telegram to each citizen and asking them if there is any way to improve TDU

So for the first part, I would definitely encourage speaking out no matter what as I believe that the more people you have speaking their voice, the more a democratic a region is, so even if no one said what they wanted, I would still be encouraging speaking out.

To answer the second part, I would think about taking inspiration from the DRF’s embassy policy, but what it depends on is who the citizens want to align with. If we want to align with smaller regions, then well add that into an embassy policy. But if we want to align with larger regions, then we’ll add that to the policy. In the DRF, we have an amended policy, due to the fact the people wanted something different

Thank you for your quick responses, everyone :)

Terttia, your answers have reminded me of a discussion you wanted to have in the past about whether the region should be isolationist? Do you still think that discussion is one worth having now?

Lake of freedom, in reference to your first answer, do you think that might be exclusionary towards some people, and perhaps somewhat unfair that they have to first work for the people that they didn't elect? Could it be possible that we will have even less citizens, making our democracy stagnant?

To all the candidates,
1) Are there anything you want to see in the region, or that you would try to do in the region if you are elected?
2) If citizens are not active in suggesting ideas or scrutinizing the government, are there anything you can suggest to boost activity (both in general and in terms of government) in the region?

1) Propose regional initiatives to encourage nations to be more active.

2) To encourage nations to suggest ideas I propose to send telegrams weekly to the nations.

I encourage you to post a platform, a summary of what you would do, and try to be as specific as possible.

East meranopirus

By the way, if you want to see the region's number grow, here's a way to do it right now!
Follow the instructions in this dispatch to send out recruitment telegrams fast.

1) I’ve seen many regions fall due to inactivity and I don’t want that to happen to TDU. I want to encourage activity and do that through events and activities.
2) If there’s no one scrutinising the government then they might not know what’s actually going on. I will keep the region updated on government goings on, so people know what to scrutinise and what’s going on

1) Yes, I think that the discussion of isolationism is worth having because the government can have a collective perspective of the people’s views and especially now since the region is small.

2) I want the region’s numbers to grow, and I want to create a way that the people can be more involved with the government.

3) General: Hosting games and other fun activities.
Government: Desire for the creation of a Ministry of Public Affairs, in which citizens can contact government officials publicly.

Pap sculgief

Another thing I was thinking of, was the creation of a regional olympics - in a sort of roleplay. It would involve scorinators, but it would have someone neutral running the results. Vote for me if you support this!

Electoral program

Electoral program

Here is my electoral program:

1) The inactivity of nations in a region is the first cause that leads to the disintegration of the region itself.
In view of the elections, my proposal is to create recreational activities that encourage nations to participate in regional life.

2) In addition to recreational activities, I propose to create cultural activities which however did not find life.

3) The first "regional TV" would be born with me.
In fact, my idea is to have a region created by New Sofstakand where (through an embassy) we could chat and where interviews can be conducted with the most prominent politicians, hold debates among the candidates in the elections and so on.

4) I also propose to create a ministry of the people that manages: all the people's criticisms of the government, the people's proposals to the government, etc.

Obviously I wish all the other candidates to be elected and to collaborate with them to strengthen the region
