Following the comments made, here is my proposal for a statement of principles:

~

The Libertarian Socialist Confederation operates on three shared principles we see as inseparable from libertarian socialism:

FREEDOM refers to the positive capacity of all individuals and communities for self-determination. We believe that freedom and equality are inseparable, forming the basis for individual development and social wellbeing in the absence of coercive authority or class division. Freedom is an inherent good that can only be strengthened through solidarity and democracy.

SOLIDARITY refers to the belief that all oppressed and exploited people share a common struggle towards freedom. As a principle of social life, we understand that people are interdependent and therefore cooperation is of mutual benefit; we aim to support one another in our efforts to effect the changes we each desire. We stand against marginalisation, prejudice, and all other injustices, for an injury to one is an injury to all.

DEMOCRACY refers to direct, participatory decision-making free from hierarchy, domination, and coercion. Democracy is a social relation between free individuals that should not be reduced solely to institutions or elections. We believe that democracy is always a “work in progress” to be altered or improved by communities according to their needs.

SUSTAINABILITY refers to the recognition that humanity shares a common future with all other living beings and the natural environment we inhabit. The domination and exploitation of nature by humankind must be superseded by an unconstrained harmony that values the beauty and diversity of the natural world, through the decentralisation and integration of communities into their local ecology.

This is excellent.

Just change "three shared principles" to "four".

Gorasnaya republic

The Gorasnaya Republic banned gambling in its own country for the following reason, and it is hoped that these insights help provide a rationale for the ban on gambling that is not based on spurious forms of sin-related morality, but on the basis of combating exploitation:

Gambling is a waste of worker productivity that could instead be focused on natural resources, infrastructure, or social services. Large-scale institutions explicitly designed to scam people out of their money are a burden on society. A ruble wasted on the roll of the dice or a spin of the roulette wheel is a ruble not spent on agriculture, urban development, healthcare, welfare, education, public transport, or any number of other things more eminently useful to society.

In our libertarian socialist society here in Stewed decisions, I feel like it would be allowed, but it doesn't necessarily jive with ownership of a product that...

...and there it is. I get it now. No gambling allowed when we get the chance.

In my rl country (Spain) gambling is becoming an important issue in working class neighbourhoods. The absence of alternative leisure and precariousness due to the 2008 economic crisis has thrown many people into gambling, and in many cases, young people. Since the economic crisis gambling halls are appearing everywhere in the neighbourhoods and gambling has been on the rise, ruining some families and addicting other individuals. There is a strong opposition among leftist movements because of this.

LSC Charter Review

On to the next section of the Charter: the Regional Council.

Apologies, I meant to continue this much sooner but have been very busy.

You can view previous discussion on this matter in these posts, and check the Charter review document.

Following from previous discussion, I put forward the following rewrite of Part 1 Section 2, which will also replace Part 4.

*****

2. A Regional Council comprised of 4-12 Regional Officers.

a. The council is subdivided into 4 committees each with 3 places. Members of the council may only be on one committee at a time:
i. Internal Affairs - manages the appearance of the region; promotes regional culture and organises activities. [Appearance, Communications, Polls]
ii. Foreign Affairs - manages diplomacy on the world stage; opening and closing embassies; ambassador to embassy regions. [Embassies, Communications, Polls]
iii. Outreach - manages recruitment; welcomes and supports new members and encourages participation. [Communications, Polls]
iv. Safeguard - manages regional defence; moderates regional communications according to the rules established in Part 5 of this document. [Border Control, Communications, Polls]

b. Upon election, committees are granted a mandate to act on their own initiative and in the best interests of the region.
i. While not requiring a vote on every matter, committees are encouraged to seek input and approval from the region where appropriate, utilising the RMB, discord, and polls.
ii. Each committee must publish a public report, detailing their activities, half way through their term, and at the end of their term.
iii. If any member of the region disagrees with an action or decision taken by a committee, they can call for a repeal vote at any time. A repeal vote will run for 48 hours and passes with a simple majority. If the repeal passes, the committee must reverse the act in question. Any other regional officer, or the founder, may apply the repeal if there is any delay or defiance from the committee in question.
iv. An officer can be recalled at any time as described in Part 3 of this document.

c. Each committee can take an unlimited number of non-officer volunteers to help come up with ideas. There should be no barrier to entry for such teams.

d. The Founder and the WA delegate may not also be members of this council.

*****

Please put forward any comments, suggestions, criticisms, and alternatives.

What exactly is the role of the Internal Affairs committee? What does the "appearance" of the region entail, and what types of activities are held?

Kassimo

Ecosociala wrote:What exactly is the role of the Internal Affairs committee? What does the "appearance" of the region entail, and what types of activities are held?

The Internal Affairs committee, as I propose it, would take the initiative in spurring activity in the region by coming up with new ideas, then taking responsibility for organising and promoting these projects. Activities could mean anything from a formal debate, to a music night or a roleplay. Culture refers to things like the regional map, or promoting the factbooks and other creations of region members. A common thing in many regions is to hold competitions for photography, writing, and graphic design among other things.

Appearance refers to how the region is presented. Here I should clarify what the terms in square brackets refer to. If you go to the Region Control page, you will see that regional officers can be granted specific 'authorities': Executive, Appearance, Border Control, Communications, Embassies, Polls, and World Assembly. The 'Appearance' authority grants the officer the ability to modify the World Factbook Entry, Flag, and Tags, and pin Dispatches to the region. The regional flag and tags are not something that changes unless there is demand for it, but the Internal Affairs committee would have the responsibility of designing and updating the World Factbook Entry, which at the moment is rather lacklustre.

Apologies for the delayed reply.

Quoting an old post of mine: For some reason, in this game, having a socialist economy severely limits economic strength when your nation is small, but as your nation grows so you can improve your economic strength, mostly through subsidization. I think subsidizing public services and environmentally friendly production is the best path available to socialists. In this game you are limited to a choice between government control of the economy (state socialism) or private/corporate control of the economy (free market capitalism), so you can only minimize/destroy the state by going full on ancap. However, there are issues to decentralize the government, and issues that allow you to move from central planning to worker's control of production, although this is not reflected in the government size statistic or in the policies, unfortunately.

I took a fairly long time to build up my economy, but Gargareum, for example, managed to build theirs up rapidly: nation=gargareum/detail=trend

Anarcho-syndicalism necessitates the abolition of the economy. I wouldn't take the economy being bad very personally. If it's nonexistent, then its condition can't be honestly described as "good"

oh, they can have that without the context of an economy rating tbh. ive had previous nations that have had "basket case" economies where the people have, in the same automated description, had everything they wanted and been happily engaging in opening lemonade stands lol. If you want to RP as a nation with a "good economy" youll have to first and foremost RP as a nation with an economy in general. If you want to RP as a nation without one, then just stick with it and the gaps will more or less fill in

I think it is a good option. However, I suppose Internal Affairs would en up with many things to do in a fairly active region, but we may change the number of committees when It is needed. For now I think we have enough with those four.
