The reset might be good in some cases but definitely not in my latest one. Now I have to repeat previous decisions to get back to the comfy index environment (and do lots of work to fight black market which took me half a year to do so the last time). Everyone runs their nations the way they please, so I’m just disagreeing, not arguing

Ruinenlust wrote:Issue 490 is one that I also have mixed feelings about, but I keep choosing option 1, which sort of acts as a "reset" or a corrective for how I tend to otherwise answer issues. Granted many things are affected only slightly or not at all, but other things show very clearly each instance of getting Issue 490, and the fact that each time, I answer with option 1 and then dismiss the follow-up issue:

Disposable Income: nation=ruinenlust/detail=trend?censusid=85

Government Size: nation=ruinenlust/detail=trend?censusid=27

Edumacation: nation=ruinenlust/detail=trend?censusid=75

Taxation: nation=ruinenlust/detail=trend?censusid=49

I wish that it were more nuanced, where you could pick certain sectors to gut and others to retain. I'd love to keep the Education and Health Care, as well as the environmental programs, but let the other things fall down a bit.

And as always, the bane of my existence: Civil Rights, which is always on the verge of collapse despite my constant, frustrated efforts to raise it: nation=ruinenlust/detail=trend?censusid=0

----

Edit:

Exactly my feeling! Hear, hear! :-)

That's hilarious. I've never seen an issue that powerful. Almost all your stats share that cycle too. I've never seen a nation so completely defined by one thing, and I too consider myself very edumacated.

Blasphemous.

I agree. It's not very good unless you consider to be important the taxation and disposable income stats not making sense. Which they never seem to do.

I should have not randomly picked those issue options before otherwise i would not have these weird policies 😬 (aka literal half of all my policies lmao)

Honestly when i discovered about NSindex and NS issue results it saved me from enacting weird things

I find it hilarious when one does not expect the real outcome of the issues. This gives somewhat-simulator-ish feeling of the nation development for its leader. I mean, you intend to do something good but it turns all the opposite way around. Fun to swim between these icebergs of national matters and deal with what eventually happens. So, personally I never check the outcomes out on those sites.

But I do understand if you want to create a perfect nation state with certain policies and trophies then such sources are extremely helpful.

Somehow my nation has a perfect economy despite being one of the top 100 most primitive, and top 1,000 stupidest and most environmentally beautiful nations.

Nation of ecologists wrote:Thanks! I was always intrigued by Silva's political legacy, so it was interesting to see where she is today! (not in a very good place mind you). However, how did she go from 19 million votes in 2014 to just 1 million in 2018? What did she do in those 4 years to slash her popularity?

She actually finished the elections with 22 million votes, and almost got a whole lot more. To explain how that happened, I'd have to explain the presidential ellections of 2014. The "context" part of the brazillian wikipedia entry about this has +2500 words. So keep in mind this explanation is gonna be severely incomplete.

Basically, she wasn't originally running for president, but rather vice-president. The actual candidate was Eduardo Campos, a very popular politician from Recife, father of the current mayor. Eduardo Campos was popular in the northeast, Marina was popular in the north, neither was popular anywhere else. Then Eduardo Campos died in a plane crash (one of my then best friend's uncles died on that crash too, as well as my school's principal. It was a terrible day).

The combination of her being a known anti-worker's party figure (Anti-PT sentiment was starting to get really prevalent then), the grief from Campos' death, the desire for an alternative to the PT-PSDB quasi two-party system and hesitation from the right to vote for Aécio Neves (PSDB), a known corrupt politician and cocaine junkie, combined with a growing anti-Dilma Roussef (PT) sentiment fueled by her repression of the protests in 2013 and, I kid you not, Brazil's humiliating defeat during the 2014 fifa world cup, catapulted her to the top.

As a response, PT's electoral campaign focused more on attacking Marina Silva than anything else, painting her as a bourgeois, theocratic candidate put there by big banks and the military. After losing the elections she went back to her little political corner as always, coming back in 2018 to promptly roast Bolsonaro and then disappearing again.

Nation of ecologists wrote:The Brazilian Green Party morphed into the Green Party, and Sustainability Network morphed into the Green-Liberal Party. They still operate in regular Brazil, (which has devolved into a dictatorship under Bolsonaro, similar to the Vargas Regime. Sorry, but the universe couldn't be all that good!) but are under strict watch from the electoral commission. PSOL's operations entirely moved to NoE fleeing persecution from Brazil, and changed their name to the Green-Socialist Party, which is currently in government. There's some lore that I literally just came up with!

That sounds pretty believable, yeah. Though I doubt PSOL would ever leave Brazil entirely, considering how grassroots and decentralized the party is. Maybe PSOL leaves, and then the structures previously used by PSOL in their strongholds like Rio become a different party.

Uan aa Boa wrote:In other news, on the southside of Glasgow officials from the UK Home Office arrived to forcibly remove 2 illegal immigrants. The entire neighbourhood and more came out into the street and prevented the van they were put into from leaving. After a long standoff the police (who do not assist the Home Office in removals) ordered that the immigrants be released because of public safety concerns and the Covid risk of having such a large crowd. Commentary is starkly divided. Mob rule or democracy in action?

I might be starting to support mob rule if that's what we're calling it.

Thanks for answering all my questions! I don't exactly know why, but I find Brazilian politics just so fascinating and interesting. And, if your telling me correctly, if Campos hadn't died, then the chain of events that led to Bolsonaro getting elected may not have happened, or he might've even won? I'm jumping to conclusions, but he might have at least had a chance of making it to the second round.

The economy stat seems pretty weird. It doesn't seem linked with your actual economy, so maybe it's about efficiency. And it doesn't seem meant to go over 100, just like the civil rights and political freedom stats that have no competition whatsoever. But it does and you can get ranked based on a couple of decimal figures.

They shouldn’t abolish it. Those criminals were in there for a reason, y’know.

Also, this is Esthe. I decided to start over on a clean slate.

Finally! Genua was so annoying, and they treated everyone who wasn't a member of the region as some lower-being. I'm so happy that they're gone. Same for the other N*zi regions. Today is a good day in the fight against fascism.
