As terrible as the distancing and economic slowdown of late has been, it is undeniable that it has led to a drastic decrease in air pollution across most of the world. Look at https://aqicn.org/map/world/ to compare the current levels in your area to levels in the past. As April 23ís Earth Day approaches, Forest will be reflecting upon how recent measures have decreased our footprints and what we can continue to do to minimize them as social and economic norms return. I have drastically cut back on my already low use of automotive transportation. (It is incredible how many things can be done remotely!) Also, Earth Day is a wonderful time to appreciate nature (even if it is just from your yard), enjoy the clean air and lower levels of light pollution! (Here is a guide to some upcoming night sky events: https://www.thrillist.com/news/nation/stargazing-events-astronomy-guide-night-sky-map-april-2020 ) However, please be sure to maintain distancing while you do this!

Here is a little Earth Day poetry to wrap this up with:

A bird came down the walk:
He did not know I saw;
He bit an angle-worm in halves
And ate the fellow, raw.
And then he drank a dew
From a convenient grass,
And then hopped sidewise to the wall
To let a beetle pass.
He glanced with rapid eyes
That hurried all abroad, ó
They looked like frightened beads, I thought;
He stirred his velvet head
Like one in danger; cautious,
I offered him a crumb,
And he unrolled his feathers
And rowed him softer home
Than oars divide the ocean,
Too silver for a seam,
Or butterflies, off banks of noon,
Leap, splashless, as they swim.

ó Emily Dickinson, A Bird Came Down the Walk

just so you know, there's no real reason to post this here at this point

There are still several nations here and Forest's FA branch let the NWI's embassy request expire, so I am going down with the ship unless the election finally happens (our founder has been disappearing for significant stretches of time) and things change. It looks like the current FK will be reelected, so I will need to tilt into the FA branch harder once our government gets legitimately running again. Trust me, I want to go where Conifer goes!

...you do have a point, even if a lot of the active nations have headed out already
and y'know, i was wondering about the prospect of an nwi-forest embassy, so thanks for letting me know about that! quite unfortunate, innit

We'll try again once your government is ready again.

It sure is! I should probably move another one of my puppets over there and maintain an unofficial diplomatic mission!

yeah, you should
this is definitely an impartial opinion, i'm saying this purely because it would be useful for further diplomacy and not because it's a cool region and the best conifer since conifer

We have merged with the New West Indies, so you might want to consider moving there :)

Our government is back, so it's that time again. This time, y'all get to be preachy instead of me!

I encourage everybody to analyze the environmental impact of the complete life cycle (end-to-end) of any product that you use.

Life cycle analysis is the tool by which a productís impact on the environment through its lifetime is evaluated. In the context of recycling, it helps to determine if waste reduction, recycle, resource recovery or disposal is the best practicable environmental option. It has been extensively applied in solid waste management (McDougall et al., 2001). The analysis quantifies the energy and raw materials used and solid, liquid and gaseous waste produced at each stage of the process...It can be [e]specially useful in comparing the environmental impact of a product made by recycling and the same made from virgin materials.

(More here: https://www.sciencedirect.com/topics/earth-and-planetary-sciences/life-cycle-analysis)

I suggest beginning with a visual diagram to guide your research. If you wish to include ethical and/or health analysis in this exercise, that would be wonderful! If you do not wish to write anything, please consider running through this mentally!

I will be writing up my analysis before July. If you write anything, please consider TGing it to me (Turbeaux) because I am hoping to assemble a compilation of these.

Thank you and please stay safe!
