Because in the past there have been parliaments under an absolute monarchy, see England from the 14th century until Cromwell. And back in Anglo Saxon times it was elective under the Witan but once the King was elected he was absolute.

They basically have two knockoff CDUs (one closer to a Laschet faction and the other closer to a Merz faction) and I think those two parties have 22/25 seats don't quote me on that? They have a green party too who picks up the other seats, I think.

False, it was buried in 1960 at Sidney Sussex College, which was Cromwell's Alma Mater. So yes, about 300 years, but not present tense.
