Like I said, most vegetarian alternatives to meat like tofu are pretty cheap, actually cheaper than meat.

Personally, as an Asian, I advise you not to eat tofu the way you think you should. It's only good when it's prepared right. Only buy silk tofu because the others are trash. Fried tofu requires harder variants, but the good thing about tofu is you can just directly eat it. Personally, I eat tofu wish some soy sauce, a sprinkle of salt, and some other stuff. I do relate to you, as I have tried to revert to veganism once in 6th grade when it was all the rage, but I just couldn't stomach a few days without f l e s h. Anyways, good luck on your streak.
